  • I've seen many so called Lovecraft films and this one, although having more in common with the Shadow Over Innsmouth, is a fantastic film.

Here's hoping Guillermo Del Toro really does make a film adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness.

  • The vast majority of people making rude comments here have not seen this film. It is honestly the best Lovecraft film I've ever seen. It perfectly distills all of his themes and motifs. Lovecraft is not about a giant squid. It's about the futility of humankind fighting against a universe that doesn't give a damn about our existence. This isn't an adaptation of a single Lovecraft book but combines elements of several. As for the gay jokes, what are you, 12 years old? Grow up.

  • this move is a shame for cthulhu and H.P.Lovercraft -.-

  • We all know what WWJD is...What Would Jesus Do? I think a more appropriate question would be WWCD? What Would Cthulhu Do?....the answer? Does it matter? No one would survive anyway!

  • Four reasons why this got 40 dislikes:

    1. Cthulhu wasn't shown in the trailer.

    2. Main character's name wasn't Francis.

    3. Setting wasn't early 1900's.

    4. Tori Spelling is in it.......

  • Man, why ruin Lovecraft? His work is too good to be translated to screen by mere mortals.

  • This movie sucks... it's as if Tommy Wiseau decided to do a horror movie.

  • I'm expecting a Giant Squid not a gay guy

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS CTHULHU? I WANTED TO SEE SOME BADASS FIGHT BETWEEN HUMANS AND CTHULHU, NOT SOME GAY GUY DOING USELESS SHIT.

  • I don't get it, where's that octopus-dragon-giant thingy?

  • I thought this was gonna be a mashup of trailers and movies like other fanmade trailers but is this movie legit?

  • So where the fuck is this movie? NOBODY I know has seen or heard of it. It only seems to exist on YouTube in these "trailers"...

  • @VoodooPolitico Nobody? It's been up all over the net for at least a couple of years. You're not missing anything though. The story has nothing at all to do with Cthulhu, it's based more on The Shadow Over Innsmouth and Dagon. The movie sucks and its hero gets to do some sucking too/

  • @aldiboronti Do you happen to have a link or an idea where I can watch it online without downloading it?

  • Does Cthulhu actually show up in this movie? I don't wanna waste any of my time on a movie about him and not get to see a badass modern CG gigantic humanoid squid god or whatever

  • Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

  • gay shit

  • epic meal time brought me here.....

  • @daesonhow congratz wanna cookie?

  • @daesonhow

    Fuck you.

  • Tori Spelling's in it? Well, damn.

  • @LadyStardustVertigo Is she Cthulhu?

  • @VinnyMonster1 No... Cthulhu is a gigantic sea monster- often related to the Leviathan... It's like a squidlike davy jones, super giant lobster thingy that controls space time. :DDD

  • @Codeafo1 Umm, yes, I'm well aware of what Cthulhu is supposed to be like. I was making a joke about Tori Spelling. Geez!

  • @VinnyMonster1 My apologies, comment withdrawn. ^_^

  • @Codeafo1 No apologies necessary. Maybe I shouldn't have worded my own reply so strongly.

  • Call me basic and old fashioned, but i'd like to actually see a modern movie that actually has Cthulhu in it. You know, all CG and stuffs.

  • Some things are just meant to be read - for those who can still read :):):)

  • Lovecraft himself adopted the stance of atheism early in his life. In 1932 he wrote in a letter to Robert E. Howard: " In theory I am an agnostic, but pending the appearance of radical evidence I must be classed, practically and provisionally, as an atheist." ( ref. selected letters 1932-1934, Sauk City Wisconsin,Arkham House 1976 p57

  • H.P.Lovecraft himself adopted the stance of atheism early in his life. In 1932 he wrote in a letter to Robert E. Howard: "All I say is that I think it is damned unlikely that anything like a central cosmic will, a spirit world, or an eternal survival of personality exist [sic]. They are the most preposterous and unjustified of all the guesses which can be made about the universe, and I am not enough of a hair-splitter to pretend that I don't regard them as arrant and negligible moonshine.(wiki)

  • This trailer sucks. The movie is actually pretty good and creepy, but it has nothing to do with Cthulhu. It's from another Lovecraft's novel: "The Shadow Over Innsmouth".

