Hey Davie, i noticed you tied you're saddle hackle from the head down. can i ask if this is prefered as i tye mine in at the back to the head. Nice tying
One of the best vises to start with and doesn't cost a lot would be a Rotatable Regent Vise, this has a side lever action which is very easy to use and holds the hook really well..
There's lots of good vises in America so the choice will come down to how much you want to pay. Th Regal is the best side lever you can buy, the Regent is the poor copy of this vise. Others worth the money and in no preference is the Norvice and HMH which you will see demonstrated here on Youtube and finally the Dyna-King..These are a bit more expensive to the vise I spoke about earlier but will last you a life time..
Loving the intro Davie, and as always great video and excellent looking fly one Im defo going to try and tie up for some sea trout on the Kelvin, whats the fly in the intro it kind of looks like an Orange Allys Shrimp?
thanks a lot for posting so many flies Davie, keep up the awesome work
i went to Kitimat(BC,Canada ;)) ,end of July armed with almost all the salmon flies that you've posted, unfortunatelly this year the run was very very small
I ike that style of fly the look of it . I am glad to see how you did the wing I have tried to ty a few flies with a mallard wing and they didnt look right will have to give it another try ..
Is that the fly you were fishing in the video? If not would you mind show it to us. It looked like it was alittle bigger.
I used to fish a lot especially when I was a fishery manager and as well when I ghillied on the river. I try and find time to fish a couple of times a week either early in the morning or like tonight the last three hours before it is dark at this time of year..

Hi spoilheaps,
You can tye the hackle whatever way you like, this is simply the way that I like to do most of my palmered patterns...

Hi jamiekfc10,
A good sub for Jay is Guinea Fowl dyed blue but even if you don't have this just leave it out as it's a great fly with or without it.

Hi Chance,
It's not the fly I tyed in the video, it's an orange shrimp with a copper body. I'll keep it in mind for the next salmon fly that I tye...

Really nice fly Davie! I'm getting my first fly tying stuff tomorrow, and I will tie many flies with help from your lessons. Thank you!
Just curious, how often do you fish?
Tight lines,
