  • Saw Bruce do this in Cleveland. It was the most heartfelt live performance I have ever experienced in my life.

  • I am huge fan of Suicide; Alan Vega and Martin Rev account for well over 30 cds in my music collection. I have not one Springsteen CD. Although not to my taste I respect this man. This is the best cover I have ever heard (not just of Suicide). I can see he undertands Suicide and does not try to copy them. The song is minimalist, improvised and passionate; it is the spirit of Suicide not an imiitation . As powerful and beutiful as the original. And to do this as an encore for HIS audience..wow!

  • cool cover. You know what's funny is if the real Suicide had ever opened for him, they would have been pelted with garbage--just like when they opened for the Cars!

  • Bruce needs to drop more acid

  • Looks like this song is for Amy Winehouse today !

R.I.P Amy Repose en paix, mon amie

So that's it ! You flied Alors voilà, tu t'es envolée ?

too flash, too soon. en un éclair trop rapide !

running back to devils and dust retrouvant démons et poussière

after a whole life of lust après toute une vie de lucre

you closed your dark balloons refermant tes sombres ballons

and for sure in stars you high-skied. aspirés par le ciel étoilé.

    - Gil Minorque-Meilud

  • it is good.

  • What a wonderful lullaby...

  • I really like this cover.

  • This song just gets stuck in my head and its incredibly addictive to listen to!

  • A stunning performance.....right up there with the original. Haunting and beautiful.

  • ELVIS IS THE KING BRUCE IS THE BOSS AND ALAN IS MY FRIEND

  • i cannot believe that ! this is the cover of alan vega's song ?

  • outstanding Bruce, not afraid to experiment !!!

  • GONG

  • a bit candy assed version of a punk classic.. but not bad. the boss can pull it off

  • @weaselidiotu Well yeah, Springsteen's not punk, so it's going to be missing a certain edge. Springsteen's voice still carries it though, it's just a different kind of thing when he does it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this great video. I have looked for this song for so long since I was at the Royal Albert Hall concert, it was brilliant and the set will always stay in my mind.

  • What an outstanding fucking tribute to the great Alan Vega and Martin Rev.

  • I like him a lot more as a result of this.

  • Springsteen's were in Max's Kansas City, the NY nightclub where he got signed to Columbia Records; he gave songs to max's stars Patti Smith (Because The Night) and Robert Gordon(Fire, which was covered a few years later by the Pointer Sisters) and he was clearly a fan of Suicide;

the Max's family sticks together!(yes, even Madonna who got her start there as a rocker in the late 70s,before 'going disco'),which is why she had Iggy & The Stooges induct her into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

  • got this on a 10" vinyl. brilliant cover version of song by SUICIDE,a true legendary electronic / pioneering duo fro 70"s New York. Alan Vega is a god !!!!

  • @drstevie

I have the same record. It's an excellent tribute record.

  • i just wanna see u smile <3

  • I love this song. It's so mesmerising, brilliant in its simlicity. I also love the way the organ just keeps on playing when he stands up :)

  • The Boss demonstrating some mighty good taste here.

  • haha, you're an idiot.

  • this is it!

  • OMG! AMAZING!

  • I love the original but Bruce's cover is stunningly beautiful, epic, even. Wished there was a studio version, too.

  • こ、これSuicideのカバーだ。。。Astonishing cover of a Suicide's song by Bruce...

    これはこれでいいねぇ。 nice.

  • I love this ' rock'n roll harmonic ' at 1:10

  • Bruce Suicide Springsteen its oka!

  • dream

  • When my time comes, I hope I go out listening to this song...

  • You know what Alan Vega thinks: "At the end of the interview, when asked what's his favorite Springsteen song, Vega answered "'Dream Baby Dream.' On my death bed, that's the last thing I'm going to listen to. I'll play it at my funeral."

  • Props to "the Boss" for doing such a great song...

  • It's not phony at all. Suicide are one of the most original bands of all time. Why do you think your hero, Springsteen covered the fucking song? Ask him what he thinks about them.

It's phony real to be indignant about my liking Suicide more than Springsteen. It's also stupid and childish.

  • haha right... you are worthy of deeming a legend's rendition as pathetic. Yes, perhaps the original is better, but Bruce delivers his personal take on the song. Artists are allowed to experiment and sing it in their own way (in this case, this sounds like classic Springsteen)

  • Yeah, yeah, I know all of that. I still think this version is weak, at best.

