I think Zildjian got the ride cymbal right with the A Custom rides but Sabian definitely does a better job with crashes than Zildjian does.

I think that all the cymbal companies (Zildjian, Paiste, Meinl, Sabain), all have distinct voices to them. They all have certain aspects that make them who they are.

He just doesn't know how to hit a cymbal correctly. I never broke a cymbal in 18 yrs of playing. I have 6 Zildjian a custom cymbals and never broke any of them. Same thing with the Paiste cymbals I own. Never broke any of them

Never - I have a thicker A custom projection crash - but I have two a custom splashes and an 18 a custom

crash which I have beat the fuck out of. The cymbals are almost 10 years old. No nicks-dings or cracks

I just recently switched to Paiste - I still own the Zildjians

The Sabian Cymbal company was founded in 1981 in Meductic, New Brunswick, Canada by Robert Zildjian, son of Avedis Zildjian III, the head of the Avedis Zildjian Company. In a nutshell, Sabian cymbals exist becuase of Zildjian in the first place !!

You know, I find it sad that the top comment is one that kind of insults the great Zildjian company. Zildjian has been making cymbals for about 400 years, and they do an outstanding job.

Every company, be it Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, or any other cymbal maker, has great sounding cymbals. Which one you choose is an individual choice. That doesn't make any of them better or worse than the others.

Its all about the sound in the end.

I use Zildjian symbols in my school's band. They sound pretty good for school instruments, which are usually just standard equipment.

@acdcjonnyboy The A series, A customs, or the K or K custom series..it depends on what sound you are looking for and if you have the money for them since they are all pretty pricey. I myself have the A series, with a k custom hybrid china.

@acdcjonnyboy i broke my ZXT's in about a year. Im getting Sabians now because they sound awesome and the 2 year warranty sealed the deal for me. Just go to your local store and play them. see what you like

@acdcjonnyboy DON'T get ZBTs. I love Zildjian and their my choice for cymbals but the ZBTs are just not good. Go online to eBay or craigslist and look for used A, A Custom, K, or K Custom cymbals. I get really good deals on professional cymbals by doing this. Just make sure that the used cymbals don't have cracks or keyholes!

No cymbal will ever be as good as zildjian and that is why ziljdian holds 69% of the cymbal maket. I prefer automated hammering over hand hammering because the sound from cymbal to cymbal is much more consistent with automated hammering. I have played and own many brands of cymbals and no brand is as good as zildjian.

I just got a private tour of the whole factory last week. Awesome experience!! Great people. I met Cragie Zildjian that day. Wonderful person. She stopped and talked to us for 15 minutes or so during the tour..

you can get the mcs pack for the same price as the zbt pack. but in all honestly, you should get the mcs packs because you get a WAY better cymbal for the price compared to the zbt.

it is good, but honestly, you should really get the mcs box set, it's 100 dollars more. I KNOW it sounds like a lot more money, but trust me, they are MUCH MUCH better. With the HCS, you'll replace them soon, but with the MCS, you'll keep them for a long time.

You are somewhat correct. Agop who died some time ago was the factory manager for Kerope Zildjian, where the K name comes from. That factory was shut down and moved to Canada, which is now Sabian, after Bob and Armand Zildjian split after the death of Avedis. The Istanbul company also split, Mehmet was actually the cymbal smith who studied under Kerope.

i have to say that i'm a paiste man myself..but i gotta say that zildjian are THE most famous name on cymbals, and their history is unsurpassed by any other company !..they're the kings (literally !) of cymbal making !!

Sorry but most of that is just pure marketing hype. I've got a 20 year old K ride that was hammered by a machine and I've yet to find a cymbal to match it's quality and character, other than another K.

The fact is Sabian hand hammers cymbals because Zildjian has patents on most of it's hammering technologies, so Sabian just does it the way they did when they were part of Zildjian.

I've got nothing bad to say about Sabian, because they make a nice product, but the fact is, it's marketing hype.

Only the HH and HHX series by Sabian are hand hammered. The AA and AAX series use almost the exact same manufacturing process. The main difference with Zildjian is their machining technologies are lightyears ahead of anyone else.
