  • I use mine as a low power test/development server for databases. With Linux, it's perfect for MySQL, even run MySQL Workbench. Then there's Oracle. Originally shipped with Windows, therefore SQL Server 2005 & 2008 too. Database configurations can be anything from an Express Edition to Standard or even an Enterprise version. Netbooks are portable cloud devices, basically a portable thin client w/ a display. One can always administer a database/server using one just like a notebook.

  • @jgcamp99 BTW, Firefox has a plugin for an eReader, so I also use it as I would a Kindle or Nook. Linux also has an eReader program. For me, the only advantages I see with an eReader & iPad is weight and battery life, perhaps even the 3g smart phone-like connectivity. But a netbook offers notebook-like advantages. I guess you can use google documents ?

  • actually that's quite a good idea I also have an old laptop (iBook G3 clamshell) running as a web and shoutcast server

  • hmm as a NAS? no.. as a remote control for an HTPC via bluetooth or the home network? yes. Use a small storage sized SSD to house just the OS and the very few programs needed and save network storage for hard drives on a normal machine :) but that's how I'd do it. other people have their ways of doing it. it's all good.
