  • Hey I heard that there were talks of Gulfview Square Mall closing all together! good videos you got there its a shame whats going on down there. I left 9 years ago to come back to NY and man it really is a shame.

  • @rig48

I had heard the same thing about the mall. If they close it it'll be a deathblow for the local economy here.

  • I grew up in that area. I remember when that shopping plaza was opened. It was an awesome day when Target came to town, especially since Wal-Mart was across the street. I now fear for Gulf View Square Mall. I have herd rumors that the Sears will be closing at the begining of 2011. The last time I was in the area, it seemed abandoned. But yet US19 is still busy.

  • @Z24chic

    Thank you for your post

I was at Gulfview today and I spoke to several merchants there. They're all in agreement that at least 20 stores including one anchor will close there by February 28, 2011.

If that many stores leave the mall then the it would probably close by the end of next year. I don't see any way around it.

  • Thanks for your great videos, John. I wish there were more like you doing the same. :)

  • @KManohar1

Thank you for that. I really appreciate it.

  • Good Rittance Target !! Who needs a corp. meddling in POLITICS and supporting candidates who HATE and marginalize a beautiful segment of the population like a school bully on the playground....... WHO CARES !! There are lots of stores that will take its place.........as something similar happened here. It's taken a while but amazingly....these place eventually get rented out again. Looks like this plaza needs UPDATING and an OVERHAUL like we got here.

  • makes common sense john if you open your eyes.........whats next? civil unrest?riots? looting?...murder for a loaf?....if all the large stores close its because they are safeguarding their stock........another thing is that very shortly the price of goods will inflate so much most folk wont be able to afford the basics......passage of goods from china have already slowed down due to suez/gulf of aden pirates? - probably planned to further damage worldwide economy....WW3 will defo be happening.

  • theyre possibly all closing as they know whats ahead and dont want the oods bein looted.

  • Where did you hear that from?

  • Thank you very much.

    Take care,

    John

  • I can't complain about the doctors over there they were all good for me and my family especially at bayonet point hospital all were excellent cardiologists. I hope at least that's still the same? I was up in springhill and it looks much better than port richey

  • How could medical practices be cutting back! Florida is gods waiting room! Especially in that town I believe you have to show a birth certificate showing your at least 70 to live in new port richey lol! Springhill I've seen is constantly growing I remember when there were just dirt roads now they're big shopping centers

  • Spring Hill is in worse shape than New Port Richey is.

  • If you want a good job do yourself a favor move to springhill florida or go to clearwater you will have no future in new port richey!

  • Great, Target is gone, that's more money for small businesses

  • I'm guessing educated people like me and my wife left town and the trailer park trash have moved in I was talking with a guy at my job who lives over there and he said a lot of the blame over there is the police chief in pasco? He said also every five minutes ridge road walmart calls the cops to come get shoplifters!

  • I suppose if your not in the medical field in that town your out of a job! The mall doesn't even have the carousel anymore! How's best buy doing? I say one year from now diilards macys toys r us and staples will be gone!

  • The medical facilities and the doctors offices in the area have been laying people off and or cutting staff hours back.

  • I saw that place! They did have some cool dvds for 3.99! Who's gonna go in dillards and spend 60.00 dollars for a shirt in that neighborhood! Do you think its over for dillards and macys?

  • Both those departments stores are on borrowed time. I'm surprised they haven't announced that they'll be closing their Gulfview Mall stores yet. I suppose it's just a matter of time.

  • I came by there sunday they were selling off all the fixtures in the target then went into the mall do they just keep renting out floor space to other companies? That mall is just filled with old people walking around! And all the good stores are gone and were replaced with cheap crappy stores that mall will not make it right? Its really sad to see my old neighborhood go to crap! I remember a few short years ago how nice it use to be around there

  • It's hard to believe there's a dollar store in the mall.

  • Thanks for the vid. It brings to mind the actual mess the US is truly in. It's getting worse, and worse.

We just need to be prepared for the worst and hope for better.

  • You're welcome. I'm glad you liked it.

    Take care,

    John

  • Are they gonna tear down the target? Are any of them working at other target stores like the company said the would? Or is that just company bullshit that they told the media?