  • Yes the love that has no name is featured in too many films, this detracts from the genius of Lovecraft

  • eww I just saw two guys making out. Fags

  • dafuq

  • wow this looks pretty good actually

  • Este libro tambien lo leeí es muy bueno, pero lo hice con mis oidos por medio de un programa creado por mi que puede hablar y leer a alta velocidad, esto utilizando los controladores de directss.

  • Fhtagn

  • R'lyeh? A cthulhu inspired movie? Phyagn ia!

  • I really liked this movie. It's not the best but still has lots of scary moments. I think the actor of Russel did a great job. :) Point of view.

    @9cloudersprofile

Don't be so rude man. It's ok if you don't like gay people but why are you so hatefull? Just show some respect man. I'm sure they would respect you. :)

    Love y'all. :)

  • Lol Fags being serious

  • Hey @9cloudersprofile, speaking for the gays who are too well mannered to respond to your remark. You are insecure with yourself and you feel the need to share that with us. I feel sorry for you.

  • @Cody3700 Lolwut

  • @Cody3700 Don't feed the troll dude.

  • The movie is overall bad, but its got some terrific shots. Really amazing.

  • This movie is about Dagon, and is adapted from the story called The Secret of Innsmouth (I'm not sure as I read it in french) and Cthulhu isn't even mention in it (naybe once as the characters talk about the Necronomicon). And an interesting fact is that Lovecraft never emphasise on Cthulhu that much, it was by the collaboration of many writters after Lovecraft death that used it to explain more in details the cosmology.

  • When will people learn Tori Spelling doesnt bring credibility to anything... in fact just bcz she's in this i wont watch it.

  • "Yeah, no, I was too busy having sex with women."

  • @Nov21983 Mary Palm and her five sisters?

  • @dgelcaganer10h Nooooope. It's a quote from 'Supernatural'. Lol.

  • Rather read the story over and over then see this movie

  • dude whoever is messing up whit H.P Lovecraft making seem like a conspiracy theory is dumb, Mr Lovecraft was a horror/ weird fiction writer come on guys live him alone in this is like saying Scientology is a true religion wich is not some crazy science fiction guy wrote a book and this guys make it a religion just like star wars bunch of morons jajaj

  • @dsadico

dude, every religoin in the world is based off of somethign sombody wrote, a man wroth the bible( well....men) a manwrote the quran a man wrote the torah a man wrote the dhammapada, i could go one buti feel my point was made. religion is always, ALWAYS based on something somebody else wrote or said. prove me wrong.....

  • @TheErmas don't get me wrong bro i love H.P . LOVECRAFT HE IS AMAZING!!! BUT TO MAKE IT A RELIGION THAT'S SACRILEGIOUS, BRO BUT EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO MAKE THEIR OWN RELIGION

  • @dsadico well dude im just gonna say. What separates Cthulhu from jesus? a different dude wrote a book about them? what if the pope had written Call of Cthulhu? Then it would be like Jesus was the Cthulhu and anyone who believed in jesus would be like people who believe in Cthulhu now. im just saying dude. im a pagan and i believe in all sorts of gods. sure Cthulhu's not one of them. i wish people would be more tolerant. let the Cthulhu cultists alone their people too!

  • very adapted...

  • @OfficialDaftPunk2 Uh, you do realize...To be a Mason you have to be a Christian right? Or that Jews still think the devils bad, just like Christians? or that the Illuminati is the gayest idea for a secret society and is just a concept in books and movies based off a political intrigue that died out centuries ago? Or that the Mason's aren't mysterious at all and people should stop using them in conspiracy theories, because they're practically completely transparent?

  • @OfficialDaftPunk2 Huh, a guy with a Star of David? what does that have to do with the illuminati? It doesn't. What does that have to do with the devil? even less, you do realize that Judaism isn't devil worship or satanism right?

  • did this ever actually come out?

