Could only be people from the usa who would want to build something and ruin more of the planet. We don't need all the rubbish we have created. This place a natural phenomena and simply exists. Nothing need be done...... it doesn't need to be USED for anything least of all humanity's greed for more ways to serve its meaningless lives.
@globalmanlover - It's all perspective. You could say that we want to preserve natural areas to please us and enjoy in our meaningless lives for a different reason than enjoying elctricity for another reason. It is pretty uneversal that we mess with nature whereever we go, even Austrailians
It would be a great place wouldn't it? But yeah, it would ruin the natural beauty, and there would be no point considering the closest densely populated urban area is about 1000KMs away. Resistance in the power lines would cause too much power loss for it to be efficient.
You're right mr vodafone. It sounds silly, wait no, it sounds fukin pathetic. In the words of the great late Bill Hicks, kill yourself. Over bearing advertizing polluting the airwaves.
I see two ways to turn it into a hydroelectric generator. First by boring down into the rock to build turbine chambers, later opening tunnels to allow flow in/out of turbines, then closing the natural openings with gates. Second is the energy of the rises and fall, as this might be harnessed to produce clean, free, electricity. The effect could also be duplicated by man, sparing the natural wonder.
That was pretty cool.. but to the moron that said Austria... just so ya know, thats different from Australia.. in Australia they speak English because it was settled by the Brits. they speak German in Austria.. just a little F.Y.I. for all those confused, or just too dumb to know the difference between an island/continent in the southern hemisphere, and a country in europe.
I'm a Sea Kayaker, and Scuba Diver, and have been through, and dived in some extreme tidal races, and when the water flows downhill as it does here, you know it is awesome!!
@IGranturismo There was a reason i typed THE with caps, I meant like he is the answer to every narrator voices. Like he is the true narrator voice.. bah, dont care to explain any further.
@89bilefroth high and low tides happen everyday.., so this would happen everyday :) amazing place, you can leave your boat somewhere, go make dinner, and next thing you know, your boat is 10meters out of the water, most amazing place in the world!
Quite the interesting video. And quite the spectacular tidal action.
The Bay of Fundy between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia has the highest tides in the world with tidal differences of over 62 feet measured at Burncoat Cape. And, a higher rate of water flow occurs at mid-tide past Cape Spit than occurs in all the rivers of the world combined.
But, the tidal action is slow and steady, and doesn't have the spectacular effect that this location in Australia does.
look at all the water moving thru there. and the crack in the landscape is only like 10 feet across. and some people are still stupid enough to believe the colorado river carved the grand canyon.
@crawlinjohn I can see you love mother nature.., one of the most beatiful places in the world, and you want to place a generator there..., thats disgusting!
@crawlinjohn It's a very long way to the closest community - at least 500km so not very efficient to transport the energy. I used to work there on a pearl farm so am aware of this!
There is nothing more enjoyable than spending a week long vacation with your loved ones at the Victorian charm of the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, Delaware.
No way, Sir David Attenborough is british, BBC is british and you wonder why they used a british narrator?! FYI: it's Attenborough himself narrating this
@Strategy5659 BBC is the oldest brittish channel... I hope that helped. They often use brittish narrators of course. And it´s Attenborough, one of the greatest natural finders you can get. If anyone knows anything about nature it´s that guy... don´t tell me you tell ill of him...
@mmp3pets its proper, not proprer. if you are going to correct someone on their spelling, your spelling better be correct. also, he's Albanian, English isn't his first language, nor is he fluent in it.
I wonder what it would take to harness all that energy? Obviously conventional dams and turbines won't work because the slack period is only a few hours. Maybe they should put the worlds biggest water wheel in the channel.
@Zyworski they could dam the two entrances to the bay and place bidirectional turbine raceways there. The turbines might get damaged by fish getting sucked through the blades though - this could be controlled by regular poison dumps on the reef to stop the fish interfering.
@toranamunter The point I made is that there isn't enough time between raging currents to build a dam. If a dam could magically be built there is no need to poison the fish a simple screen over the intake will work just fine.
@eckyspondoolie I'd say it might be because of either 1) the velocity of the water is too great 2) maintenance would be difficult in this area 3) the massive change in tide means it would be quite inconsistent or 4) the government is stupid.
Probably number 4 :P the rest are just guesses because at first I wondered the same thing!