  • Those are great questions which I don't know the answers to.

    Take care,

    John

  • what do you do for a living(work)?

  • I'm in a position right now where I don't have to work to earn money. To keep busy though I do a lot of writing and these videos among other things.

    Take care,

    John

  • I just heard at work that holiday and new port richey is full of drugs and whores on us 19 plus loads of mexicans and rednecks and minorities is that true? I'm sure it is! You guys over there need unions! For me and my wife I pay 34 dollars a month union dues for full health and dental coverage! Your town is dying and obama don't give a shit about you!

  • yes that is somewhat ture. i live in port richy and work at the homewood suites on 19

  • Is that the new hotel?

  • it opened last may. the auditor for the place claims the hotel is in the 'red' and most likley never going to get out of that status...i get a sense that this place is already failing and will not last.

  • Thanks for the information.

I can't believe they built that hotel along with the one across the street.

I know a manager at Days Inn and she was telling me in early '08 that her hotel and the Holiday Inn across the street were both struggling.

Up until '07 the Days Inn was the only big hotel near the mall. Now there's three with the fourth set to open in a few weeks. The area is way too overhoteled!

    Take care,

    John

  • That target was a joke run by a bunch of clowns! It was either young kids who don't want to work or old people who could barely function I used to unload trucks with a guy who was seventy! They didn't give a shit as long as it got done! Then there was that one wacko who gave birth and threw the baby in the garbage! Who the fuck hires theses people! What kind of management staff did they have! Omg you should have seen the seasonal help they hired well what do you expect? 7 bucks an hour!

  • Albertsons is gone right? What is it now? Is freds still there? Outback? Olive garden? Dillards and macys won't survive! Start playing taps its over new port richey

  • Fred's has been gone for close to a year. Albertson's was taken over by Publix. Outback is gone. Olive Garden is still here though.

  • Hey what else is due to close in port richey? They should start a charity for the town make a song we are port richey we have no jobs! Have a fundraiser on tv! What a sad town its become! Do you really think those target managers give a shit about the 85 workers? Please its all a show at least they had a good spokesperson tiger woods oh wait is there a white girl around lol!

  • There's a rumor that Dillards and/or Macy's will be leaving the mall before the end of the summer.

  • Lone star hops target old navy the gap music land camelot montgomery ward hotels motels who is next? Gulf view mall is what about 60 percent empty!I knew one target worker she screwed a manager in the parking lot he got fired the best part her husband steve came to work at the store! Man how we laughed behind his back! Her name was christina jacoby

  • The mall is about 90% occupied. However I've heard from several sources that the majority of the malls tenants are months behind on their rent.

  • Its really a shame that guy mike who ran that target into the ground will find work somewhere in the company while the 85 out of work employees will be eating cat food for dinner! Its all about ceos and how much more money they can make all these store managers are full of shit! Mike was a loser out of college this will look good on his resume! I worked there with the rednecks! I once caught the backroom manager shopping at walmart! Nothing like supporting your employer!

  • John Port RIchey is going down :( there is a shortfall in the Pasco County buget no one is talking about, expect more to come, once the County starts the lay offs, it is really going to hit the fan!

  • @ bohemianh

Someone who works for the county told me that the 2011 fiscal year budget shortfall will be $80,000,000.

With a shortfall that large the county will have to lay off at least 50% of all its employees.

A layoff of that size would be catastrophic for the county's economy!

  • When I worked there this was a pay increase I was getting an extra dollar an hour shift rate so they took fifty cents from that and put it in my base pay and called it a raise! One word karma!!

  • Why do you still live there? Married? Get out while you can! Pretty soon there will be tumbleweeds flying around! What's your job overthere? Been by chicago avenue? Lol

  • Someone has to document what's going on here. :o)

  • What is the unemployment rate over there? 9 out of 10? Did you ever drive around chicago avenue? Omg people sit around there trailers eating chef boyrdee out of the can! With their cars up on crates on the front lawn! Its true I've seen it! A sad sad group of people!

  • I think Pasco's official unemployment rate is around 13.5%. Personally I think it's like 30% here.