  • @METALLERhates2332 He is a great fantasy horror author and Cthulhu is a mythical god mentioned in a few of his stories. LIBRARY dude.....

  • who is cthulhu and what is lovecraft?

  • @loubar68 thats what im wondering. a band name Dawn Of Ashes told me that HP Lovecraft is there inspiration. but i wanna know what it is!!!

  • @METALLERhates2332

    @loubar68

    Here's a new idea, fellas.

    PICK UP A FUCKIN' BOOK.

You'd be amazed what you'll learn.

  • how terribly dissapointing, poor Howard is spinning in his grave.

  • Seems to be nice movie, but ALWAYS they dont make a Lovecraft movie as it should be.

Always they destroy the quality of the books when they make a movie. I've never seen one movie and be as the book. I don't know why they are doing these things but they are not nice, for sure...

  • It's a disgrace to H.P. :| only the game"DCOE" done something to "that" side.

  • Um, Call it 'The Shadow Over Insmouth" if you want to do it right. They screw up every lovecraft movie. All of them.

  • so GAY horror is your thing. interesting

  • finally, a horror movie without a bunch of heteros...tired of seeing bush in horror movies cause I feel like a pussy looking at naked chicks, but I still love scary movies.

  • It looks like this movie should be renamed "The Shadow over Brokeback Mountain".

  • Those associated with the production of this film have angered the Great Cthulhu, and will likely have their souls decimated upon His return from Valhalla. You are warned.

  • This is a worthless movie. They were more interested in making a gay interest movie rather than an actual Lovecraft story. There is no Cthulhu in this film.

  • where is the big green monster?

  • sea mala o no la pelicula, me lie un libro de lovecreaft que trataba sobre el chutlhu,y, ME F A S I N O, es el mejor libro q lei en mi vida

  • Just remember, At the Mountains of Madness is getting the movie treatment. There is still hope. =]

  • @wonderboy2402 And if Guillermo del Toro is directing it, then were saved!!!

  • you gotta apreciate the effort, after all this is an independant film. and it does look pretty good, if it isnt that accurate.

but if you ask me, hollywood or lionsgate should make a cthulhu movie. they could do it right (with epic special effects for the cthulhu)

  • The movie doesn't look that bad, actually... but as a lovercraft adaptation it looks terrible.

  • @LovecraftianLEGO can you beleve that it got and 8/10 by imdb!

  • The movies never seem to do the stories justice.

  • Sadly, it appears Lovecraft has degraded to being only a word. Kinda like ToriSpelling or gayizm.

  • kind of cool that there is some gay action goin on in this story

  • Where's Cthulhu?! Damnit! I want to see the epic god from Ryleh smackin' down people!

  • this seems to be a bit of a mix of Lovecraft Stories. I think the reason Lovecraft is so hard to adapt to the screen, is because he plays on what ISN'T seen. He goes into great detail about how a creature is so terrible that you can't describe it. how do you bring that to the screen when the reason Lovecraft is so great is he leaves it up to the readers imagination to make up what these creature look like.

  • @fin38 That's a very valid statement.

  • @fin38 - I absolutely agree that the beauty of Lovecraftian horror is that he lets your imagination come up with whatever YOU find scary (although some people who don't have much imagination don't find them as scary, which is kind of the flaw in that particular method). However, I think the bigger reason that Lovecraft movie adaptations always add in random crap is that they have to -- most of the movies are based on short stories, so more content has to be added to make a full-length film.

  • @fin38 FUCK yeah dude,,,lovecraft is my favorite fucking writer man!

  • @fin38 This is all true, but if you ask me, a truly great horror film should do the same thing. Show as little as possible and leave it to the imagination of the viewer.

  • @fin38 Some creatures he describes in great detail, like the elder things and shoggoths from at the mountain of madness, and Cthulhu from call of Cthulhu . And many other creatures from his other stories like great race of yith, ghouls, and changelings.

You must be thinking of the story " the unnamable". Yes, sometimes he lets the the readers imagination do the work.

