ya know when your listening to something and you just cant help but to just smile?...well this is a perfect example of that...except you smile bigger each time when you watch it and you cant smile any bigger and your mouth starts to hurt but you don't realize that it hurts until the videos over.......and then you replay the video another time and the cycle repeats itself
@sometimes350... Dude... I was shocked to learn a few years ago that Herbie played with Miles Davis in '63! He was like 23 at the time... This guy does NOT look his age at all!... Apparently he's 71 now.
I wish people always smiled like that after they perform. That's how you know someone loves what they're doing. These two guys, well they're the shit.
a fantastic duo of two exceptional pianists..Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock have the perfection of the greatest pianists of classical music and the genius of the greatest composers of music
Chick has always had this uncanny sense of where someone is going with their solo and adds a little something to make the other persons solo sound better. He does it all the time and I love it.
I was watching a Jaco Pastorius bass method video and he espoused the importance of leaning by watching. As a piano player this particular song has taught me alot .The piece could probably provide at least a semester text in jazz improv. What a clinic
Absolutamente impresionante. Qué grandes artistas. Hay que ver como disfrutan estos dos virtuosos del piano. Espero que pronto se les vuelva a ver en un "duelo" de Jazz XD
Can't wait to see him in the Netherlands the 13 of November. Whew. Already got my tickets. With the free seating I'll have to make sure to be at the venue approximately 3 hours before the show. Just to guarantee a good spot.
It's playing like this that makes some us pianists occasionally wonder why we still try to perform. Thank heaven each musician has his own things to say--I just wish I had some of those chops to accent tthe harmonic ideas I have--at least just a little... lol.
no matter how many times I hear them do this - it still blows me away ... they recorded this in 1980 on vinyl - Liza -- "sick" just sick... anyone catch the 'quote by Chick of Raymon Scott'?! ill....
I bet they had fun and I had fun too! Lol, but for me its too caught up in itself. Virtoursity shouldnt come before music itself. In this respect Keith got me back on track.
Dios mio man! I reckon these piano jewels slap you in the face with what total geniuses the guys are even more than their solo or ensemble work. Musical equivalent of bringing two chunks of enriched uranium dangerously close to each other... only in this case the only danger is not being able to regain your speech for a few minutes...
Here are two of the most progressive minds in jazz, I think - even more than someone like Keith Jarrett (also a superb classical player). I get tired of people knocking Corea's "electric band" stuff of the 70s too; It's inventive stuff. And Hancock's contributions to the legendary Miles Davis recordings upstage Miles himself! Does anyone know if a video exists of the famous 1982 Munich two-piano improvisations by Corea & Gulda? If so I'd love to see it, I've listened to the CD many times.
Electric band wasnt till 80's. Return to Forecer was Chick's main 70's electric band. For the most part, the 80's sucked, and, unfortunatetly, even Chick couldnt fully escape.
haha youtube phenomana had been the entry gate for any kind of human stupidity....speculate here about who is "better" is like a suicide that hold a grenade in a hand and a c4 explosive at other, asking what of both will kill him "better"
These guys are freaking unbelievable. As far as "who is better" is ridiculous. Neither is better. Both technically flawless and expressing themselves uniquely
Both are overly competent as far as technique goes, since they both have plenty of background in classical repetoire. Chick's semi-staccato style is simply influenced by his background as a drummer, so you'll never see him missing a beat. What's most important, however, is not that one is better, but they are both at such a fantastic level that they can draw energy and ideas off of each other to make frickin' beautiful music.
My Gods! This is true music. I feel pity for those people who do not understand nor feel Jazz. I feel sorry for those Classical pianists who only knows to repeat dead people´s music and have no creativity. THIS IS AWESOME. THIS IS TRUE AND REAL MUSIC !
Herbie's technique is much more effortless than Chick's. Better, overall. His runs are just as "clean" in the sense that he plays them how he wants them to sound. As does Chick, I suppose, but he always plays his runs in a nearly semi-staccato manner. Sounds more showy whereas Herbie just plays to express his ideas musically.
Haha, I'll always be a Herbie fan well over Chick. But yes, I'm not saying either are necessarily better, it's just not fair to say his runs aren't as clean. They are just more legato, that's all.
Well, now come to think it...I do feel like playing -- I guess that's the best compliment you can give guys like Chick, Herbie, Keith, etc. It's time to go out and hit those 88's.