  • Comment removed

  • It's Suicide's song. It's not their 'version'. ignorant twat. Bruce's cover is great but the original is and always will be the best.

  • where is the original?

  • You´re pathetic

  • the original is definitely better, but I like both versions because they do different things with it

  • It's pretty funny how the organ still plays when he stands up to sing.

    Still a great song though

  • The organ stops playing when he stands up, what we hear is the synthesizer (which someone else in the band handles...)

  • Forgot to add...oops, sorry, I just adore this song, love it...

  • 2005...a special tour and a special song...thanks, B.

  • Holy shit,I love Suicide's song,I never knew Springsteen did a cover. So epic.

  • erixoff i agree !!

  • at 3.54 he just walks away from the organ?

  • forse è meglio così

  • Hey, silly people... It's not a contest.

  • Mr. Springsteen spent a lot of time listening to Suicide before creating the album Nebraska which is haunted with elements of the band.

  • I'm a big big fan of Suicide, but this interpretation is ok, it's personal and that is why it is interesting.

  • my problem with this is how many people at a springsteen concert know the band suicide?

  • approx zero

and that is why it is so wonderful

  • @pi865 what difference does it make?

  • heartfelt but oddly literal. suicide are always already in dub space [they bring something new to it too] sound and mixwise, and that gives their music a weird wild serenity and tenderness - always reminds me of lee perry's late period black ark recordings, which is something for two white art punks from new york. respect to the boss, but he doesn't go there with this.

  • I can't imagine Bruce trying to imitate anyone, this is surely his own interpretation of this song

  • Anyone know if there is a Springsteen DVD with Dream Baby Dream?

  • Nothing official, but almost any bootleg from the second half or the "Devils & Dust" tour should have it. He played it a LOT once he "discovered it on that tour.

  • I was wrong, Mr. Bruce Springsteen still is the man. Great performance of this fantastic song.

  • He will always be my dream.

  • wow....listening to this gives me shivers rite up my spine.....I'm a huge fan...but even this, omg its even incredible for The Boss!

  • the hairs are standing up on my arms. im not even a super big fan but jesus...the boss can pick a great tune. everyone make sure to peep the original by suicide. ★★★★★

  • el boss

  • haha i like this

  • This song is... wow

  • Haunting, and beautiful.

  • yes, springsteen, yes.

  • i love his deep connection with Suicide.. Nebraska is just as beautiful as all Suicide works or vice versa..

  • fantastic tour that was and a wonderful song - thank you so much for posting this!

  • nebraska era revisited.

  • really great cover

  • anybody else think that this tour influenced bruce's singing? To me he sounds like he's singing in almost a country style even on the hits on this magic tour..

  • I really respect Springsteen for having such good taste in music! Excellent cover, too!

  • so he can sing the way he used to (the way he did between born to run and born in the usa)! i thought he'd lost that voice.

    nice!

  • he never lost that voice unlike other older rockers

  • My respect for Springsteen grew even more when I found out that he was using this song to close his shows. This song has been a favourite of mine for over a quarter of a century. Keep those dreams burnin', baby.

  • You can hear the Suicide sound in his song State Trooper also. I found out about Suicide a few months ago from an Lcd Soundsystem lyric. Love there early work.

  • what a gorgeous song, strangely atmospheric!!

  • tell you wot bruce you just went right up in my book for this, AWESOME

  • Love the original but watching Bruce do this live on his 2005 tour was astonishing....I get the chills just by thinking back to that night in 2005

  • yeah agreed, i saw him in dublin and toronto in 05

  • Hypnotic......

  • The song gives me the chills!!!

  • I saw this song/show 3 times in 2005. Amazing finale to a great show. We were "havin' church" in the arena for the last 6 minutes and 39 seconds (if you know what I'm sayin').

BARACK OBAMA 2008!! Dream Baby Dream!

  • You have 2 cams? Cool! Thanks a bunch, as always.

  • I am a big Suicide fan but got to say Springsteen does a great version of the song.

  • yeah, he does. shit.

  • Springsteen and Suicide are legends.

  • GREAT LULLABY. I'll sing it to my baby when i get it. THE BOSS SWEETER THAN EVER.

  • ooops! I meant, "aMaaazing" in the comment below. Also the sound quality is much better in the other one too...check it out. You won't be sorry!

  • If you liked this performance, you must check out the other one here on youtube from jenshenrik. When he stands up in that one it's like he's almost in a trance he's so into it...Aaaazing!

