  • Does the custom intake give the car more horsepower bc in was thinking bout putting a k&n intake on my 04 Monte Carlo superchage

  • Buick Century also can do it. 97-98 Regal? 99 and up put the overflow on the strut tower making the new airbox pull from that hole behind the headlight.

  • fenderwell isn't worth the problem cause he is using a Eaton M-90 supercharger an those get so much heat by the time the air gets to the supercharger housing the air is going to become as hot as the housing is stopping the cool air by making it super hot alot with the housing defeating the fenderwell purpose. all he is doing is spending more money then what he needs.

  • overall how much did you spend bro?

  • Hey there any tips or sugestions for a 3.5???? Im trying to make my own but and stumped on trying to reuse the maf sensor

  • i noticed on this video that your crossover doesnt look stock.. looks newer or something compared to your modding basics video

  • First off I have you to thank for giving me the idea to mod my Regal! My car has come along way since I saw your walk around video! I do have a question though. Since your in souther Cali and I'm about to move there I was wondering if when I get my car SMOG tested are they gonna give me crap about my FWI? I have the exact set up you have. Thanks bro!

  • whered u get the pcm tray?

  • One observation here: Putting your IAT sensor in it's own separate filter is actually a very bad idea. You won't get anything close to an accurate temp reading because the smaller filter won't allow air flow over it. It should be in the wall of your intake tubing, as close to the throttle body as you can get it. The PCM uses that sensor to determine the right A/F mix ,so it's very important that it be accurate. Also, Spectre filters do flow well, but they don't FILTER well at all.

  • thumbs up from a LeSabre owner.im going to do a few mods on it,definately gonna rely on some of these videos

  • Finally put a video up of my intake i built using your help! the videos not great quality its more to show the sound. but thanks again

  • ive always wanted to know what that lil filter was... can you go more in detail on how n what the pvc breather is?

  • hey.. my air intake sensor is inside the aluminum tubing of my air intake... i guess i wouldnt need a "breather" filter on it? since its inside the tube?

  • how did you hook up the sniper boost shaft? i have a double dumped booster shaft with a PNP valve connection... naa just kidding, just made all that shit up! hehe

  • do you get horses even with the headlight on.

  • Where else can i buy performance parts for my 94 bonneville?

  • how did you secure the pcm. since it was originally in the airbox. how did you keep it from rattling around?

  • @FutureMarine246

    I just used Zip ties.

  • @JohnFromSpace what did you zip tie the pcm to?

  • @JohnFromSpace what did you zip tie the pcm to?

  • where did u get the harness extension for the temperature sensor

  • @javierplasc '

    ZZP or Wbody store

  • not bad.

  • john from space can we get a mod list?

  • @babydonald44

    Tog Headers

    High flowmuffler

    Fenderwell intake

    Short Stack intercooler

    Reflashed PCM

    Solid Motor mounds

    Underdrive alternator and Waterpump pulley

  • are fwi recommended for series 1 3800, i got a 91 regal?

  • @untouchblz

Fenderwell intakes are great mods for any car! Horsepower and fuel economy gains so you cant go wrong with that =)

  • Nice videos man. I. Have a couple questions are the same thing a cold air intake and a fenderwell intake. And also what can I do to improve my stock 3400 engine I have a 2000 impala and id like to make it faster but I don't know where to begin.

  • @javierplasc

Fenderwell intake the filter goes in the fender and coldair intake the filter is just located in the engine bay. If you cant get your filter into the fender you can still build an intake using the same concepts in my video. Then get a highflow muffler and a colder thermostat.

Those 3 are the first mods everyone should do and those 3 are the ones anyone can do on any car even if a car doesnt have a huge aftermarket.

If you have more questions feel free to ask

  • dude great video, my only question is about the holes in your wheel well. have you ever encountered any problems with water and moisture with the filter exposed like that?

  • @goleafsgo7777

If you look at the fender liner theres a small slit. On rainy days I just stuff a plastic bag in there. When it stops raining I pull it right out. Been running this set up for 3 years now no problems at all.

  • its called a pcm tray. its what all aftermarket intakes come with. cost like $20

  • My problem is that the throttle body is 4" but I can't find a pipe or a 4-3 inch reducer.. where did you get your stuff?

  • @Dezki

    ZZPerformance(dot)com

9.99 per foot youll need 3 feet worth it slips right on the TB

  • One more question, how is your computer mounted? Mine was in the stock airbox so I don't know if I should take the whole box out and put the computer somewhere else lol.

