  • Who is the organ player on this?

  • A legend of the sax.

  • 5:03

Michael has the amazing ability to just flap his fingers and cool licks will come out...

  • NOOOO IT ENDS!!! that´s the only bad thing of this video :SSS

  • such an emotion; it's really great....

  • the only one who can make me cry

  • Nice

  • Michael - we will ever miss you!

  • i got the dobbelt LP album version , were Jack de-jonette played drum and Charlie Hayden on bass instead -get that album if you liked this video

  • Coltrane was another guy, MIchael was a good one. Thanks for both.

  • The best.....that's really subjective.....he wAS TRUELY GREAT AS WAS COLTRANE, sonny rollins...what about Joe Henderson........I love it too.....but at least we still have MB...what about him....

  • @SnowCityy unfortunately man sorry but we don't ...RIP Michael

  • If this is at North Sea in 2000 I was there in the audience!

  • Hello, Whats the name of this DVD?

  • @mikep060 And year record.

  • can't help but crying

  • 3:58 to 4:03 is so incredible Michael is so smooth

  • wow, at 9:36 the drummer is just like HOLY SHIT this is just too awesome

  • God bless Michael, beautiful

  • wow he's damn good.....varbratos ....embruchure is great because his face doesn't change ......impressive!

  • 3:48-3:58.....what's that mark on his neck?!

  • @bluetony888 sorry for late reply. Mike played so hard at times that he blew his throat out once. Now I dont know what that means but he had to have an operation because of it. HEAVY CAT. If God played tenor it would sound something like Micheal B.

  • GOD puts music angels here for us...some stay for awhile...others leave us early...RIP...brother...we will listen 2 u...n remember u always!!!

  • I think you

  • As I a jazz sax player, I don't know where I would be without Michael Brecker. This guy was the best of the best. RIP Brecker.

  • Michael Brecker plays the lick twice at 4:43. If you don't know about the lick, check out its page on Facebook.

  • man this is the first song i hear of his. cant believe what iv been missing out on. could anybody give me some reference to some of his best songs or which ever is ur favorite/s

  • Dude, Michael Brecker did not die of AIDS. Don't start spreading that.....?!

  • I was at this gig back in 2000 - it was awesome :-)

  • encontro de genios

  • 5.41 = eargasm

  • @Lassesteff

    i agree ;)

  • 5:41

  • I think that Brecker is the best since Parker : Coltrane has a wonderful skill on sax, but Brecker had a better groove

  • Don't compare them. That's immorally wrong and stupid, at least in the case of Coltrane and Brecker. Brecker jammed with Coltrane growing up. I go to Brecker's high school, so I know. Just listen to and enjoy both of them. They're wonderful players in their own ways, and comparisons like that ruin one's listening experience. Just sit back, relax and enjoy.

  • Una de mis canciones favoritas, Mike forever........

  • It is great that today we can stil listen to his absolutely fantastic playing; at least he left us with whole bunch of great music... never tired of his style, sound and soulful playing... I don't believe I will ever get the chance to thank him, but anyhow, thank you mr Brecker!

  • beautiful, sick......

mike's totality as a professional sideman, saxophone virtuoso, recording artist, his ability to exist in literally every genre of modern music, it is nothing short of staggering to observe. take it from someone who stands, barely visible, in his shadow; mike was on his own planet in these terms. truly a gift to share the time/space continuum with him.....

  • thank you for nice tune !...

  • esse é o cara Mike yeah

  • very nice...

  • RIP =(

  • there's so much soul in this song it hurts

  • I think Brecker and Metheny compliment each other brilliantly. Thank God they played together so often.

  • @Spudbass thank joni mitchell?

  • don't wanna sound crass, but kenny G is still alive?? really?

  • my high school band director has been wanting people to see what musicians are up to, so he has a weekly current events assignment. He plays alto and soprano sax, and legitimately listens to smooth jazz like a nerd, so a kid forged an article saying that Kenny g was dead. The director FREAKED!! It was awesome.

  • Wonder what your director would say if he saw the video: "Pat Metheny on Kenny G" ....

    ...which I agree with btw.

  • Realmente Mike era el mejor, y lo seguira siendo hasta que alguien pueda superar lo que el hizo. Dios le dio un don muy grande el cual desarrolo muy bien. Me hubiera encado conocerlo...

  • Michael Brecker FTU (for the universe)

  • i discover you too late and i mss you so much thanks for your music mike..............

  • I know exactly how you feel. I discovered his music not too long after his death and it saddened me greatly to learn of it. R.I.P. Michael, the world misses you.

