South Korea actually used to be a military dictatorship, just as bad as the North. It was only until the late 1980s that South Korea actually became a democratic government. Plus it was actually economically inferior to the north since the late 70s. So, the whole "freedom and democracy" in South Korea is a lie. That's only until recently.

Older koreans with direct connection to the war seem thankful and appreciate US presence.Koreans of 60's-70's vintage seem to see us as occupiers and dictator-installers.

Youngsters seem to not care either way,and don't know much about the 1950 war.

Google Earth: look at the DMZ, the landscapes are very different.

Run over by others for centuries.Peaceful Unification is best.
