i've had it in for 3 years now and it's still running strong and i drive my car pretty hard (including taking it to the track periodically). it revs a little bit higher in the city but it locks at 50mph so it doesn't lose any fuel economy at all on the highway. just make sure you get a tranny oil cooler and it'll keep your engine and tranny temperatures lower, b&m makes one for like 60 bucks.
by the way my car has 142k miles on it now and haven't had a single engine or tranny problem :)
@98BlackTransAm I've had mine for 10 years and 177k miles on it and no engine or transmission problem what so ever, and still runs strong and smooth. check out a small video on my channel
How long have you had that stall in there?Have you had anything break yet? Does the stall make it feel like the engine and tranny are taking a beating?
I want a stall but im afraid of how its gonna drive on the street and how much its going to beat on engine, tranny, and stock 10 bolt.
hey i have a mostly stock 98 TA and i was lookin into a stall converter...its mostly stock right now but i am about to get longtube headers with an offroad y pipe to the slp loudmouth so im not sure what size stall i should go with.... the most i drive it every day is about 10 miles and we go to the track often but im in the high 13's all day and cant break lower lol
i have lt's and an ory pipe now,, but the most noticeable mod i did was definitely the converter. everyone i've talked to that has less than 3200 wishes they had gone bigger, so i'd say anywhere from 3200 to 3600 would be great for a daily driver/track car. i only lost about 1-2 mpg in the city and you lose no fuel economy on the highway once the converter locks. lts + ory + a stall and some tires that can hook and i guarantee you'll be running 12.9x's at worst.
I believe the car is capable of High 13's with traction. I ran a 14.342 in the past with severe wheel spin all the way through 1st gear. I've only tried to run on my slicks once, but carb problems kept me in the 15's all day :( I've since fixed the carb problems, but now winter is here and the tracks are closed.
well sir, this video is like 2 years old....and since then i've added longtube headers, an off-road y-pipe, ls6 intake manifold, ud pulley, 3.73 gears, and had it dyno-tuned. 2 weekends ago i ran a 12.39 @ 110 on some nitto DR's....not bad for a daily driver huh?
ws6's only have about 5rwhp more than the base model TA, and they cost $3k more...not to mention 16" wheels are better than the ws6's 17's at the track. with the stuff i have done to my car now i run a 12.48 @ 109 and destroy stock ws6's so it doesn't matter :)

Your car is "capable" of more than you know. Trust me.

ahhh yes, with the 3.73 gears I can understand the stall. I run 3.55's with about 2500 stall, but I only make about 350hp at the crank.
a 12second daily drive.r. VERY NICE. .that's what I'm aiming for myself eventually.
remember tho, my car is 4,020 lbs with me in it.. I have a slight weight disadvantage :P~

sounds like your car would def be capable of 12's with a little more work,, what are you runnin now low 13s?
i'd like to do a head/cam swap and ideally push my car into the 11's, but i can't afford the gas to do it right now lol

why so much stall for such a mild engine?
'some bolt ons' we'll call that basicly stock...
