  • men its really hard to tell because they are both exceptional and also my dads from korea and my moms from japan

  • The Hanbok may be wide but for exactly that reason allows for much more freedom of movement compared to the Kimono, which restricts walking somewhat. It seems like Kimono was made for appearing attractive whereas the Hanbok also took everyday functionality into account. Either that or Japanese women had extremely sedentary lifestyles.

    Just my opinion.

  • i love hanbok better than kimono

  • Man... do you know how hard to wear Kimono?! and stuffy. It is complex and pretty while Hanbok is smuch simpler to wear and modest pretty/

  • I think both are positively lovely! :D

  • @NancyDrewSAWE The Court Hanbok has the long sleeves like a kimono.

  • was hondok this style before??? its getting gorgeous.

  • no offense but i agree with @bikyotruelove, hanbok in this video looks weird.. no better than ones that I've seen in other places :p

  • I'm Korean. I think every traditional clothes are beautiful.

Kimono has beautiful pattern on fabric, Hanbok has beautiful outside shape.

  • Kimono and Hanbok are both beautiful : )

As a Korean, i like hanbok. But kimono is also beautiful clothes.

  • I like the long hanging arms on the Kimono and I like the wide puffy look on the Hanbok, it's like a pretty pretty princess, I would love to combine these two fashions together, that would look sooooo beautiful.

  • why do korean expose their boobs in this photo?

    traditional hanbok exposes their boobs

  • @xXAwesomeness88Xx i don't understand you. hanbok and kimono are both beautiful, but in different ways. you wrote 'no offense' and then go telling your opinion OFFENSING hanbok.

and how can you think that the ppl who say hanbok looks better are K-pop fans??

besides, is there sth wrong with being a K-pop fan??

why compare and offense?? watching videos like this, we need to learn to respect other cultures.

    oh??and you disable your ID??^_^very well done!!^_^

  • im japanese!!

    but i like both!

if i have a korean gilr friend,i want her to wear hanbok!!

  • Hanbok looks lightweight to me.

  • The principle style of Kimono is not practical for normal daily life. That style is basically for Geisha for example the long sleeves and front wide bend. The Fablic colors and designs shown here are not available in old days.

The kimonos shown here are overly exagerated without integrity just to show up.

We should compare the two in view of styles and their functions not just their brilliant fabric colors and designs. Overall Korean hanbok is absolutely better.

  • Why are we compareing them they are both very beautiful and from different cultures

  • wat about the hanfu

  • @chocoholic031

    Hanfu sucks

  • @xXAwesomeness88Xx ignorant brat

  • Comment removed

  • you know, they're different tu[es of clothing from different cultures so why compare? I'm korean so I know how it feels to wear a hanbok but I've never worn a kimono so I would like to wear one someday... I heard it's really complicated to put on though... -,-

  • Both are really beautiful but really different! Personally I like better how women looks in a kimono, but maybe it's because I'm more familiar with it.

  • I like both!:)

I'm korean, i love japan also. Enough racism people. Japan and korea should be friends, bothcountries are pretty.

  • sorry, random question, but what is the name of the song used

  • kimono is popular with the roses on

  • kimono of course it's more beautiful and famous hundreds years ago, i didn't know the korean ones until i saw this vid sorry but this is true!

  • Japan is only the hairstyle women who don't agree with the kimono. That make gracefulness of the kimono spoiled.

  • The Hanbok is a Kimono lookalike, but has that overall humpty dumpty feel that makes it look really uncomfortable. It is simply a heavier looking Kimono without the poise and elegance.

  • @gyaradosgengar Hanbok is actually very light because it's generally made from fine ramie (for summer) or silk (for winter). Besides, it's more airy and less restraining than a kimono, which is made to wrap around the body and makes you have to walk with small steps (that's mostly the case with women's kimono though). Probably you'll need to see a hanbok in movement to appreciate it's true beauty; its really beautiful to see the skirt swirls and oscillate when the wearer is walking or turning.

  • kimono is the same as southern chinese cloth.

