This is, unfortunately, not actually the Fox News that characteristically pulls boneheaded stories like this - although one could understand the confusion.
Local affiliates are actually administered by parties separate from Roger Ailes. So this, in other words, is just a lazy god damn local reporter, most likely from commuter university and maybe a 1-year stint as a back-up weather lass in Snail Anus, North Dakota.
And people actually lament the inevitable death of television news? Shit.
This is so wrong DC! What have you guys done?! I can understand the darkness, but what's with the all this fornication and adultery! They shouldn't be for kids or anywhere for kids!
@JakePudinheimer The new 52s were not meant for kids to begin with. They were targeting the older audience past the age of 18. FOX has a habit of not giving you ALL of the information.

This news report just shows me exactly what is wrong with media. So they have a few points and they try so hard to create a big stink out of nothing. The bottom line is parents need to stop trying to avail themselves of their responsibilities, ie. TO PARENT. You should know what your children are doing dont blame these comics for your own neglect. DC comics dont go to schools and give away free comics, someone has to buy it. Think about that.
@MrKlukon Well, since Fox News is mostly popular with old people, I'm wouldn't be surprised. hollywoodreporter(.)com/blogs/live-feed/fox-news-oldest-cable-audience-54230
@BaldSpaceMarine I thought it was that they believed that exposure to graphic violence and sex at a young age can encourage aggression. But there's a simple solution to that; DON'T GIVE LITTLE KIDS COMIC BOOKS FOR TEENS AND ADULTS! Hell, they even say that in the report! Thank you, Captain Obvious!
I love how Fox showed the cut off head instead of censoring it.
Also LOL at them saying "he's comics were never like this when he was little". Are you shitting me? Batman killed all the time in his comics back in the 30s. The whole "I won't kill anyone" Batman came much, much later when every other comic book started letting their hero's kill ironically.
God only knows what would happen if say an R rated anime movie were ever shown in theaters in the states. We'd never hear the end of how "it's a cartoon with death" and "all cartoons are for kids so the fact they made one for adults is disgusting" and how these "anymaze" is "destroying our youth by making them think in gray instead of simple black&white".
@TheMountainMew God help us all if an R rated anime movie is ever released nation wide in theaters here in the U.S. and Fox gets wind of it. We'd never here the end of it. >_<

@Thrawn815 I find it interesting that you point that out, considering that I'm a socialist myself, though I'm against the way it was practiced in the Soviet Union and I'm not one to praise tyrants regardless of their political ideology. I believe wholeheartedly in social liberalism and democracy. And yes, I like my comic books and video games and stuff like that too.
Ever read V for Vendetta? Quite fitting in regards to Fox News IMHO.
@CrazyCheeseMagee I've read V for Vendetta, funny you bring it up. because that is one of the best examples to use when trying to prove to clowns like the people in this video that comics are a mature form of art.
@DARTHPIZZAROLL I mean more along the lines of the threat of reactionaries taking hold of government. V for Vendetta is about the UK becoming a fascist dictatorship and V smashing the system and bringing back democracy.
Like the Nobel Prize winning writer Sinclair Lewis famously said, "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."
Ugh, for fucks sake. If you think these comics were ever even aimed at kids beforehand, or that darker comic books are a new thing, then you don't know what you're talking about. Comic book characters such as Batman or Catwoman are portrayed by thousands of different artists and each one caters to their own demographic. There's some kids Batman and then more explicit comics, aimed at young adults, generally sold in places kids don't even go anyway. They aren't kids comics.
another crappy arguement by fox news no ooffense to fox news fans but catwoman is one of bruce's love intrests did they honestly think they would never do it cuz it was bound to happen eventually and after 71 years it finally did and its about time to
In fact, comic books slowly started to lose their "kid-friendliness" after the 1950s-1960s era. They were FORCED to be kid-friendly by the govt after the Fredric Wertham fiasco.Stan Lee helped tame down the Comics Code Authority after his 1971 drug-abuse storyarc in the Spider-Man titles and from then on,the comics began to gradually get more and more freedom to be more graphic in terms of content and dealing with more mature themes.
The only thing I really agree with is that the female characters are grotesquely objectified and it's definitely a misrepresentation of reality and sends young girls the wrong message about body image as well as young men with the Mr. Universe-like images. But that's it. I also love how NO ONE likes this story.
@munkymp3 I have gotten a few comments stating that because this is a local news story, one shouldn't be concerned with it and that because it's an affiliate of Fox, it's not actually affiliated with Fox. (LOLWUT?)
For Fuck's sake people it isn't FOX. If you fucking pay attention, which I know is hard a lot of you. You'd notice the FOX 5 on the bottom the screen. What that means class, is it's the LOCAL Wash. DC affiliate station. Which is where people in DC watch "right wing propaganda" such as Family Guy, & the Simpsons etc. But rather than pay attention or use critical thinking skills(which few people under the age of 30 have anyway)you just default to "FOX bad"
@mothafraker Completely ignoring the fact that this report fails as a piece of journalism, with irrelevant information (why a child psychologist when disscussing material for OLDER audeinces), contradictions and exaggeration. Doesn't matter if it came from one FOX or another, it's still an abortion of journalism and basic logic.
@SavageBroadcast I'm not disagreeing that the story is nonsensical garbage. All I'm saying is that this isn't FOX News. These affiliate stations are affiliated with FOX Entertainment which is a different division than FOX News. Comics really haven't been aimed at children for awhile now,and the story failed to point that out. It's culture thing really. Most people here in America hear about comics/anime and assume it's for kids.
"It's lucky there was no sex and violence in comics before this horrible reboot... ah, what's this? A copy of Watchmen, you say? Never heard of it. How do they expect an eight-year-old to read a book this big?"

