I agree that Leighton is a better actress, and I definitely prefer her. However, I think that Blake is often unfairly judged. If Serena was written to be half as interesting as Blair, I think Blake would have more opportunities to show off her skills. She was absolutely incredible in The Town, and has been cast on the spot by directors more than once who didn't even know anything about Gossip Girl. That definitely says something.

Leighton and Ed are the best actors from GG, I guess. They manage to make the most stupid story watchable. Penn is good, but Chace and Blake aren't. I think the problem with Chace might be that his storylines suck (throughout the entire series he has nothing to do but date random girls) and he doesn't get the chance to improve. Ok, Blake's stories aren't that great either, but at least she gets more screentime which is a great way to practice. Unfortunately I cannot see a difference.

I think that Ed was capable to bring some depth into Chuck even BEFORE there actually was a storyline that showed hidden fears and desires. He manages to put on a American accent and changed his voice entirely until it suited the character.

Penn is a a good actor, too, as he makes Dan a believable person, but I just think Ed brings more depth into his character than Penn does, getting people to like Chuck even though he can be really coldhearted.
