I'm American and speak Thai pretty well - the language overall is easy to learn because it is so blunt and to the point. You don't say "I would like some water" you say "ow naam" which translates into want water - it's seriously that direct. That's why you have ka and khap to make it polite

These videos are good. A more literal translation would help though- like sai baai dii means fine and mai means question. You're not saying how are you, you are really just saying "fine?" - answer fine.

Actually Thai says hello ('sawasdee') regardless of time (morning, afternoon, evening, night). It sounds weird if you say good afternoon in Thai.
