There have been lots of "girly" or cute shows going back decades before this one that also had male audiences whose love of the shows made them grow to not care about gender stereotypes. Some of those shows were welcome and widely tributed on 4chan in its early years, if you can believe that. I guess many of you are just too young to have known about them.

Ah, yes. The dressmaking episode. :) When I first saw FiM, Applejack and Rarity both felt kind of like stereotypes to me. This episode was a major turning point for Rarity, and one of the smartest episodes altogether. For it turns out that dress-making can be a metaphor for any creative endeavor. From programming to graphic design, whatever field you're in, if you do creative work, you've had these worries... grappled with crazy clients... looming deadlines... been asked to make it 20% cooler...