  • @TheEriczeppe You raise a valid point. But how many times does he write things like, "Just to look upon it shall turn me mad!" Something that's so bad it makes you lose your sanity just to look at, is pretty hard to adapt to film.

  • @fin38 yes, he uses the words unspeakable/unnamable horrors ALOT, and also the sentence you said. In a movie it would be the same rules. Only let you see the creatures he descibes in his storys but never the unnamable. Only a closeshot on the protonagist face panic and going mad, or else it will fall flat in my opinion. So i think many H.P stories can be brought to the big screen.

  • @TheEriczeppe there is a great version of Call of Cathulhu by the Lovecraft society which you can watch on youtube. They also did whisperer in darkness. Check them out! Bit different but very cool.

  • @fin38 Thats my it sucks when Paramount cancelled "At the mountans of madness", but spended 200 million dollars on a movie based on a boardgame (Battleship). GRRRRR

  • @TheEriczeppe You raise a valid point. But how many times does he write things like, "Just to look upon it shall turn me mad!" Something that's so bad it makes you lose your sanity just to look at, is pretty hard to adapt to film.

  • the fuck does this have to do with cthulu?

  • @fin38 Last year, in my Interpretation to Literature class, we did two stories by H.P. Lovecraft (probably the only two that I actually read that year). Our grad-student professor told us that H.P. Lovecraft would write in a way that made it so if you actually could understand every part, you were insane. :D

  • Interesting........But doesn't seem to follow any of the stories closely at all.

A movie based on The dunwich horror,Colour out of space, shadow out of time or Shadow over innsmouth needs to be made.

  • Got about half way through the trailer and I thought "no way.. They basically substituted Old Ones for Decepticons and reshot Transformers.." Campy dialogue and completely familiar territory in terms of plot

  • This movie was amazing. I've seen it three times and I still want to see it again!

  • Uh, and yes, there is some talking about Cthulhu and Dagon in the movie, and it seems, the whole staff thinks that they are one and the same. And yes, there is a Brockeback mountain like scene in the film, but it is not shitty (just) because of that. And for those who want to see a good Cthulhu film, check out the Cthulhu silent film. I have not seen it myself yet, but my friends are telling me a lot of good things about it. I think it's a fanfilm, but it is worth a try, i was told.

  • It's a shitty movie in my opinion. I've read a couple of Lovecraft, and I am truly amazed by his works. The video technnics and effects in the movie are ok, but it has completely no story at all. There are some random monsters in the film, but it's like a fucked up DnD game, where the mobs appear in the most unlogical environments (you know orcs in the closet and so on..:)), I could not find any logic in the whole story either.

  • The Shadow Over Tori Spelling

  • Why is it called Cthulhu if he is not in the movie?

  • Woah, wait! There's a whole film festival dedicated to Lovecraft?

  • where can i see this movie? or buy it or anything!!!!!!!! i want it so bad

  • Isn't that the house they used to film Red Dragon? (Silence of the Lambs prequel)

  • "They came out of da sea, and they KILLED lotsa people!" This movie will be terrifying

  • Cthulhu seems to have everything going for it. There's just one thing missing that we don't get to see.

    CTHULHU!

  • i hope they done make shadow over innsmouth into a movie until someone does it accurately and professionally with a big buget - but they have to stick to the story this time, most of his books don't need any hollywooding but they cant stop poking at it ... we need peter jackson to get into HPL somehow

  • totoro yeah =)

  • What book is this movie based off of?

  • @pauldzioba Google H. P. Lovecraft. It's a series of books entitled "Mythos". Your welcome. I'm always happy to help those who are deprived of the greatness that H. P. Lovecrafts book's have to offer.

  • oh man i would be all like this is cool but it showed 2 guys in bet together..... thats just fucking gay i mean i dont wanna see fags for a whole minute let alone a whole hour fucking gay man

  • @LilShaggy82 you don't want to see happy people? hmm ok must be an emo

  • @LilShaggy82 different but i dont see anything that would hinder the film, however the movement from the eastern seaboard to oregon will be a different atmosphere, he wrote it in the vein of new england, and the old patches that were growing ancient, oregon, well its beautiful but it isnt as old.