  • u could have just gon to home depot and get some 4 inch plumbing pvc or abs pipe, with a 30 degree aglme going to a k&n air filter in the fender,,, thats what we did, n works bomb

  • take that damn metal mesh off air restrictor bad ,on the throtle first thing i did on my grand prix and my caddi

  • @shine1221

there is debate on if you should leave it on or leave it off, for some it skews maf readings and for some it doesnt. I just left if on

  • Yea poke a hole in the tubing right after the TB and get a little rubber grommet and you can save on the IAT extender and little filter thing and it would be more accurate.

  • Can you just poke a little hole in the intake tubing and push the intake temperature sensor in it instead of buying the extender and the little filter?

  • You can but you would probably have to use tape to secure it and make sure the tubing doesnt tear over time . If you dont care for cosmetics go for it.

  • Ok thanks i have the same setup on my GTP as the second intake you showed with the 3 inch tubing i want 4 inch tubing.. wasn't sure how thick the material was on the zzp 4 inch tubing and if the sensor would stay in..

  • hey is that metal tubing completely needed? or do you think i could just connect the filter directly to the rubber intake tubing

  • Your going to need the metal part to connect the filter to the tubing. I think pep boys is the only place that has it. 4" in diameter and $14

  • @JohnFromSpace nice man, i totally forgot about the mini breathers for the intake sensors, nice setup, i want to extend my intake on my monte kinda like that

  • i got a 3800 camaro with a 3800. i wanna make 200hp at the wheels buti need it to be relieable. what do you recommend

  • Higher Ratio Rockers,Intake and Headers should get you really close to your goal and reliability wont change at all plus your gas mileage will improve by 2-3 MPG. The cool part is with Higher Ratio rockers you'll be able to rev your car up a little higher then stock

  • Good Video

  • yo, whats up man? thanks for commenting on my vid. i have a question... where did you get the extension for you sensor that you put in the tiny $10 filter? i need the extention to do the same thing. another question. since you moved the sensor to the bumper, does your engine stay cooler? my stays 1/4 to 1/2 on my guage already. and i have the resister modded.

  • You can get the extension from intense-racing or zzperformance

You should relocate it near your filter just so that your sensor is reading the air temperature as accurately as possible. Your engine wont actually run cooler

  • also, did you get a new, or tune your PCM? i've had 3800 motors before, but this is my first experiences involving modding them. i know about the "cold" spark plugs, 180* thermostat, and other basic mods. from reading, i've found that the intake is probably the best to start. agree?

  • Yeah tunes are good because our cars go 4-3 and 3-2 stock when it downshifts.

With a tune your car will go 4-2 and 3-1 so from a roll you will gain a ton of acceleration.

Intake mods are definately the place to start for us. The best part is you get to hear that Supercharger whine!

  • thanks a lot this really helped

  • Cool man just here to help my fellow 3800 enthusiasts.

  • hey john, nice video! i own a 1996 buick riviera with the 3800 series 2 supercharged (l67) (great motor!) i heard you can "gut" the factory airbox (replace factory filter with a high flow, of course) in place of a fenderwell intake and get the same/similiar results. what are your thoughts on a gutted airbox vs. a cold air fenderwell intake?

  • It all depends on the stock airbox design. If its a near straight shot to the fender then you can get good results with a gutted Airbox. 99-04 Regals and GTPs have very good ones while the 97/98 GTPs and Regals have awful airboxes not worth gutting. Im not sure what Riv airbox looks like so Ill use the Regals and GTPs as an example. Gutting an airbox is easy if you have a drill and jigsaw.

  • If you look at the airbox and filter of most any stock car its usually a small hole drawing air from the fender. Thats why when you pull out a panel filter its just 1 small outline of dirt because of the small hole drawing in the air. To gut it just chop the cold side of the airbox as big as possible so the whole filter is being utilized.

  • thanx for the replies! on the 95-99 rivieras the stock airbox actually receives "most" of its air from the fenderwell. not a true CIA, but very close IMO. riviera drivers have said that a gutted box with a high flow filter(and maybe after market tubing with less ridges to the throttle body) provides really good results. i'm mainly looking to hear some more supercharger whine and maybe a little better acceleration with this easy mod. our cars also have the IAT sensor mounted on the airbox,

  • which is another reason i want to keep it. i will let you know how the mod went and the results if you are interested. also feel free to suggest any opinions you might have concerning this, or any future mods that i might do.

