you should have charged and fired at point blank, or flanked them i always beat the first defensive line easily, you just sent your dudes right into their field of fire
I recreated the Irish Brigade's attack on Mary's Heights in Empire Total War (Blue and the Grey 2.6 Mod), only I had each of the 5 regiments at full strength. The Confederates had cannons behind them, and were protected by a wall. I had even placed two Confederate Irish regiments there. The Irish Brigade took the wall with about 700+ casualties out of 3,000 men who attacked.
@GeneralKenobiSIYE not. they were almost full strength anyway. their numbers were reduced to less then 600 men from 3000. theres no possible way they could've even reached the wall
@dividednation44 They had only around 1,600 men at Fredericksburg. They had never been at full strength. They started with 3 regiments, who were weakened by the Peninsular Campaign. They were joined by the 29th during the campaign through the slaughter at Antietam, who were then replaced by the 28th, and joined by the 116th. The only regiments of any real strength were the 28th and 116th. Theoretically, if all five units had been formed fro the start, they'd have had between 3,000-5,000 men.
@dividednation44 I've read up detailed histories on the Brigade. I need to make a correction though. They were joined by the 4th NY Heavy Artillery, not the 5th N.Y.H.A. At Antietam, they suffered around 60% casualties, and they only had 4 regiments, one was being replaced soon with the 28th Mass. At Fredericksburg, their numbers were reduced to 256 men. Only that many answered the call to form up under the flags in the morning.
@dividednation44 They were never anywhere near 3,000 men until AFTER they were disbanded following Gettysburg and reformed with 4 of the same units (69th, 63rd, 88th NY, 28th Mass, and joined by the 7th then 5th NY Heavy Artillery instead of the 116th Penn.) Through the war, they lost almost 4,500 men. More than ever served with them at any one time. Meagher himself said had they been at full strength, or even 2/3 strength, they could have taken the wall as they got within 10-20 yards.
u should remake this video why because on the battle of fredericksburg the confederancy had cannons set up 100 yrd away from the sunken road armed at the union army so every time the union army would get mode down by musket fire and cannon fire
Yes, never a good idea but it is what happened after all.
By the way, for those who don't know, our mod provides protection for troops behind walls, in redoubts, trenches, stone fences, etc and provides more cover from trees.
Yes, Garnier created what we call defense "dots" which are added by the map maker using a certain editor to areas where he wants added protection. Also, certain items now automatically have these defense bonuses like trees and plants etc. Garnier and AlaskanAvanger have also created several "user pieces" which are pre-made bits of scenery like trench works, roads, etc that ALSO included defense bonus.

@GeneralKenobiSIYE in real life the irish brigade never made it to the wall

@Eddyisrich403 Yeah I know that. But had they been at full strength, they might have made it, but probably not taken the wall for long.

@HWKTheDrake when you say trenches, do you mean like when you lower the ground terrain in the editor?