  • So is this shadow over insmith or Call of Cthulu?

  • hes gay?

  • Im going to sue lovecraft's grandchildren for using my name in his novels... (just kidding)

  • Who cares if he's gay, it just proves that your homophobic twats.

  • @4nus harry potter

  • Good Storyline, Shit acting

  • anyone know the name of the music at the very beggining? it sounds awesome

  • New Age?! NEW AGE?!!? SERIOUSLY?!? What christ-humper called anything to do with Cthulhu 'New Age'?!?

  • @2adGnosis New age is anything that isnt predominantly Christian or familier to Mainstream, often they try to reinvision old pagan, and call it new age, kind of stupid but its what they do, Wiccan= quasi celtic structure, with it boiled down for the masses, very similar to modern Christiandom

  • as anybody knows, mr. lovecraft abominated homosexuality and jewish semitism. i suppose some kind of modern gay-supporting hippie jews made this movie.

    mysticism: 0%

    knowledge: 0%

    ignorance: 100%

    CTHULHU RISE!!!

it's really time for the awakening. mankinds level of decadence has reached it's terminal velocity!

we are fat, we are saturated, we are ready to call the great one.

write me if you have enough balls to wake the great one!

  • @Favnir666 8=======>

  • @Favnir666 The only ignorant person I see here is YOU.

Cthuluhu is FICTITIOUS. It was created by a great author for out entertainment. GET OVER IT. GET A LIFE GEEK. You're like those nerds that go around thinking they're Storm Troopers.

    Fuck I hate lame people.....

  • @Youexposed1 it's just like Scientology. Based on a Sci-fi book by a 1950's author.

  • @Favnir666 Its like with Tolkien, people want to re imagine it in new light, yes its possible, maybe make it interesting, but you also lose the frame of mind of the original. HPL was a asexual racist agorphobe who hated anything that wasnt scrictly Victorian england, hated american style and society and ways of spelling, one read of him can tell you that, and he suffered from madness and died of cancer.

  • Respond to this video... P.S. where is your name from, i know ive heard it before.

  • I love Lovevraft's work. Can you guys can recommend a film that was adapted from H.P. Lovecraft's writings? I'm going to watch this film despite of some bad reviews.

  • @TheLawllyPop Check out the silent, B&W version of The Call Of Cthulhu that some die hard fans made a few years back. It's pretty damn good.

  • Stupid Fucks, ruining a remarkable story

  • It's mostly a gay porn,

    but the movie was ok.

The Miskatonic Alumni in me was writhing with frustration

but the non-bitch in me just watched it for the hell of it.

  • This movie has gays in it.... Mr.Lovecraft has rolled over in his grave and hopes to get revenge upon the fag ass producer....

  • @evilmonkey666555 I totally agree with you !!! why the hell they had to put on a HP Lovecraft story that load of gay SHIT ????!?? It's unbelievable... nowadays everyone can take a thema and destroy it in the worst way... fuck you all, gay producers, I hate you !!

  • Torri Spelling is cast in the new Lovecraft inspired movie, she's playing Wilbur in the Dunwich Horror.

  • this film sucked so hard.

  • Bad acting, bad directing, bad photography, bad soundtrack, bad screenplay, bad Tori Spelling!:) And what the hell was that with the gay romance? Totaly out of place and non-contributing to anything... I've seen 2 min video parodies of the Cthulhu mythos that were far more Atmospheric and Lovecraftian! Whoever produced this must have been an insane optimist!

  • I'm sorry- WHAT exactly does this have to do with Cthulhu now? Its the Shadow over Innsmouhth... nothing more.

  • Where's the giant mind-flayer that drives you crazy by looking at you

  • This movie was a surprise, DAMN good. Very true in mood and ambiance, as well, the story is similar but different enough to make you wonder exactly what is going on, and well.... the ending..... IS KILLER!!!!

  • Awesome, thanks for raping Shadow Over Innsmouth and naming it Cthulhu the worthless pig fucker who made this.