  • How the hell do you walk in those japanese flip flops :O

    they look so stuffy

  • I am Korean and I love Hanbok, Kimono, and Hanfu. But in this video imo, I believe Hanbok are better. I have seen lot of Kimono and they are beautiful, but this ones in video hurts my eyes. I am not saying they are bad or anything. Just this selection of Kimonos are bad for my eyes :p

  • im korean and i like kimino its very pretty and i like the designs.

  • Btw kimono is not "modern" ....

    It's traditional... those designs

were the same since centries ago

  • Comment removed

  • is it just me or most kimonos are modernized and hanboks are more traditional? just something interesting realized about the designs.

  • kimono can very high speed undress

    ultimate speed like short skirt

"we(japs) want to s@x. any time, any place, any girl~ cause we made it"

    it is kimono.

  • I like hanbok more han kimono, but both are very beautiful

  • secret1 = kimono is not same as yukata. yukata means bath wear. kimono is never compatable wear. she cannot wear it by herself. It needs hands of someone else to wear kimono. she cannot sit only on knee of herself. beatiful! but uncompatable.

  • I love the Kimono! The design and all the art put into it is stunning. Plus the fitting on the body is very nice. I honestly don't like the hanbok at all. To me it just seems that the whole thing is swallowing up the body and then makes them look fat or better word is wide then what they really are. I just dont like the shape of it or the colors used, no offense to people that like the hanbok. I would rather wear a kimono though =)

  • @anime0pop swallowing up the body is not only on hanbok. kimono and hanbok doesn't show the real body line as same. Shape of wearing is only difference of them. How about finding out the way of wearing two clothes.

  • @anime0pop Color-wise I think kimonos are more modernized while hanboks are kept more traditional. Also I don't know why but I think women are more attractive in bigger clothings. Perhaps it's just like when my girl wears my sweater. Maybe it's a tease about her body line? lol idk.

  • @YuneShik lol! maybe. But even though some people might like or dislike one of the dresses, i love how their cultures stick to their traditions and how everyone has at least one to wear and wear them on holidays. I think thats really cool.

  • @anime0pop Do you know the Kimono was made for sex? Exactly, for well-sex? And Hanbok is more easy to wear, and it's not tight like the Kimono. So you can wear Hanbok regardless of your figure.

  • @anime0pop u suck balls because your name is anime obviously you're going to love kimono

  • @MeSezSo Thats very classy of you, and no my user name has nothing to do with liking a dress... Pretty simple minded you are, but im not bias like that. Cartoons and dresses are different. I like Kpop so if i liked the Hanbok better would that be why too?

  • @anime0pop You're just going through a "japan phase".. xPP

  • @michaelhongng Not really =) I just like the Kimono shape better, i don't understand why it has to be only because of a bias... The hanbok is just to big of a shape for me thats why i don't like it, it doesn't matter if its korean or japanese. =)

  • @anime0pop really? that is what i used to think but there are some hanbok that are incredibly beautiful. there are also diff kinds because it depends on the era that you are talking about. there are many diff types of hanbok

  • @jualkyn I guess its mostly the shape i don't like. I understand its supposed to hide the body, but i don't really like that style. The designs are pretty, like at 3:32 i like how there are some flowers on top and i like the ones at 5:00. But when some just have those thick stripes on the sleeve. To me i always thought the kimono was very complex and busy yet beautiful at the same time. Oh well different opinions lol ^^ If i ever had a chance i'd want to wear both anyways =)

  • @anime0pop the reason for the cut of the hanbok is that it was made for functional use. kimonos were for Japanese women who were not allowed to do anything due to the sexist nature of Edo bakufu but sit around and look demure for the little Japanese men

Generally kimonos are more ornate than hanbok for of this reason. Koreans had other ceremonial or fancy dress

Also Tokugawa Japan was rich. Joseon Dynasty was a very poor agrarian nation

LOL @ lurking, posting comments every month

  • @anime0pop D: My pride has been injured lol

  • haha soo happy, one of the only threads that doesn't have any racist comments, :)

  • I like the Hanbok more, because it is more simple and stunning

  • Both of them are beautiful! Wow! BOTH.

  • 4:56 =KARA

  • i like the kimono more. maybe cause for newyears my gf wore a really nice one. :)

  • Both the kimono and hanbok were most likely based on Hanfu, and Hanfu still beats them both easily.