If you don't want your kid reading something, here's the simple solution: Don't let them read it. Is it honestly that hard to figure out? Because after seeing previous reports on Fox News, I've lost faith in most of today's parents.
@SmugleafCarriesOn Actually, I uploaded this just so I could download it again. JustASpaceCowboy requested this as a commentary subject. Obviously Fox News never heard of the E.C. comics from the 40s and 50s pre-Comics Code Authority. Now THERE'S some brutal stuff. (Actually, Golden Age comic books were like that in general from what I've seen.)
@CrazyCheeseMagee I'd love to see Fox News faces if they saw the Tijuana Bibles of the 1930s XD
Also, gotta love how they bring up Starfire from Teen Titans as an example of "deceptive marketing" to kids in comparison to the comic books. Never mind the fact that Teen Titans WAS intended for a much younger audience than the comic in question (That and Starfires age is radically different between the two) They may as well compare Hanna Barbera Batman to BTAS while they're at it.
@rptheory Tijuana Bibles, the Rule 34 of the pre-internet era. And I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were quote-mining the Neil Bernstein interview segments. Those awkward jump-cuts, coupled with Fox News being notorious for quote-mining, seem to imply that they could've done such a thing.
I also love how they trot out the word "experts" (plural) when they only used one authority figure to prove their point, Neil Bernstein.
@CHCHuser Linkara will probably be upset but not give it so much thought. He certainly doesn't for Sonichu. Me, I can't help but be reminded of Frederick Wertham, the Jack Thompson of comic books. Google it.
@CrazyCheeseMagee But companies want to censor the internet because they want to be the right ones. If we say that a product is bad or that someone from the news is wrong, they silence us. Why? Because they can. Yes SOPA may have been shelved, but it will return.
@CHCHuser The internet is a threat to the corporations. It's us vs. the corporations.
This song explains it well. It's about organizing labor, but it can apply to organization against threats to freedom and democracy as well. watch?v=kYiKdJoSsb8

Darn it Fox, stop trying to shield me from reality, I'm offended (even though I don't read comics) MUST MAKE A COMMENTARY ON IT NOW!!!
SmugleafCarriesOn 1 month ago

I hate fox news. they honestly whine about our comics being dark? they do know these were intended for a older audince?

@supercharmander1 Also look at the stuff Fox has on its network. Let's just say it's not particularly appropriate for little kids. IRONY!

What will Linkara say or think? What do you say or think?
I like innocent and cute Starfire better than skanky sexual Starfire.

@CHCHuser Linkara will probably be upset but not give it so much thought. He certainly doesn't for Sonichu. Me, I can't help but be reminded of Frederick Wertham, the Jack Thompson of comic books. Google it.

@CrazyCheeseMagee Hmmmm that is bad. They'll probably send comics back to the silver age.
CHCHuser 1 month ago
@CHCHuser Or not. Things are different now that we have the internet to voice our complaints to the world.
CrazyCheeseMagee 1 month ago
@CrazyCheeseMagee But companies want to censor the internet because they want to be the right ones. If we say that a product is bad or that someone from the news is wrong, they silence us. Why? Because they can. Yes SOPA may have been shelved, but it will return.

@CHCHuser The internet is a threat to the corporations. It's us vs. the corporations.
This song explains it well. It's about organizing labor, but it can apply to organization against threats to freedom and democracy as well. watch?v=kYiKdJoSsb8