  • new port richey what the hell happened there?all you got left are empty strip malls welfare recipients and now 85 unemployed target workers maybe angelina jolie will adopt you all and take care of you oh wait your probably white and from america!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think they'll be having a "We Are The World Concert" fundraiser for Port Richey any time soon.

    -John

  • Pasco is too white for that!

  • That store was doing alright up to 2006 then it all went downhill they had hardly no full time workers everyone worked 15 20 hours a week they stories I could tell you

  • I believe it.

I worked in retail for a few years and I know the games the big box stores play with their employees.

What other negative experiences did you have while working for the store?

  • I used to work there years ago I knew michelle penny bonnie mike the manager Gretchen meet anyone with those names?

  • Penny sounds awfully familiar.

  • Did you know any of the target workers?

  • I talked to a few of them a few weeks before the store closed, but I didn't know any of them personally.

  • Use to came by with my wife awile ago its like we never lived there! Wal mart is destroying many towns and jobs.that service merchandise has been empty for about 15 years! Houses are worth nothing over there! Are you lucky enough to have a job in that dying town I hope?

  • Thanks for getting back to me.

The Service Merchandise closed sometime around the middle of '99. My friend's wife worked at the store until it closed.

The amount of foreclosures here are destroying the area. A lot of 'productive people' have moved out of Pasco over the last three years and a lot of unproductive (welfare recipients) have moved in.

It's sad really because this used to be a great place to live.

  • Port richey is now filled with hillbillys and welfare recipients where are they gonna shop if all the stores are going out of business?

  • Do you live in the area? I actually live in Hudson.

    Take care,

    John

  • This store was never run properly a lot of florida retards with no work ethic paying partime no health insurance workers 7 bucks an hour! Between that and the economy that equals one thing FAILURE!

  • Agriculture is going to make a big comeback.

Read my article about wild edibles in the details section of this video.

  • Hey John I really like the thorough and professional way you report. Your one of my favorite youtubers. Keep up the good work!

  • I appreciate the complement. Thank you very much for it.

Be sure to buy the book I show at the end of the video, it's well worth the price. You can get off Amazon for about $15 with the shipping.

    Take care,

    John

  • If you honestly think a business can sustain itself in this location, then I strongly suggest you use your business acumen to do your community a favor and start it up.

    Target closed - sob!

The media won't cover it - sob!

Stop whining because other people aren't doing what you want them to do. Put your money where your mouth is, or else you're just a squeaky part of the problem.

  • @ duncanhunter2008

What type of businesses do you suggest to get into?

  • AIG is just one of many parasitic organizations in the US.

  • Good analogy!

    Take care,

    John

  • At this rate, many places will seem like ghost towns, with only the wild running around like parts of Detroit!

  • Coming to a town near you.

    Take care,

    John

  • Great job. Thanks for your videos. Here in Barcelona Spain the situation is very similar.

This is going to crash very quickly. Please keep sharing informations. It is very important to know how are things really going

  • Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked the video.

    Take care,

    John

  • A Target manager named Michael says he was told he was one of 8,000 full-time specialists and team leaders who would be demoted to part-time. Understandably bitter, he says Target is cutting cost at the probable expense of customer service. he email went on to say that HR will receive another email within 3-4 months directing stores to reduce current specialist hours to below 32 hours a week. The company wants to get all the current specs in the company OFF the full time benefits plans

  • @ jocknomore

This economy has victimized tens of millions of people and it isn't done yet.

    Take care,

    John

  • A few weeks back a member of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce told me the Staples and Toys R Us in that plaza were going to close before June.

If those two big box stores leave that will put the plaza at a 92% vacancy ratio.

  • That would devastate the plaza. As it stands now the strip mall is over 65% vacant.

  • No reason for staples and toys r us to stay there with all the other shops leaving.

  • I think this is your best subject that you cover John. You really do a good job on the economic crisis were in. Target just opened a super center here in Highlands Ranch, CO and it seems to be doing good. I think Target moves out of older stores and opens brand new ones. Can't believe what's happening to Florida. All the best Mike

  • Thank you Mike.

I can tell you that there are a lot less snowbirds here than what there was last season. We used to get a ton of pensioners from Michigan but this year we've had a lot less.