  • the Kimono is all about beautiful designs and the Hanbok is about clean elegance.

    love the hanbok more though~

  • They're both very beautiful~ Japanese Kimono or Korean Hanbok~ They portray beauty in their own charm and uniqueness. I'm Korean but I have to admit, Japanese cultures are just as wonderful as Korean Culture! Ohhhh not to mention how gorgeous Hanfu is :) I want to wear them someday~

  • man. if only asia didn't westernize their clothing...

  • Furisode is cute, but I guess hanbock is more comfortable :)

  • I'm a half Korean, so I'm going for Korean Hanbok :)

  • lol so many gisaeng dresses :3 (the one with the white stripe seperating top and bottom) but not always ;3

  • ohh i want a hanbok with a pale cucumber green jeogori and a soft melon pink chima with a yellow otgoreum. just like in my dream~~

  • @muneeycy hanbok is not ugly, in my opinion. it is beautiful and unique in its own exotic way.

  • @muneeycy Do you know how to talk with the respect? VERY UNEDUCATED!

  • @muneeycy YEAH WELL WHAT EVER YOUR TRADITIONAL CLOTHES ARE THE MOST POOPIEST SUCKIEST AND UGLIEST CLOTHES EVER!!!!!!!

  • I've always thought that Kimono was much sexier than Hanbok ever since my first erection. :) Hanbok to me when I was little seemed uncomfortable than Kimono but then I'm not a woman so my opinion doesn't count for much.

  • Comment removed

  • @dokkiro

    From my experience--

Kimono takes MUCH more time to wear then hanbok, and it's really tight when you wear them.

  • @SamuraiTogo

Kimono DID NOT exist BEFORE hanfu.

Hanfu existed from the Han dynasty(about BC200) until the ming, and no form of a country existed in the japanese island then.

    It was like this

    Hanfu →Korea→ Japan

and if you see clothes in the Korea Dynasty(Before Chosun) or Shilla dynasty it shows a great resemblence to hanfu,

and it passed onto japan and developed very uniquely to a Kimono there.

Meanwhile in Korea those clothes also developed very uniquely to Hanbok during the Chosun period.

  • @SamuraiTogo yamete!! cant you use tatemae?! no one needs such rude comments.

  • I love both but my fiance is Japanese so guess I am biast:D

  • The hanbok was created to hide a woman's shape, because it was considered improper for her physical beauty to be seen by anyone other than her husband. Also, the reason why it is not as fitted to the body as the kimono is because it was designed so the woman could easily move around and kneel/stand back up for cleaning and such without the garment tearing.

  • @zerofourtwozero may be Neo-Confucianism effect on Korean hanbok. But their male attires seems to reveal more body shape than Japanese. I think, Korean hanbok seems more comfortable than Japanese kimono. Don't forget Koreans have been influenced by Mongolian culture more than others.

  • @zerofourtwozero thats similar to kimono. when a woman wears kimono her shape must become cylinder to hide her curves. though it is close fitting to her body, it also covers her shapely figure with much padding. but i would love to wear hanbok since i am too curvy for kimono

  • i love the kimono!! and yukata's in the summer time

  • Paused at 4:34...the way these two Korean actresses wear it for the movies are so nice....I like it when my Korean girlfriend wears one of these Hanbok costumes for when she does her dances....

  • i think that japanese kimono is dificult to wear it .many pieces.... lol

so hanbok is good if u r in hurry xd

  • I like kimono better for some reason even though i'm korean it just looks good in terms of design, and it looks more.... elegant....doesn't really get caught by the dress but hanbok one the dress is long and stretched outward so ... kimono :XD

  • Hanbok <3 Kimono's are beautiful but Hanbok looks sooo gorgeus to me... <3

  • @UK339

lol i agree. i wasnt that obssesed with hanboks until the drama hwang jin yi came out..and i saw gisaeng hanboks lol..they are sooo pretty

  • what is the 2 songs' name?

  • I also love the Chinese hanfu too.. Gorgeous! Quite honestly both Kimono and Hanbok comes from ancient chinese clothes... It was just modified for practical purposes depending on their lifestyle and climate.

