Anyone who "disliked" this video is NOT American! I have always liked watching the A-10's practice here at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. Some people just see what appears to be a slow looking plane... they have know idea what it's capable of or that this plane was built around it's Gatling gun.
Easiest way to destroy these is a pound of lit thermite over the fuel tank in the wings, or toss a grenade or claymore into the cockpit. 50 cal sniper rifle puncturing the gas tank while parked on the ground works too but is repairable.
This gun shoots radioactive waste (depleted uranium du rounds) molded into bullets. Breathe in that depleted invisible uranium dust that has a half life of several thousand years, from these melting and disintegrating rounds, when you go inspect that killed tank, or are just sleeping downwind at your base, or years later, it don't matter. @Hickey169 It's a 30mm cannon on the A-10, I worked them for a few years. I still have a dummy round from it. It is just assume to see it open up on a tank at the range! The Depleted Uranium round is spot on deadly. To see it first you see sparks and hear the pinging as the rounds hit, then you hear the roar of the gun. D/U rounds do not have explosive in them.
@GTADriver96 None. It's official name is the A-10 Thunderbolt. "A" for attack aircraft. Thunderbolt, is named after the WWII Thunderbolt, which was also primarily a gound attack aircraft. It is affectionately called a 'Warthog' because it is ugly by aircraft standards, although it is a very cool looking, radical design. The outboard engines were intended to be mounted high to keep debris from getting sucked into the intakes on unprepared runways. Thus giving it the unique look.
I used to sit in the control tower at Blair Lakes conventional gunnery rang in Alaska and the guns would stop firing right at the fowl line (any closer you chance hitting stuff coming off the target) and the air craft were flying with a few hundred feet of the tower. It was thunderous. The sound would echo off the tree line sound like a second gunnery burst. Very accurate weapon in the hands of a good pilot.

The hog is the most idiosycratic, beautifully ugly and awesomely effective battle weapon in the US air arsenal. It also has armor that has saved the asses of many pilots, including my own.
these things were 'mothballed' for awhile help us if they end up as target drones out in desert...PLEASE strip them of the gun and $ell them to civilians keep em around. They are the sti/evo rally cars of the jet ecosystem....able to do things other jets dream of.

I know the A10 is primarily intended as a ground attack aircraft, but I see them all the time practicing dogfighting over the deserts of southern Arizona when I'm hunting. Pretty impressive when they make tight spiraling turns and start dropping flares! Even more impressive at night.

@holkins16 I vacation there and used to stay in a camper and everynight would see dual propeller helicopters and apaches and you can still hear jets breaking the sound barrier and if you look hard enough you can see them along with AC-130s doing touch and go's

I don't understand how anyone can call this aircraft ugly, I have always thought it was sweet looking. When I was a kid in school a recruiter came and I told him I wanna fly the Thunderbolt II, he said not with those glasses, I was crushed. Never did join.

With this knowledge and experience, coupled with the technicalities of german airplane and rocketry (including all intellectual property with it) seized after world war 2.
Most important of which was the work of Hans von Ohain
and the Heinkel He178 the world's first aircraft to fly under turbojet power.
Of which the F-86 Sabre (the first u.s. jetfighter and most successful) is a downright copy. If its not then the similarity is astonishing.

Hans-Ulrich Rudel has the world record in combat missions flights with 2,530 flown and 2000 targets destroyed; 800 vehicles, 150 artillery pieces, 519 tanks, 70 landing craft, one destroyer, two cruisers and one Soviet battleship!!
As a cherry on top he killed the flying "Ace" hero of the bolshevik Lev Shestakov whom had 200 combat missions and 26 kills in a dogfight.

Reminds me of my first introduction to the A-10. I was sleeping peacefully on my first tour overseas when I jumped awake knowing the world was about to end, lol, and that was just hearing those turbines whine at combat throttle as they flew over the barracks. I can only imagine what it feels like knowing this bird has been cleared hot and you are in its sights. Rock n Roll Thunderbolt =)

this would be cool except for the fact that the A-10 rounds are coated with Depleted Uranium. on impact the tank's armor plating along with the DU is vaporized and radioactive heavy metal particles are carried along on wind currents in excess of 150 miles. BAM CANCER!!

I know the A10 is primarily intended as a ground attack aircraft, but I see them all the time practicing dogfighting over the deserts of southern Arizona when I'm hunting. Pretty impressive when they make tight spiraling turns and start dropping flares! Even more impressive at night.

The A-10 was designed to be a main deterrent to the Russians trying to break through the Fulda Gap from the 70's to the 80's in an invasion during the Cold War. Their army of tanks would be slaughtered by the Warthogs.The A-10 ground and air crews CAS people are well trained to kill the bad guys.