    Take care,

    John

  • @john, bohemianh, What really hurts; the anouncement this morning , 100 million in bonuses to AIG employees, while so many people are suffering, and are left financially destitute. How can the US tax payer give 180 billion bailout and justify 100 million preformance bonus? Kenneth Feinberg," it's legal."

  • Feinberg is a moneychanger!

  • Is PR a 30- 45 min drive to Tampa; making it a suburb?Have you or can you talk to any of the former employees?Absolutely nothing is being shown about Florida's deterioating economy by MSM in TO. Canada. Radio and tv keep talking about recovery starting, in the US.

  • @ rhnegquest

Hopefully one of the former employees of this Target will see this video and contact me. I'd be more than willing to do an interview with them.

Port Richey is about 50 minutes from downtown Tampa.

The economy here is deteriorating very rapidly. I know a lot of people in this area and nearly all of them have been wiped out financially.

    Take care,

    John

  • use local stores when ever possible... don't shop at the big chains... they gives shit about your local jobs... nuff said...

  • @ svinehunden

Absolutely! Be sure to buy the book I show at the end of this video.

    Thanks for watching.

    -John

  • @ svinehunden

I read the book that John showed at the end of the video, it's a great read, be sure to get it.

  • i don't believe the world is crashing... only usa! china will become the new super power... i'm NOT hoping this but i think it will happen very soon...

  • @svinehunden . I' am not the sharpest tool in the shed, however China has a huge portion of it's foreign reserves in US dollars, perhaps as much as, or higher than 2 trillion, a huge trade imbalance with the US, last year, around 270 billion, A 7 to 1 artificial currency peg, advantage. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link. If China's biggest customer goes into default, it will agravate the already 30 million unemployed in China.

  • China can crash the us dollar at will, just flood the market with already devalued dollars, it will all crash usa will be next USSR, how appropriate we have the right fool in the white house to make it happen!

  • your right I was speaking with some Canadians this morning at the gym, Quebec economy is doing great! may have to do with Canada only has a few banks, while usa has thousands!

  • @bohemianh Our banks are backed by our central bank owned by Canadians. Sadly since 1974 our puppet government has been borrowing from big business instead of using the low interest from our own bank.

Right on about Walmart. Our society is supposed to all this choice. Sadly reality hits and its just one corporate winner.

  • So , choosing WalMart isn't actually a choice?

WalMart wouldn't be the behemoth it is without big government.

  • The choice of Walmart means someone loses out. Usually the mom and pop stores go first then they work on the larger retailers. Soon you have no choice whatsoever.

Walmart lobby's the government (Big or small) for it's own interests (which is profit) and doesn't care about what social harm it creates.

Instead of mom and pop making a healthy living and contributing to the community, you end up with a bunch of minimum wage workers only barely able to support themselves.

  • very true, they destroy small businesses, Walmart does this everywhere it goes!

  • What was ll this land before the stores where built? Farmland?

  • @ 2012HolyRomanEmpire

I've lived in this area all my life and the plaza was built sometime in the late 80's. Prior to that it was swamp/estuary land.

    Take care,

    John

  • I actually like Target more than the other stores. Target is cheaper; and it's a myth that everything in Target is also made in China. I buy everything there that is made in the USA. Just check the labels carefully. I only buy toiletries and things like that from Target as these tend to be more expensive in grocery stores or drug stores.

  • Target sells at least 80% imported merchandise from Asia. All their shoes, clothing,They also pay less then Walmart, have fired over 8000 employees just within the last few months, and demoted numerous hundreds of Specialist employees just within the last 2 days.. All for the name of profit. Don't be so proud of Target. At least Walmart doesn't try to hide behind their image.

  • @ randomqwerty123987

The retail chains are getting desperate. I think the crash that we've all been waiting years for is upon us.

    Take care,

    John

  • Bucknife prices will likely see inflation in that area at the mom and pops. While a sad loss for some, being it's a great store that had cool designs...another local is secretly cheering about it as their business regains some value to the community. :)

  • Port Richey won't lose any money. They will just put in more Red Light Cameras. The City gets to keep 66% of the fines...What a deal. Why don't you look into that! Worry about your government taking away more of your liberties. Not some store with a crappy Anti-Santa/Christmas,Anti-Salvation Army store policy. Hell, they wouldn't even let the Girl Scouts sell cookies out front. Yea, great community asset.

