Yes it's the demo. Just pick the easiest difficulty as it will start you back farther in time. This gives you more turns before the demo ends, and allows you to advance more.

have you been able to build get tanks yet? i found out if you your adv. tech only and get leo's workshop it upgrades all units up to its next form(warrior-legion). so i built massive knights in 1 city and another i had leo's workshop. i used a great builder to finish it and it upgraded my knights. it was so cool having like 15 tanks during the medival ages :)