  • You should post a before and after video when you gut your air box. Im sure it would help a lot of people. My friend has a 2001 GTP and I gutted his airbox but didnt post a video. I wish I did now since there seems to be interest in 3800 modding now.

  • Hey I was at Murry's today, and the guy I was talking to recommended against PVC piping because it restricts airflow due to the ridges, is this true?

  • Yes sir you want the intake as smooth as possible because you dont want turbulance. If you can smooth out the ridges in the PCV pipe then its fine.

It doesnt cause a lot of HP loss to have turbulance. Maybe like 3 horsepower but were trying to get as much as possible =P

  • Hey man, where did you actually get that PCV Breather from? Autozone nor Murrays dont have the one that plugs into the IAT wire...they got the one that screws on. Where can I find one at?

  • I probably should of mentioned this on my video but its probably the one you saw. All I did was cut it and bore it out with a razor blaze so I can squeeze the IAT in there.

  • Wow....are you serious? Lol, thats some good razor cutting. So when you got it, it was pretty much the one I saw that looks like the screw in type? I try my best to cut and bore it out unless theirs another way to plug the IAT in.....

  • The one you saw was 9.99 right? A razor blade will slice right through it. You dont really need to enlarge the hole after you slice it. You can use a drill to enlarge it ever so slightly if you need too then just push the iat sensor in. You'll be fine

  • Yepe its $9.99 so it gotta be it with also the color options they have....but it sucks though that I gotta wait for another intake tubing from ZZP...I forgot to double the quality for 2ft of tubing...but thanks alot!!!

  • I sent you an email.

  • Doesn't the air filter and other things you did wobble and move around in there?

  • I been running this set up for 2 years,Everythings fine. Just give everything enough slack because the engine moves ever so slightly but other then that the filter will survive just fine in there. It'll get a little scuffed up.

  • i got a damn 3.1 what should i do for more power...i have limited room?

  • IF I had a picture of your engine bay I can probably help you out.

  • well do you have an email?

  • wud up.. i just wanna ask if this will help me to make my own FWI for a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 05 3800 series 3... as all of us know.. the 04+ bodytype is different to the 97-03 so idk and engine but keeps bein a 3800... need help thanks! ohh by the way cool video

  • Your fine bud. I beleive your TB should be the same size. If it isnt all you need to do is find a coupler that fits.

Do it ASAP so you can hear your supercharger. Its addicting =)

  • metal flows better than that stuff u got.. buy a JMB

  • If there was conclusive data that running a JMB will give me another tenth or 2 at the track then I would run one. For now Im saving money for my next project =)

  • An aluminum tubeing with a 45 or 30 degree bend would provide more flow.

  • I've heard the straighter the tube the better because the engine doesnt have to work as hard pulling air in.

  • True, Shortest straightest tube, to a cold source, cold source being the main objective. It would take a lot of fabrication for a straight tube on these guys.

  • I've tried running the biggest cone possible right off the Throttle body but I was getting massive KR.

My engines happiest with the filter in the fender.

Some people get lucky and their cars are ok running a cone off the TB. All cars are different=)

  • The massive KR would be due to all that hot air, seeing as your downpipe is right below your TB in this case. I agree, the fender is the best location.

You have the point of destination down, its just that the tubeing your using needs to have a smooth flow, Yours seems to be like the stock accordion tubeing.

  • Its actually smooth on the inside. The tubing is from ZZP and I think they did the best they can to make the inside of the tube as smooth as possible. Not 100% smooth but pretty close.

  • Thanks man for the video great tutorial.

  • wat about 3800 in a monte carlo 95-99

  • Montes are Series 2 right?

If so this video will work fine you just need to be creative where you want to locate your filter.

  • Relocate your battery to the trunk. It will be in the way.

  • You could also try turning your battery sideways and securing it, looking at a monte today, It seems there is a small path to squeeze through there.

  • That's not too bad, Personally I would build a little block off plate right after the filter on your set up.

I do need to build me a FWI one of these days lol.

my Die grinder will take that brace out no problem :D

  • If I find a nice sheet of plastic then I'll make one similar to the JMB intake

  • No one has mentioned this, so well. The PCM box is in the way of the fender well inside a stock Pontiac Grand Prix (At least the 97 models.) I modded the box containing the PCM so it could fit the hose that was leading to the intake.

I've tried finding a box that would hold the PCM box, but no avail.

  • Good observation. 97 Grandprixs are the only 3800s that I know of that have a different PCM and none of them need a case re-learn if you get an off the shelftune. 3800s of other years may need a case relearn if you dont send in your own core to get reflashed.