  • Are they still anti christmas?

  • The Red Light cameras can only do so much!

    Take care,

    John

  • Not sure how many stores like that were in Port Richey, but wouldn't market forces eventually catch up to these corporate schemes anyways?

How many Wal-Marts, K-Marts, Target, Fred Meyers, Walgreens, Rite-Aids, Dollar Generals, Dollar Stores, Home Depot, Lowe's, ect.. can a city support?

Here in Tacoma, Washington we have replica giants galore. With the economy coming back to reality, it has to it was inflated, these types of stores will suffer. but so will jobs.

  • @ curiouschem

There are way too many big box stores for Port Richey to support, that much is for sure.

  • Where is Port Richey?

  • It's about 25 miles north of Clearwater, Florida.

    Thanks for watching.

    -John

  • Be sure to read my article on wild edibles in this video's details section.

    You'll be glad you did!!!

  • Yes it is very surprising what you can eat in this state that grows like mad, including kudzu

  • Now i know for a fact that target just back in 07 was making major money, enough to open 5 major automated warehouses across the country, i know because i worked at the one in lake city. There plan got canned in 08 and only 2 and 1/2 are opened, and with these stores closing are just the sign of how far and how fast something can fall in just 3 years...

  • Things are deteriorating quickly that much is for sure!

    Thanks for watching!

    -John

  • Good bye big box stores . hello family owned business.

  • @ godseyeview

That is the single biggest benefit to the ongoing retail crash. Be sure to buy the book I show at the end of the video. You'll thank me later, trust me!

    Take care,

    John

  • So what kind of stores could take its place?

  • @ skyding8962

Flea markets and street side vendors are going to take their place in a lot of cases. We'll also see a lot of Bazaars.

  • We have a lot of those in LA these days. What's funny is if you drive down Los Feliz Blvd, you'll see 3 blocks of cars for sale on the North side. It's been quite the popular spot for parking a car and putting for sale signs for the heavy traffic to see. Haven't driven by there in a couple months, but assuming it's still a problem. The LFIA is trying to address it. It's disgusting to see.

    google: LFIA cars for sale

  • Bicycling is going to make a big comeback!

  • @johnu78 - Seems so. I wonder what lenders will start to do with autoloan repos. My guess, they'll start going in for the kill on the problem people sooner. My friend said he's been getting repo threats from his lender, whereas he used to get away with stretching out the late payments.

I noticed Tmobile will cut off my cel phone asap the bill is late. I've been a good customer for years but would pay the late fee lately. But they know I won't do it anymore, got me by the balls.

  • @ judutchinski

Dump your cellphone service and get a prepaid phone. As long as you can keep your monthly minutes under 300 then you'll get ahead.

    Take care,

    John

  • It's nice to have people like yourself trying hard to warn others of what's coming. By the way, it would be nice to see the inside of that store with all the deserted racks and empty shelves.

  • Thank you.

If I could have gotten into it legally I would have.

    Take care,

    John

  • good god!

  • It's getting scary out there.

  • CNN, Faux, CBS, ABC and NBC for example have advertisers that depend on consumption. These so called news outlets find it in their best interests also to promote consumption. What John reports, the stuff that should be reported, goes against their interests. Should more sheeple wake up, they will cut back even more on spending.

  • I'm really hoping people buy the book that I show at the end of the video. It'll do wonders to help them improve their situation.

    Take care,

    John

  • go to shadowstats d c and look at the recreated M3 money chart, money supply in the economy is drying up. We are under serious tidal force of deflation. U6 unemployment numbers are 22 percent now and things are just gettiing started. The businesses you see closing now is just the beginning trickle, you ain't seen nothing yet...

  • Shadowstats is a great website!

    Thanks for watching.

    -John

  • It's a tough deal that more people are out of work.

  • Yes, it's a significant blow to this area.

    Take care,

    John

  • Great video report!

You should get a job for CNN.

  • bohemian, I agree. John would be a great reporter for CNN. The problem would be they would not let John report the stories that he likes to report.

  • Thank you both for the complements.

    Sincerely,

    John
