I just thought I'd share my megalopolis story. After several failed attempts (Aumsville, Origami, Sirius, and Tulipa), I wasn't going to let the city of Yoshi join the list of failed "forever a metropolis" cities. It wasn't looking good, either, because I had 430,000 people and was running out of space. I was desperate, so I had to resort to zone stacking. Slowly but surely, the population increased, and the city of Yoshi has peaked at 523,000. I still have a little room to spare, too. Yes, I u
Ive got 700,000 with zone stacking...but without cheating (It says in the manual you CAN zone stack) with every zone connected with one another without using debug mode like you have.
this is an emulator hack or something. the railways are built on water, which leads me to believe you had an all water map, and used unlimited landfills and gifts to raise land value. the sad thing is, you still didn't break a million.
@Kwasi5179 no game genie required, go to the load save menu, choose quit, on the goodbye screen put in this code on the second controler:
left a right y up b down x select start start select r r l l
this will bring up the debugging screen and u can set it so you can delete areas that have water into regular land. remember to change the bottom option (memory) to set using the d pad, then press b, and reset the snes. u can turn any map into a no water map.
Low-level residential zones have only houses on them. Once one side completely fills with houses, bulldoze the houses and you can build a zone on top of where the houses used to be. Now you can bulldoze the center of the residential zone to remove one side of the zone you just built. This is well used on utilities like power plants or airports to reduce their size but not their influence.
debug mode - on controller two, after choosing " end game " option, hit left, a, right, y, up, b, down, x, L, R,R,L, se, st, st, se ... i think. Bulldoze WATER!!!
I think I see what you mean. His zones are all built next to underwater rail tunnels, and the single-tile up-down 'rivers' are too convenient to be coincidental (remember that water = improved land value).
emulators dont give cheats...but you can put cheats on them but its really hard to do. i have an emulator and they don't give pre-made cities either...
My only answer, to his magician-like " I don't tell secrets ", like if he dies with the programming secrets, he'll be like AbraCadabra, is that he built rails over floods, after creating floods purposely. The water raises land value, so he used the million dollar cheat code, built zones into the correct pattern, initiated floods, coerced the water, built gifts next to industry to lower pollution, raise land value, etc.. but I still can't figure out how the fuck he go rid of water.
It's quite painfully obvious that you hacked this city. All of your railroads are going through water, meaning you hacked all of your land (or used Debug, at the very least) so all of your property would be waterfront.
What's so painful about it? Yes, I created all the Game Genie codes to hack the game. Specifically, when you build railroad, it actually builds railroad over water. This land is actually map 061. I hacked the game for unlimited landfills, until all the water was built over, then took the procedures to painstakingly create everything else. Took quite a while.
I had the feeling you used the unlimited refill, but I wasn't sure how in the world you got the water in the rigth place....Flooding it purposly, of course!!!
@CaptainArcaus This is yet another example of a youtube user using misleading titles / descriptions. He didn't stack hack.....but using cheat codes is acceptable! Go figure.
Zone stacking, as the name implies, is a technique of building a zone within the bounds of an existing zone. This effectively cheats the system into thinking that two full zone's exist even though the original has been reduced in size. This is commonly done by recovering a zone from a fire and building on top of its missing components.
He's dropped to 4% industrial from a previously higher value. Once the education value of your citizens is high, commercial zones rise in demand and industry drops.
There is a map without water in the scenarios if you played through the 6 regular ones. Only people who never really played sim city through won't know this ;)
I'm trying to reach the 500000 on map 61, but somehow i got problems. How an it be, that you have so few factories? i have more than you and still huge unemployment. Do commercial zones also decrease unemployment? If you have any basic tips, i would apprecaiate this :)
It's strange. Assessed value is only 13 million (which is relatively cheap for a city of that size;) "megalopolis" is spelled "megaropolis", net migration of last year is zero, and the pattern of areas with maximum land value don't match the pattern of different zones or their sizes or the water/railroads. That would be cool if after the population reaches 1,000,000 the category changes, the music, etc. Does ? = LAND? Do the codes prevent people from leaving but not entering? A googolplex stars!
Thanks, I've learned that R's are much more sensitive for degrading than C's (part of the reason population remains the same). I've officially discovered many beneficial gg codes for this game, considering my fascination with hex to bin programming. Have any cool cities you wanna share??

...WOW! I couldn't even beat this with all of my cities put together (2 at one time, one has about 100k, other about 40k. deleted my 300k accidentally). put up a vid about your 1M city!
Yeah it is easier to achieve + 500K on non-freedom level from what i have heard. you dont get ANY bonuses on freedom....unless someone can tell me how!
This is definitely the top city i have ever seen!! nice work.
That...is...insane! All I can say is very well done, my record is around the 580,000 mark. A mere mortal figure as apposed to over 1,000,000!! 5 stars!
Incredible city! I can't even imagine the effort that went into doing this. You are the undisputed Ruler of Sim City! I'd keep the codes secret... at least for a while, or until someone offers to buy you a ticket on Virgin Galactic.
wow 950K no zone stacking thats definitely impressive i finally got past 500K my record now is about 555K no zone stacking no cheats minus the money cheat of course and on map 061 i also dare someone to beat 950 id like to see it