  • @BrendanFitRider

    That would be:

    Grant Cogswell writer

    Jason Cottle additional dialogue

    Dan Gildark writer

    Douglas Light additional dialogue

    Dan Gildark director

  • Tori Spelling is fucking good in this movie she looks like those fishmen H.P. Lovecraft describes

  • why the fuck is tori spelling in a lovecraft movie disgrace i canot watch this charatcer is fucking just wrong fuck you dallas really spelling

  • This movie has pretty much nothing to do with Shadow over Innsmouth or anything else by Lovecraft for that matter. It was a good movie though but it should've been called something else.

  • This movie looks pretty poor.

Why can't anyone make a decent Lovecraft film which sticks to the book for the most part?

  • @Giradius

Call of Cthulhu is good and sticks to the book.

Dagon is good, but you have to assume its title is 'The Shadow over Innsmouth'.

  • @Giradius there's a really well-done film for the short-story "the other gods." It's certainly not high-budget, and obviously not a huge, sweeping, epic story- but really disturbing, and if I recall very faithful to the story.

  • @composerdoh Well I don't every think that any Lovecraft book will ever have a big budget attached to it. H.P. Lovecraft was a nut. A smart nut, but a nut just the same. He was also a racist and hated Jews. Just because he married a Jewish woman didn't make him like the Jews any more. All that being said no studio is going to attach a big budget to any Lovecraft work or Lovecraft inspired work. You have a better chance of seeing James Cameron doing a 3D version of Archie & Veronica.

  • @Warsong27 1- I'm pretty sure I heard Guillermo Del Toro is working on a big Hollywood version of "The Mountains of Madness"

2- There are tons of faithful Lovecraft followers, and I think Hollywood producers are more interested in what makes money than whether some dead guy was anti-Semite-Roald Dahl stories get made into films CONSTANTLY.

3- You should reply this at Giradius, not me- he's the one who posed the question, and has no idea of the interesting response you wrote.

  • @composerdoh Thanks for the update. Note what makes this really funny is that I was joking about James Cameron but, Guillermo Del Toro is directing it James Cameron is possibly producing the film. So maybe the 3D version of Archie & Veronica isn't that far off. Del Toro, really know horror well so I can't even imagine what this is going to be like.

  • @Warsong27 hahaha... well, I have a feeling they're not going to be as faithful to the book as mr Giradius would like.

But if they think they can make money off of it- THEY'LL MAKE IT.

Trust me- if Oprah found a children's story by Hitler and somehow managed to sanitize it so that by the end of the show, no one had a problem with it and it was selling like hotcakes, within hours there'd be movie studios fighting over buying the rights.

    I'll be watching for Archie/Veronica 3D.

  • @Warsong27 I immagine a lot more into the stories they mentioned reading from the walls, and very interesting interpretations of those creatures, a taste in my book is Hellboy and pan's labrynth. you can see the deep deep influence from these writings in his work, so it would be thrilling to see him touch ground with what i assume is his genesis of creature artwork.

  • @Giradius weres kithulu?

  • @Giradius Because Lovecraft's stuff is... actually very drab.

He's a bit like the Ayn Rand of horror. Awesome ideas, but really dry execution. Making a movie based to-the-letter on his works would look a lot like this trailer... tryin too hard.

  • @Anon3928 whoooooooooa, slow down buddy boy. If you're not a Lovecraft fan, thats alright. But to critisize the founder of modern horror as "dry?" Please, leave..

  • @Anon3928 Not drab for those in the 1920's. He was ahead of his time in terms of sci-fi/horror.

  • @Giradius try the resurrected its probably the best movie based on an H.P. Lovecraft story

  • It's a bad sign when Tori Spelling is in a Cthulhu movie.

  • @666slink Speaking of "bad signs," I see an ominous number in your name. :P

  • @666slink Is it a Horror than?

  • @666slink why? does he spell stuph wrongz0rz?

  • @Arantre20 What?

  • @666slink haha

  • I liked this movie. There where some things that bugged me and the first 30 minutes where utterly pointless, but the rest was pretty good.

  • ......no

  • I want to move there!

  • holy crap, is this an actual trailer?
