No one can be "on" every performance, sometimes the old vocal chords don't want to cooperate for a variety reasons. It's really easy to be scornful and hyper-critical, to people like that I have to say what I say to my daughter; "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit."
I am a fan of the studio recording....but he doesn't seem to do it as well live...and that makes me sad, but maybe it was better actually being there or something.
