Very nice video, great ambient sound and well shot. It's a hard call in this situation, since it's taken in the railroad right-of-way (property), so RR can "ask you to leave" if safety is a concern. Lots of risk with that heavy equipment and a precariously positioned locomotive. Pity, do you think they'd allow you to remain (escorted) in return for a copy of the documentary footage?

most of the time its a side boom basiclly a big cat dozer kinda like what a pipeliner would use. two or three on each side. then rerail what ever they can put on flat cars what they cant and get it back in service.

@rattytheraccoonI've seen it done, it's very cool. They have a very big crane, either on rails or a tracked crane on a flatbed that can be offloaded. It has a sliding counterweight to balance the load depending on weight & boom extension. As the locomotive is being lowered onto the tracks, the last little bit of alignment is done by a couple of guys just pushing it. It's amazing that a man (or 3) can swing that much mass. (Gotta watch your toes! :-)

@kratos32godofwar these trains with two containers stacked on top of each other is a normal thing in America or at least the good old USofA. Not quite sure where you are from. The containers are locked into the well of the car then the 2nd container is locked in place on top of the first one. Sometimes they even put a third container on top of the second. I am a freight conductor and have been on many trains with the two container setup.

It's just you. BNSF is a massive railroad moving massive tonnage or thousands of miles of track. As a result, there will be accidents and some of these will make headlines.

But all in all, given the amount of freight hauled, BNSF does an amazing job
