alot has changed but the south is still a stronghold of traditions,conservatism,clans,and "good old boys". funny to say many of them are long haired now. but its just a look,most are still the things I just said. back in the day johnny cash was a huge exception. he embraced the counter-culture openly and unashamedly. I'll bet some of them "good old boys," hated his guts for it.
