I like these movies but what's annoying about this scene is that it portrays Eowyn as a frightened little frail girl who *can't fight* much less stand upright in a fighting stance, and the witch king is shown as a 9ft tall giant who can't fight to save his life. The witch king was once a man. Getting killed and turned into a wraith doesn't make you grow AFAIK.

The whole reason she was able to kill the Witch King was because Merry's sword had been made specifically for that purpose. Ordinarily swords and other physical weapons were useless against him. Not that Merry knew any of this, or any movie goers since they skipped how he was supposed to get that sword way back in the beginning. If you remove the part where Merry stabbed him, the WK should have killed her.

And on the contrary, I feel that a woman's presence on the battlefield or in "action-oriented" stories gives another level of enjoyment to the work... provided their part is written well. Well, for one, the sword was elvish. It was an ancient sword specifically designed to kill the Witch-King and his ilk. Secondly, Eowyn is not a barmaid, she's a shieldmaiden of Rohan, and a complete badass in her own right - more skilled than just about any man.
