Amazing. This performance could've happened 5 years later and no one would've batted an eye. But in 1987 this was a true rarity among all the Randy Rhoads impersonators.
@hypersquared i dont think her staff had anything to do it - as joan had mentioned in the interview, they had just signed with warner bros records... this was a case of warner bros asking for (or collecting on) a favor from the show's producers. a major label is going to leverage their industry contacts to market you as best they can.. joan's staff probably did choose the two other guests "coming up next" on the show - an 85-yr-old marathon runner and actor ian mckellan...
Such a kick ass band that i hold very dear to me, but god they look ridiculous in this clip. Mould is the only one who looks half normal, Grants shirt and trouser combiation is something else alright, and Greg....yeah, it takes a certain individual with the balls to grow that moustache.
Still though, those were better days for all the above reasons.
that's what punk rock looked like before MTV got its mitts on it and turned it into another fashion horse! nothing is more punk rock than Greg's handlebar moustache and white sneakers amidst a sea of mohawks and shaved heads and leather biker jackets and doc martins
They should have done some tracks from LAND SPEED RECORD that would have killed the audience. Would have been nice if Joan got the title of the song right:)
Joan actually asked some pretty good questions, props to her writers. I liked how Bob said as you get older "its not just screaming about how messed up the government is and that you hate your parents" anymore. Amen to that!
I usually believe what my eyes and ears tell me. Joan Rivers saying the words "Warehouse: Songs and Stories" is such a violent non-sequitur that my brain cannot make sense of it any more than it could if Sasquatch knocked on my door and asked me if I wanted to learn about Jehovah's Witnesses.
In my semi-vast and unorganized collection there is footage of the Huskers on the Today Show from this same time. Bryant Gumble (sp?) interviews Mould before "Could You Be The One". Right as Mould takes the solo he must notice the cameras ready to cut away because he shoots this look at Gumble that could melt ice. Tense. The band didn't look too happy to be playing in the cool Minneapolis spring morning, but it's as good as this clip.
The name of the game is spelled with macrons to emulate Scandinavian letters with macrons over them (even if macrons are only used in hand-written text). The game was also the source of the name of the US punk rock band Hüsker Dü, replacing the macrons with umlauts (maybe inspired by other heavy metal umlauts).
Hūsker Dū? is a young children's memory game originally published in Sweden in the 1950s, which is still in print. Without macrons, the name means "Do you remember?" in Danish and Norwegian.
.. but Hüsker Dü isn't Danish. It's Norwegian and Swedish. Danish however, doesn't have umlauts. Weird they don't even know the language of their own band name.
But this is a great clip. I'd wish there were some videos from their Zen Arcade or New Day Rising years.

Grant is such a fascinating character and let me explain:
Did he steal Seinfeld's jacket?
Did his nose get broke by a white supremacist flung chair?
At-il un tickler très large?
Did he find a Rock Lobster?

This was recorded at Fox Studios, Hollywood, CA
On 4/27/87 they also performed "She's A Woman (And Now He Is A Man)" after the interview segmant.
Possibly the most cringe-worthy interviews ever!
There seems to be a language barrier yet the two parties'primary language is English!
Playing to a better medley ?!?
Joan is the worst.
