Yeah if only we'd had a sick, racist bigot win the presidency in 1948 instead of Harry Truman (one of our country's greatest presidents btw). Then maybe...I can't even joke about it. Trent Lott was a douche and so is this man (for shame, Oregon). Strom Thurmond was a despicable man in 1948 and he was a despicable man when he died. Just because he was 100 doesn't mean he deserves jack, much less "feeling good" about himself.
Well said. He was a hypocritical piece of shit who publicly denounced Black people in general but behind closed door was banging Black women ("raping" is a more appropriate term, considering the time and place).
truer words were rarely spoken. this was uttered in the "highest legislative body" in the world. what shame. history repeats. i hope my children are more ashamed than we are.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, blame the press (read liberal media). It's always their fault, blah, blah, blah. This guy has probably never had an original thought in his entire life and likely never will. Next.
Trent Lott shouldn't have said what he did, BUT, i think the fault falls on the Washington elite in general for allowing a strom thurmond appreciation party; WTF were they thinking!? I've read the transcript, and, yes, Lott was offensive, but not nearly so offensive as the fact that he was given a forum in which such comments were actually appropriate, and, in that setting, they were.
Sen Sessions today:"Some people in this chamber love the Constitution more than they love the safety of this nation. We should all send President Bush a letter thanking him for protecting us."

And yet Democrats still support a Klansman.

You gotta be kidding me! Take responsibility for your own actions. I'm sure he'd defend George Allen's "Maccaca" comment as an innocent joke.

aww, he was just saying something racist, to make a dying 100 year old racist *feel good*
Well, that still doesn't make it right.

APPARENTLY senators Smith and Lott share similar hairstylists, as well as standards of right and wrong. What is up with Republican hair, anyways?

Senator Smith the wolfpack is now circling you. I am an Oregonian, and I can smell your seat being up for grabs.

It must be hard for so many conservatives today to believe in something so deeply that other thinking people cannot understand.
It's getting harder and harder for the truthiness to prevail!

Just another example of Smith's willingness to say anything. Check out more of Smith's flip-flops at StopGordonSmith dot com

Reps/Dems in congress and executive branch are not listening to the American people. And thats why Ron Paul has a BIIIG grass-roots support.
I meant the 3 branches of government are not listening to the American public. Judicial, executive, and legislative