  • @consoleman09 I am afraid bikyotruelove is correct - the Japanese kimono has it's origins in Chinese clothing - probably the hanfu. Japanese culture was heavily influenced by China for many centuries, and until the creation of hiragana and katagana, Japanese was written using CHINESE characters. The official language of the Imperial Court of Japan for centuries was CHINESE. Japanese culture is rooted in Chinese culture.

  • @Haldir1970 samething with korean culture, was influenced by chinese also,, not only japan but korea also, by the way i'm korean

  • @bikyotruelove The hanbok actually had no origins from china at all though the hanfu was a superficial trend for koreans during some dynasty. If any influences at all, it would be those from the mongol, not china. sorry. you could actually see that the basic structures of the two garments are totally different.hanbok(skirt and jacket) / Hanfu (Overcoat and wrap) The hanfu is lovely btw. I appreciate the beauty of all the wonderful asian traditional dresses :)

  • i love both. You are ignorant and stupid if you think either one is ugly. That means you just saw an ugly style.. There are ugly color combo prints/style for both Kimono and Hanbok and beautiful prints/ color combo for both too. You just have to come across the right ones. That goes for any western dress too.

  • @bikyotruelove I agree!!! omg, every country has their own unique style. We should just appreciate the beauty of the differences or shut up.

  • @bikyotruelove i agree no offense to the video maker but the hanbok here are not as good as many others i've seen

  • Korean Hanbok look much sophisticated and various. Japan kimonolook very simple, and just look like Chinese cloths.

  • Korean Hanbok is not cool.

★It looks like a maternity dress.

  • And Kimono looks like a condom on a human body. At least the hanbok is elegant. Kimono is just a copy of Chinese Hanfu.

  • i say hanbok:]

    kimonos are okay

  • I think the Kimono looks very classy,

    I want to wear one.

  • hanbok is for long legs XD

  • gezzz i like both of them along with the maria clara dress worned by the filipino women in the philippines! and also the hanfu of china!

  • I wanna try the korean dress, it looks really confortable =O

  • It is comfortable if you know how to wear it right, but since I was a kid and never had to work in them, my opinion's probably biased, but sitting, lying, and playing in them are such a breeze.

  • I have one but it's so uncomfortable. I wanna try and get a yutaka. I bought some Indian clothes. They're quite comfortable.

  • han bok all the way! <3

  • I could not come to a conclusion on what is better in stead of it being kimono vs hanbok.I think it we should appreciate both for what it is.Both countrys clothing look great. The colors and patterns where very well put together.I notice the difference in the two as well and I think it might be dued to the climate.Great representation!!!!

  • In term of design (as in how the dress is cut and tied), kimono is better than hanbok.

But in term of fabric, hanbok is better than kimono because it's more flowing.

  • I have to say that both the hanbok and kimono look stunning. The kimono has very beautiful designs with flowers. The hanbok is simple, clean, and elegant.

  • @hulia27 yea i agree with you on that. kimono is stunning and detailed, yet so hard to prepare and put on and can be so hot inside. hanbok has that chic & beautiful yet simple look, and im sure it must be more comfortable. i really want hanbok since i already have kimono. honestly i love both

  • I love hanbok. where can I buy one for my chihuahua.

  • You're a bad guy. I wish you climb up the mountain and die.

  • OMG so purdy...I hate bad guys.

  • From 0:21 to 0:25 is the weirdest Obi obw Ive ever seen.

  • Japanese kimono is a copr of the hanfu except it's tighter and big bow in the back

  • really? then where is that hanfoo? Chinese don't even wear that now days.

  • GO KOREA!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i vote korean hanbok. its just not realy not a known country. plys, its so beautiful to hey initialdluvr, your lucky to be korean man,. i love korea!!! GO KOREAN!!!!!

  • I'm Korean and I got to admit. Asian clothing back then was really nice.

  • @initialdluvr back then? People still wear these! OBviously not in america.

  • Japanese kimono's/ ukatas are sooo kawaii T_T im moving to japan soon and I cant wait to go to a festival there so cute in it!, the hanbok they wear i think in lunar year? maybe all events but its a 3/10 when the ukata/kimono's are 10/10

  • i kinda thank korean is better than japan.
