Dude I have a '62 Jaguar and couldn't believe you didn't even mention the built in palm mute capabilities on that guitar!! It's the only guitar I know of that has that switch and it's an interesting aspect worth pointing out. Granted I don't think anyone really uses it but still it's cool.

Of course both outsold Bolan after this, but you must understand that at the time Bolan was a huge success - have you seen the pictures of Ringo completely ignored by Bolan fans whilst standing amongst them filming Born to Boogie?
