I finally got my CR-78 and the pedal trick works! Although I didn't realize it didn't quantize. I'll have to practice :)

Does the pedal have only a single output cable? I think the WS-1 has a triple cable. What jack do you have it plugged into? I hope this works on mine!

@moogslie The pedal I'm using has only a single cable. I'm using the write jack on the back panel. Should work fine for you also.

what kind of foot pedal are you using?

I'm just using a cheap sustain pedal, which was actually too bad to use as a sustain pedal - so instead I use it for programming the CR-78
