the band on coke, ETOH, heroin, pills (upper/downer) possible lsd but still put a satisfactory performance any band today would kill for or could live up to. i see where the old GNR got the sound and behaviors from a mixture of zepplin and stones
i like grams version way better it had more drama and was smoother. wish he were still alive so he can show mick how to sing this song live with all do respect to mick the legend
They are wasted here ! But they sound so beautiful ! When ronnie and Keith come to Jagger for sing it's just amazing .... Greatest rock'n roll song even without a lead guitar
I agree I saw them in 1976 Performing in Frankfurt, Germany at the festhalle. It took me awhile to recover from this awesome Concert. I was stationed in Darmstadt and I rode the train up there even that was a blast.
I had a 7 foot poster hanging in my room as a kid that was a snapshot of the three of them singing a the mic. Took me until now to see which tour / song it was
Awful- especially the bridge. They completely started playing a different song. The Wild Horses from 1975 Knebworth is the best. Perfect and yet a bit ragged.
@dannyd1572 Yes, you are correct Absolutely fucking awful. As you say, the middle 8 is from a different song - fuck knows which one though. What a terrible attempt. I genuinely believe that Ron Wood ruined this band.
@broadband0118 I'd like to say that since my favorite period is from the Mick Taylor years- Those are my favorite albums. Then again, I like stuff during Ronnie Woods time with them. How can you not. THen again Mick and Keith said that they weren't getting along during Dirty Work and its pretty much a Ronnie Wood album (think he had 5 songwriting credits on it), and that album really sucks with the exception of one or two songs.
@dannyd1572 Dirty Work? I wouldn't wipe my arse with it. I can't think of anything with Wood apart from maybe 'Some Girls' which is worth listening to. His playing down the years has clearly been affected by his chronic alcoholism, but even allowing for that, in hindsight, he was a terrible choice as replacement for Taylor.
@broadband0118 True. But like Keith says, Ronnie has been a Catalyst between him and Mick and has basically brought them together everytime they have fought. He could have helped save the band many times.
@dannyd1572 Mmm, possibly but saved them for what? To be a sad parody of what they used to be? I last saw them in 2003 at Wembley and they were pretty dire. The only time they shone was playing 'Little Red Rooster' when they really did return to their roots. Conversley, they attempted 'Honky Tonk Women' with back up singers galore including Blondie Chaplin who also actually had the nerve to play guitar!
@broadband0118 Yeah, I've seen them six times and I agree with you there. They are just kind of a shell of what they used to be. They drag out Start Me Up and extra 5 minutes, and rush through songs, I don't think Keith is playing on some of the stuff, they have too much of Chuck Levelle in the mix. They jsut don't sound R&R anymore. Out Of Control (in St. Louis) is on YOUTUBE and was the last time I seen them rock live. Was glad I was there. Watch that one. Wow
@dannyd1572 I have checked 'Out of Control' and it's ok apart from the backing singers and Blondie bloody Chaplin again trying to get in on the act. Have you ever listened to 'Bye Bye Johnny, the '72 version from Madison Square Garden. I've probably mentioned it before, but by God, that defines R&R and you will NEVER get sick of listening to it. All the best.
@broadband0118 DId you make sure and watch the St. Louis version? Love the way Mick just goes off on a dancing spree in the middle..then pulls out the harp and its almost like Keiths guitar and micks harmonica are having grinding sex. I did watch that Bye Bye Johnny. That is great. My favorite Stones lineup of all time. :)
@dannyd1572 Yeah, I really did watch the St Louis version and it is good. I'll give it another couple of plays too. But if you listen to 'Bye Bye Johnny' just check out the way Jagger introduces Taylor at the start of the song like he is a piece of shit. Then Taylor takes off like a man posessed and just blows everyone else away.
@broadband0118 Yea I noticed that too. LOL Mick Taylor was by far the best thing that happened to the Stones. They played with much more blues to them. Taylor (was) a strong lead guitarist, making Keith play up to his level. For the past forty years Keith has had Ronnie, who is usually too drunk to play good. As a result you get a lot of sloppy playing. My favorite years of the stones are from Let It Bleed on up to Goats.
@dannyd1572 Yes,Let It Bleed is their finest hour without doubt. Such great songs, my personal favourite being 'Monkey Man' but everything is great on it. By the way, I don't mean to boast but you previously mentioned Knebworth in relation to 'Wild Horses' and I was actually there! Great day, saw those Southern boys too whose name I can't spell!
@broadband0118 Wow! What a great concert to see! Skynrd hu? I heard they blew the Stones off the stage and that the Stones were an hour or so late and ticked people off. Ronnie said in his book that during that show Keith reached in to his bag to get out a tuner and sliced his hand on a razor but played through the show. He said people were yelling at Keith like the blood was part of the show. LOL Would have loved to see that show. Lucky yoU!
@dannyd1572 I remember those Southern boys being good, but they certainly didn't blow The Stones away - no fucking chance! The Stones certainly came on late and started with a subdued 'Satisfaction', then on to 'If you cant rock me' (I think). What I most remember was 'Route 66' and maybe 'Carol' (can't be certain about that), and some shite off Black and Blue like Hot Stuff and Hey Negritta (Yawn). They encored with Street Fighting Man. It seems like a million years ago now but it was a top day
@broadband0118 broadband0118 So you are from across the pond? I've seenSkynryd about 4 times..well not the original obviously, and have seen my Stones about 6 times. Still love the Stones. Always will. The Montreaux stuff is pretty good. Thanks for turning me on to that. Great to see Keith play some nice bluess stuff on that. Miss that Mick Taylor era. Whats your favorite album? Bleed?
@dannyd1572 My favourite album is Let it Bleed without a doubt, that will never be surpassed. After that,Sticky Fingers, Exile and Beggars' Banquet are excellent. Aftermath is pretty good too from the early stuff. There is a good early live clip from '65 from the NME Poll Winners Concert. See if you can get that. Regards.
i guess you never heard the tapes from their 73 european tour, mick taylor plays like a god, the only time the stones ever had a guitar god, keith sticks to rythm and doesn#t even trys to solo and he#s sharp as a knife, mick doesn't overuse his voice the least bit, perfectly crafted, and even charlie and bill, who normally put me to sleep, were on fire.
listen to jumping jack flash 1973 Brussels, Oct. 17, first show, taylors ose of the muted wah is a revelation.
Find the version from Knebworth..best ever!
