I hate people commenting "it is not that much you are saving", or "they guys on the hel icopter spent more fuel..." I will switch off because I care about the planet my baby is gonna live in.

That's kind of hypocritcal flying a helicopter around the statue for awareness of energy consumption. Aviation fuel is hardly cheap or environmentally friendly. That's quite the footprint.

The Estádio Jornalista Mario Filho (aka Maracanã Stadium) in Rio also had its lights turned off Brasilia has not its own Christ Redeemer, as far as I know.

The images of Brasilia are from Conjunto Nacional de Brasília (an old shopping center), then Museu Nacional Honestino Guimarães (National Museum of Brasília), Congresso Nacional (National Congress of Brazil) and Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora Aparecida (Cathedral of Brasília).
