Meyer was ejected for breaking forum rules. Chose to test the will of the organizers & police by refusing to leave when ordered (which is illegal), and found out to his chagrin that yes indeed, they have the right to throw you out, and yes, you must leave when instructed.

The only way to know if we really have freedom of speech is to use that speech responsibly. My friend walked up to his friend who was being held down and roughed up a little by a officer, he walked up and said "what are you doing?" without being aggressive at all. That police officer tazed him. Is he mad? Sure a little. Will he do it again? No. That friend did want to and still wants to be a police officer. When an officer intervened, attempted to cut Meyer off, and attempted to escort Meyer out of the hall, Meyer then broke away and continued to shout. Kerry then intervened and requested that Meyer be allowed to ask a question. Meyer was then brought back to the microphone with police officers on either side of him.

Meyer was ejected for breaking forum rules. Chose to test the will of the organizers & police by refusing to leave when ordered (which is illegal), and found out to his chagrin that yes indeed, they have the right to throw you out, and yes, you must leave when instructed.
Even the ACLU admitted they were right when they refused to help Meyer in a civil rights case.

The incident started when meyer disregarded the rules of the forum & was warned to desist or be removed. He chose to violate the rules, again, and was told to leave. He chose to resist when being escorted out, & was placed under arrest.

The only way to know if we really have freedom of speech is to use that speech responsibly. If we use our speech to attack others, and use profanity and sarcasm, and start reacting like a nutjob, like this dude did, it becomes difficult to tell if the reaction we get is from what we said or the way we said it. And that's really what the argument here boils down to...was he arrested for what he said or the way he said it...and, is heckling always protected speech in all circumstances?

My friend walked up to his friend who was being held down and roughed up a little by a officer, he walked up and said "what are you doing?" without being aggressive at all. That police officer tazed him. Is he mad? Sure a little. Will he do it again? No. That friend did want to and still wants to be a police officer. What I am getting at is this guy was in fact struggling against the police so they did what they felt necessary. They have a right to do that so thats the end of it.

He actually did have a few weapons, his fists and his legs. Granted he did not use them but he could have. That is dangerous for our police officers. He had 4 or 5 officers holding him and trying to cuff him or at least escort him out. Even if you are a student you can't just struggle against their authority. I hope some people will actually understand that. I know it looks a little severe and it might be, but there are worse things happening, just let it go.

Mmm, I think they probably made the decision to cut the mic around the time he brought up Clinton's "blow job." The tech person cutting the mic is never the same person as the one calling the shots, so there's always a delay. I really doubt it was about a secret society, whether or not Kerry was in one, so much as it was about disruption and obscenity.

they should have let him speak, then the University would have the right to say, we are a class act University, and we will not tolerate these type of disrespectful outburst, and along with freedom of speech now you have the right to seek another University and terminate his enrollment. The question put to Kerry was legitimate! How could he concede on the day before all the votes came in. He wasn't even fighting them. All he was doing was putting his hands in the air and moving away from them, saying "Does anybody see this?" I think if the police would have backed off a bit he would have sat down. They just kept trying to grab him.

This guy was not tased for asking questions. He clearly is not asking serious questions, he is attention-mongering and disrupting the forum.
Once he started disobeying the police- no matter what they said to do- he was committing a crime. You are not equal to the police. The police are ALWAYS the boss of you.
The tasing was absolutely necessary. By securing him in the proper manner in which they did, they were actually providing safety for all.

While this gentleman's questions may not be of concern to you, me, or another person they are "his" questions and no one in the United States of America has a right to shut down saying something they fear. He wasn't abusing language or acting inhumane. He asked relevant questions regarding rigging of elections, fraternity cleansing of governmental offices, potential régimes/clandestine activities of our Government. He wasn't complying! If you don't comply and then raise your hands and try to get away from police you are going to get tased. Some one previously wrote "Why don't the three cops just carry him out?" Have you ever tried to pick some one up that doesn't want you to? Yes he is only lifting his hands, but cops can't plan on that he is "probably" not going to become violent. They have to plan on the "possibility" that he can become violent.
