The Crown jewels are not used fore this ceremony and are only used as a symbol when a new King/Queen are inaugurated. In the Netherlands the new head of state are not crowned as in Great Britain. But invested. The Crown Jewels are just symbolic.
Yes, Beatrix wears sometimes tiaras. Mostly at state visits and formal happenings. But a tiara is not a crown jewel. It's just a piece of jewellery, owned by the Family of Oranje-Nassau (the Dutch Royal Family). They have various tiara's and other jewellery.
It is not ridiculous. It shows a different understanding of the symbolic value of the crown. The monarchy in the UK is ancient and values the continuity of tradition, especially when it illuminates the constitution of the state, as the monarch's appearance in Parliament does.
@Knappa22 Dutch monarchs never wear crowns. We have a crown but it's a modest thing because it's improvised after Napoleon was defeated and the son of the former stadhouder (somesort of president) of the Dutch Republic was pronounced king. When the Dutch queen or king is crown, the won't crown him with a crown because the continuity is assured in the constitution. The crown and scepter are just symbols lieing on a pillow.
@GulleGelderlander To add, fore the Dutch constitution there is no such title as Queen only King. It don't matter if the King is a man or female. They are by constitution King. The Dutch ceremony is named a inauguration and a pure straight forward sober happening. By the combined sitting of the parliament and the senate.
@Maasdam1993 Yes, true. I was actually wrong when I said that the queen is coronated. Indeed we just inaugurate the king at a meeting of the parliament. The constitution only speaks about 'the king'. The constitution is quite vague. Only one article says that Amsterdam is the capital. Art. 32: '...beëdigd en ingehuldigd in de hoofdstad Amsterdam/the king will be sown in and inaugurated in the capital Amsterdam...'. The constituion is clear, though not very extensive.

Leuk om dit te zien zeg. Ik wou dat Juliana eeuwig had geleefd. Fantastische vrouw! Beatrix ziet er trouwens ook mooi uit.

Yes - far more sensible. Our Queen wears a massive crown on her head every time she opens parliament - looks ridiculous.
I have seen Queen Beatrix wear a tiara though - at the wedding of the Crown Prince, in Denmark.

I think still think it looks ridiculous. The coronation crown in particular is very heavy also.
