@benjaminbostandzija Thanks for your interest in my models. My ICE 3, TGV, and Eurostar trains are custom creations and are not sets made by LEGO. I built them from pieces in my collection over several years.
@CTank2000 Yes, I just stuck the camera to a flat car with a gob of sticky-tac and pulled it around with another train. It was tricky to get the speed just right, but I think it worked out well. Thanks for your interest!
@HSGriffin I use the video mode on small point & shoot digital cameras for my videos (Canon SD600 and SD890 IS). The cameras are small enough that they can be stuck to the top of the train with a gob of sticky-tac (like you'd use to put a poster on the wall), which facilitates the interesting camera angles. The attachment is quite secure, but occasionally the camera will fall off... I have several outtakes. ;)
@chris1710100 The long curves are made from sections of LEGO 9V straight track. I have a video tutorial in my channel / other videos on how to make long curves in this manner. Cheers!
Little question: How many pantographes has this ICE? If it has 2 (what I thoughed that I've seen), it's a Br 403. If it has 6, it is a ICE 3 M(F), Br 406, used for services in Holland, Belgium, France, Germany (of course) and Swiss.
Next task: Makin' a new FYRA, Dutch Hispeed train.
@railion6513 My ICE 3 model has 6 pantographs (Br 406) -- I traveled on the ICE International between Basel, Cologne, and Amsterdam, so this trip was the inspiration for this model. Cheers!
Your ICE 3 is more accurate than the one in the previous LEGO City set. Lego's commercial ICE train is nothing but a cross between an ICE 2, ICE 3, and TGV Duplex powercars.
@schippou Tous mes trains sont des modèles originaux et ne sont pas vendus par LEGO. Ils sont fabriqués des pièces provenant de ma collection avec des plans dérivés des modèles de James Mathis.
@Atothepowerof3 Unfortunately, the 9V motors have been discontinued and in my view will never be made again; however, the new power functions train motor has the same format and would likely be a drop-in replacement (with battery box hidden somewhere in the train), but I have not yet tested this out. 9V motors are still available for sale on websites such as Bricklink and Ebay, but they are expensive.
Exactly. The long curves in this layout are actually made from sections of 9V straight track offset by half a stud between pieces, which eventually gives a smooth curve with radius ~1.9 m. I have not modified the pieces in any way. You can check out the video description on the side for a link to Railbricks magazine, which features an article describing this method in issue #1 (free download). Cheers!

hi, for me as german, is nice to see an ice 3 in lego over in the us. but one thing: the DB carries them ina 8 wagons long train and only the wagons 2 and 7 has a pantograph, just as an improvement =)
Thanks for your comment! I lived in Germany for a summer and enjoyed traveling on the ICE 3, which was my original inspiration to make one from LEGO.
For my model, I used the engineering brief from Siemens for the ICE 3 class 406 international edition, which has 6 pantographs (as I understand it), two for each of the German, French, and Dutch railways. I agree that the Germany-only ICE 3 uses only 2 pantographs, so perhaps I will try that too for another model.
Thanks for your response and clarification. I had misinterpreted the document, since it was unclear from the scheme whether the 406 featured 4 pantographs AND the 2 for for the 403 on wagons 2 and 7 (for a total of 6), or whether it just had 4 pantographs on wagons 3, 4, 5, 6. So I guess I have made a special version with 6 pantographs. ;)
In any case, I will have to pay more attention next time when I'm in Germany... the ICE 3 from Cologne to Frankfurt is indeed a nice trip. :)
So I gotta ask, do you think its possible to electrify lego RC track? I was toying with the idea of adding aluminum duct tape strips just like 9v track to the RC track. what do you think Lego9Vtrainfan?
I've never tried this myself, but a friend of mine has, and he had some success. He used a metal coated tape of some kind as well (I don't know the specifics, sorry), but the hardest part was to make the connection between track pieces reliable and to keep them from wearing out after the track was snapped together and taken apart more than a few times. He said he was going to make a video tutorial and put it online, so I'll ask him and post a link later if it's finished. Good luck!
Keep me posted! 9V track prices are astronomical on ebay and I just don't see the RC as being viable. My plan is to hook up the rc battery unit to a power pick up off the track so its still RC speed control and stop and go BUT, is powered by infinite power since the RC unit runs on 9V anyways.
I used a gob of sticky tac (normally used for putting up posters) under my compact digital camera and then stuck it to the top of the train. Pretty low tech, but it seemed to do the trick and didn't leave any residue on either part. I'll try to make a "making of" video in future. Cheers!
All of my trains are using the older LEGO 9V train system that is no longer produced. The current is running through the tracks and is picked up by a 9V train motor. The current LEGO Power Functions train system uses a battery pack on the train itself, so electrified track is no longer required / available. Either system will work, you'll just have to change the train design a bit to accommodate different electric pieces. Hope this helps.
All of my models are custom made from parts in my collection or ordered off Bricklink. My trains are based on those of James Mathis, and full credit goes to him for the original designs. If you want some rough instructions, send me a message and I'll try to help you out. You can also search the web site Brickshelf for user jamathis and see more excellent trains/plans there.