  • Mike Brecker is still the best.

The death can't erase the recodings.

Recordings are a part of a human immortality.

And Mike is still the best.

As Pat Metheny is since 30 years...

  • Nobody is able to sing on the sax as Michael. He really was the best...

  • It is a phenomenal and emotionally-draining composition, especially the original recording. However, this particular arrangement and performance is a bit...ehh. Brecker wants to stretch out on the melody, but Metheny insists upon playing guitar in unison there. Two leaders competing for control. It doesn't quite work. Incredible tenor and guitar solos though -- they're best on their own.

  • non ci sono parole (fanculo alla morte)

  • Pat always plays w/the best of the best...........Diana Krall as well.............all good stuff u ask me sweeet : )

  • Diane Krall is good but not in Pat's level. Sorry.

  • Best saxplayer ever... I miss him so much... :(

  • mágico

  • why did God take Brecker away from us? Not fair!

  • maybe he's playing sax with the angels who knows

    r.i.p

  • I hope!

  • he is better than angels

  • I feel for you man. But God is Sovereign above all thing. We all miss him.

  • the best of the best this song change me!! and everyday i thank you pat and mike (rast in peace)...

  • Thank you Pat...!

  • 3:02. Just listen to that.

  • Comment removed

  • god on sax

    god on guitar

how much better can music get?

  • Listen to that screech sound he gets at 5:29...amazing

  • just beautiful

Michael had a lot of "Notes Per Square Inch"

  • lol nice

  • per cubic inch rather ;)

  • Michael blows me away, always

  • PAT METHENY SUPER GUITARIST...by daivis

  • donde estes. GRACIAS POR LA MUSICA.TE AMAMOS

  • really dynamic

  • Channeling Don Grolnick - it's that feeling that goes beyond. The music will be here forever, so take some peace in that.

  • The end of the video is breathtaking and relaxing, look at the drummer, they're just enjoying music there

  • This shows Brecker's versatility in his playing so well, he has so much power but it is so controlled! Amazing! Metheny plays great too. thanks for the post

  • michael you never cease to amaze me

    this is beautiful

  • Amazing...pure love, skill and technique...he will always be missed!

  • Hey i'm a young sax player who recently heard of the Brecker Brothers...when did Michael Brecker die?...and how?

  • Um he died last year, January 13th 2007 to be exact and he died of leukemia not prostate cancer.

  • January 13, 2007 to be exact, in NYC.

  • lukemia. blood cell cancer...

  • Disregard that, it was just last year, but it was Cancer.

  • thank you

  • Goosebumps all over...

  • with plenty of means around why always the

best have to leave?!Great Michael, will survive

    his life!

  • One of the most amazing performances of any piece of music, ever.

  • THE VERY VERY VERY BEST ON THE WORLD!!!n gigisax

  • 2 geniuses ...

  • sTUNNING

  • Such a beautiful tune ...

Thank you, Mike ... and pat, of course !

  • Beautiful tune, beautiful tone, beautiful feeling, pure soul, greatness !

  • I never thought much of matheny's music!! I think that was in the 70's, it was all pentatonic and that is when mark eagan and danny gotlieb left him...he's gotten better but still a bit boring...

  • You are right! People said there wouldn't be another coltrane, but mike filled his shoes. Who's next???

  • This just demonstrates that Michael was as much about inner soul and profound sensitivity as he was about mind-numbing technique. I thank God that I saw him play live, unforgettable. God bless you Michael and thank you.

  • Pat & mike make us cry sometimes.

    A great love for music.

And music is one of the greatest human thing.

  • Greetings..I cry from music all the time..Often times the tears are from remembering who we really are. Spirit.

  • Right :)

  • O melhor saxofonista toca bem com qualquer um!!!!!!!!

  • I heard this tune eons ago - so great to see the video - thanks so much

    Mind expanding

I find it an unbelievable tune to work out to.

  • tears in my eyes,,,,,,,its so beautifull

  • "thank you" monica for my background...:((((

  • We miss you so much Mr.Brecker..

  • mobiusII, thank you for uploading this video.

    RIP Michael, you're the best!!!

  • Wow , the moment starting at 03:48 and finish at 04:04 is so soulful

  • My God! How great was Mike Brecker?! Why do all the best leave so soon? Bird, Trane, Brecker... yes he is in that league.

Thank you Mike for teaching us so much about beauty through your inspirational playing.

  • Mikey..we love and miss you terribly.

  • RIP Michael...

  • In some ways I prefer this rendetion to the 80/81 version... always nice to hear the boys loose and playing like they're in a club rather than a studio.