  • for a cheap mod iv been thinking of testing out those electric superchargers on the metro. i asked a guy who has one in cardomain if it makes any difference.. still no reply.

  • I wouldnt bother. The most popular brand is the E-Ram and they cost $300, $600 for the "double boost" version.

Cars are known to lose 3 horsepower with these things. I think someone with a n/a Mr2 gained 1.5 Horspower.

Since the Metros engine is so small you might gain 3 horsepower but 3 horsepower for $300 is not worth it. Dont bother with the ebay ones either they are known to break and send plastic into the engine.

  • Yeah your right. I read some reviews on forums and such and they all say its junk.

  • Something to do with the engines a huge air pump and these electric supercharger wont pump in anything significant.

I guess a good example is to take a Firebird Ws6 with the functional ram air hood or anyother muscle car with a ramair hood. The faster your going the more power they help produce.

So while your driving 80 MPH stick your hand out of the window. Im sure an electric supercharger wont produce the same amount of air as you sticking your hand out of the window.

  • Yeah great point.. i dont know of any fan that produces that much wind force unless its a wind tunnel.

  • I have never been a person to buy used cars but i refuse to buy hybrid and if that means buying a 38 year old daewoo (this is liek in 2020) i will do it!

  • I say we enjoy our cars now. The way things are going they will take all the cool cars away. I heard in Nocascotia (I think thats in Canada) they are already banning aftermarket parts.

  • *Nova Scotia*

  • Agreed lol

  • were taking a step back imo...we finally got to the point were we can have lots of power and atleast 20-25mpg...now were going to no power at all and 30-35mpg...

  • Big step back man.

My Buick Regal with mods can pull off 31 MPG if you set it on cruise control and drive it sanely. My Corvette can get almost 30 MPG because its at 1500 RPM in 6th gear even at 80 MPH its still under 2000 RPM.

Its crazy how great technology has become. Look at your Kia Sedona. Its making 250 Horsepower. Look at the Corvette C4 when it came out in 1984. That had 240 Horsepower.

Technology has gone a long way and I really hope cars stay interesting.

  • My favorite example of all though.

Good ole 3 cylinder low tech Geo Metro pulls off the same MPGs as the uber high tech Toyota Pruis. Gotta love that =)

So I dont know maybe technology isnt that great.

  • I dont understand it at all...I think its aero dynamics...my van has the same engine as the sorento (02-05) and it gets better gas mileage...and my van is heavier!!

  • Could be gearing?

  • both have a 5 speed...i know the sedona does....not to sure lol

  • true..mine puts out about 205ish its first generation lol

  • Got it. Dude Im telling you the new Sedonas with the 3.8 and 250 horsepower are awesome.I was shocked when I floored it. Thats the first thing I do when I get a hold of a car. I floor it =P I wish I could afford one. Gotta settle for a Dodge Caravan since I do charity work I need a van.

  • My van is having issues...I was in a wreck not to long ago and the back door is bent and the repair shop says its from a previous accident i have a picture proving its not..I got hit at around 50-55mph...it should have been totalled lol i would love to get a new sedona or ....a new sedona lol

  • Minivans for life! lol

  • thanks

  • No problem bud

  • Kool..if i had a regal i would do this =8p

  • Time to work on that Sedona =)

    Just improvise a little =)

  • lol i put a k&n in mine..im not gonna do to much till warranty goes off (never had to use it but my luck has never been good)

  • When is that? The year 2024? =P

Things dont break until 3 days after the warranty ends =)

  • lol like 2016 =8x

  • Thats a long time from now. Cars will probably be flying by then. That or we will all be driving Smart Car sized cars =P

  • Lol probally we will all drive smarts cars...minivans will be like Mazda 5's lol we will turn into europe and all have slow revving diesels thats refuse to go up hills!!

  • Gee I cant wait =/

If the 35 MPG mandate by 2015 ( I think its 2015 or maybe its 2012?) then yeah were will all be driving smart cars.

Not many new cars average 35 mpg as it stands now so basically lets say a car company makes a car that gets 20 MPG then they need to make something that gets 52 MPG to get that 35 MPG average.

So It really looks like were all going to drive smart cars.

So In a few years check out my channel because I'll be putting a fenderwell intake in a Smart car =P

  • LOL rear wheel drive hot rods of the future!!

  • Cant wait to see the drag race and autocross tracks when everyones driving smart cars =P