  • that's for you my love and our son frederik. keep the fire burning.... for the rest of our life!i love you!

  • How beautiful, Bruce just breaks my heart - he is so lovely!

  • i looking for the song how he's playing before this song in munich.he had only a gitarr and clapping on it. so i don't know the name on this song.but that was awsome. sorry for my awfull english. Please,Can anybody help me to find this song? When know the song, i mean?! thanks

  • The one before this was always the Promised Land. Search for an acoustic version of that.

  • This is a cover of a band called SUICIDE.... if you like bruce, you will love Suicide. I promise. Buy SUICIDES first two releases. Good stuff.

  • I think the first Suicide and Springsteen records were recorded in the same studio, in Blauvelt New York , at the end of my street. Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J. 's really a great great record , right up there with Trout Mask Replica and Vintage Violence.

  • @shorty30586 Hey Shorty! Maybe u are still alive, it has been 3 years. I saw him a few time on this tour. You could knocked the couple of thousand people overe with a feather when he played this! I watched and very few times I saw a audience react in this way and I have been to many, many different concerts. Thanks Bruce!

  • I saw Springsteen twice during this tour and the best song was the last....Dream Baby Dream! The show in Bridgeport, CT (my hometown), Alan Vega was there and Bruce introduced him. What a thrill!

  • i have this dvd.he kicks people out for screaming at him in this dvd wen hes about to start the river i think......the promise land and fire are great versions on this dvd.....got it in Dublin in temple bar if anyone wants to know

  • The Perfect Love Song.Higher.

  • Pure genius! I love this song, but even more I'd love to hear Bruce do "Frankie Teardrop"

  • dude that'd so be bad ass.

  • Bruce Springsteen doing a cover version of a song by SUICIDE!?!? (Alan Vega & Martin Rev.) I knew "State Trooper" was inspired by their work, but Wow! I'll give Bruce credit for putting more personal soul and vocal emotion into this than Vega & Rev do, turning a love song into something just shy of a hymn.

  • This song knocked me out when I saw him in DC. Got a bootleg copy & copied the song for my son who was leaving for college where he'd be playing baseball. The kid is following a dream. Told him to listen to this song when he felt like throwing in the towel. Magic

  • Thank you for putting this up!! I'd wanted to hear this again. Great ending to a great show.

  • I was there--absolutely awesome! What an artist!

  • get saving your pennies for the 'Magic' tour!!

  • HELL YEA!! Here's to catching lots of shows! :D

  • I saw this and it was AWESOME!!!

  • Amazing Video!!! Saw him on Nov 16, East Rutherford, NJ.. Bruce Springsteen is the best.. idc what u people think.. the people who r hatin. Im i jersey boy at heart!

  • This is a fantastic clip.

Saw him perform this in Dublin and it was so intense.

  • briliant!!! (rotterdam, may 2005)

  • wish i had this on cd

  • Springsteen knows music, back in '84 mentioned Suicide being a huge influence on his recording "Nebraska". Suicide is one of the most underrated pioneers of punk and the type of music Zorn and Sonic Youth would later do. Joe Strummer's future in the Clash was sealed when he saw Bruce in London. Bruce eventually met with the Clash when they first came to the US.

  • The sound quality kinda sucks.

  • The original version by Suicide is better.

  • Suicide's isn't even close to any version Bruce did on the D&D tour... and this one here doesn't approach his best renditions.

  • Great... but much more intensity at the Paris Show and much more longer. I hope a good version will come out, oneday.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting that, man!

  • Talk is cheap, just watch it again!!!!

  • I saw this in düsseldorf germany

    awonderful night

  • a bootleg video with multiple angles, how times have changed

  • bruce never fails to suprise.a master of his trade

  • it was really amazing to see live. the audience was absolutely silent. one of my favorite concert memories. absolutely hypnotic.

  • May 2005, Jersey? This must of been the concert with the sound failure.

  • the most beautiful song from NY band SUICIDE!!!

  • That song is from Suicide!

    i love Suicide!

    thx for this!!!!

  • damn... so... idk how to describe it... beautiful!

  • Thank you so much for posting this song...it was a major highlight of this tour

  • I loved this song. I saw him during this tour. AMAZING.

  • I loved this. Too bad the quality sucks.

  • Oh man, so beautiful!

  • Fascinating cover song to close each night of the Devils & Dust tour. Thanks for posting.