  • This group is great together, it doesn't get much better than metheny, brecker, goldings, and stewart.

  • great, i watch it again and again, for months, and even I am a saxophoneplayer, and I love the way micheal played, I would like to ask, if there is any chance to get the full solo of pat in an extra take?

  • Beautiful!

  • rip michael

  • I wish the spammers would do more demographic research...maybe I'm wrong but I'll bet most people who look up Metheny or Brecker aren't interested in hot new ringtones...

  • true lol. id buy some skunk funk as my ringtone though. wishful thinking, although i could make my own on my phone.

  • THIS WAS A TERRIBLE YEAR FOR SAX PLAYERS FIRST MICHAEL THEN BOOTS (tear)

  • Not only for sax players ! All musicians

  • this is one of the most truly emotional performances i have ever seen. pat and michael brecker. i wish there was more of them together.

  • ..it stops in the middle of pats solo!!

  • thank you very much for the warning ! can't stand videos stopping in between

  • The sing is from Pat Metheny's Album called 80/01.

  • fuiste el mas grande de todos el jazz llora tu partida, seguramente en un rincon del cielo estaras derramando notas intensamente. adios brecker eres mi referencia total

  • HEY EVERONE, I found a pianist, who is so good. She may be even better than Michael...well maybe not that good, but definitly my someday surpass him. Search for "long vent: improv on piano"...Its amazing. Some of the best I've heard on YOUTUBE.

  • Saxahorn, please, stop posting the same comment on all Michael Brecker videos...you're stupid, you can't compare a sax player with a pianist ! What do you do this for ? It has not any sense ...

  • I'm done, settle down, it was like 2 weeks ago.

  • he was THE GREATEST! so it`s not so weird that many people arround the world were thinking about him, one, two, or tree days before hi die! he was a worldwide sax master!!! now they got the best saxophon sound upstairs in heaven!!! we all miss you mike!!!

  • Whats the name of the DVD I like to order on AMAZON right now!

    :O)

  • I always said that Michael Brecker's playing was so beautiful, that it was as though he had wings. I am sure that he literally possesses a pair now, where his is residing. This is my favourite Metheny/Brecker tune. Rest in peace Michael.

  • Brecker is the best ever.

    Check this sax soprano/tenor stuff:

    Up Above jazz

  • ars longa vita brevis est ....

  • Micheal,we dearly miss you!

Your music will live forever !

    This tune is so beautifullllllllllllllll..

    Mario,from Canada

  • This song always touchs my soul, and now...about souls, I wish comment a very strange coincidence what happened to me monts ago. I'd readen in the net about the rare illnes of mike, around one year and half before. I must to confess that later I almost forgot it, believing that he'll find cure, and I had no more info.

Well, sunday january 14 in the morning(spain), I "suddenly" thought in Michael with certain worry I hurried up to google, and.. He had passed away less than one day before

  • (cont.)Coincidence? maybe. It was 1/500 prob., taking account the days I could to question the same and I didn't.Why exactly that day? I'm still surprised and moved. I´m free and I prefer to believe that there are more things in heaven and earth...

Anyways, Thanks michael. Have a nice trip wherever you go.

  • I'm very skeptic of just about anything, but I had a similar experience. Instead I didn't google him but I started learning some of his licks from an old article in Guitar Techniques magazine. 2 days later I find out he died the night before that!

  • nope not will lee...it's just goldings, stewart, metheny, and mike brecker. Great video, thanks for posting!

  • Bill Stewert, I believe on drums, on this video. Couldn't see the bass player.

  • oops already posted by corocanta (1 month ago):

    More Metheny and Brecker together!

Thanks Mobius for bringing this together. Any chance of sharing on DIME?

  • mobius II thank you so much for this post. Ever since I've heard the studio version of this I've been searching for a studio version, and here it is. Beautiful tune.

  • subarashii !!

  • hello mobiusll,"Everyday I thank you" is my favorite song at all.

It Is great to see a live-version on video !

    THank you so much

  • ....So is mine

  • Its amazing how Pats playing blends so well with the song and Michaels playing. 2 of a kind

  • este é o cara!!!

  • Yeah...they're both great...I remember being in a band that opened for a group called "Dreams." As I recall the horn players were the Brecker Brothers and on drums Billy Cobham. Thx for sharing

  • Wow, was it Chuck Rainey or Will Lee on bass?

  • Really too long ago to remember who played bass. I remember Cobham came out and did push-ups before they played. They did a song called "New York" which we subsequently covered in our band.

  • Will Lee

  • 2 of my favorites
