Don't believe the (mis)hype about Toyotas. But it's okay most are blinded by Toyota's "quality" reputation. I have hyundai sonata 2007 3.3l and its transmission shifts really rubbish, shifts are heavy and harsh, city style driven only 40 k km on odo, engine and tranny are not corelated to each other, driven my friends camry 01 year, 2.2l man believe me or not, this is really fun to drive car, transmission shift r so sweet, not as my sonatas , never buy hyundai with HIVEC OR H-MATIC tranny really trouble trasmissions!!! most of the owners r not satisfied with hyundai tranny

Like the front lower control arm recall, the metal sub-frame can be weakened by corrosion, causing a potentially disasterous failure.
Hyundai is facing a widespread corrosion issue thanks to the road salt used in clearing heavy snow. A total of 170,610 Elantra models from MY2001 through MY2003 and MY2003 Tiburons are prone to breakage of their front lower control arms due to corrosion. It goes without saying, a crash could occur should the suspension piece snap.

It really wouldn't surprise me actually. Take a fully loaded Camry and a fully loaded Sonata and see which is worth more in 5 years. It's hard to find even a base Camry LE with under 150k miles for under $10k dude.
toyota isnt as good to rely on than Hyundai because i have a Camry and the shocks brock. they wont fix it all at once! i had to go to the dealer to fix it 5 times so i gave up and went to a body shop and they fixed it right on the spot. that prooves it totally
I worked at Kirmac Collision in BC, Canada. We have over 60 courtesy car fleet comprising of 08 Sonata and Camry. They are very similar but we found that Sonatas have been way more reliable. Toyota's quality is is not what it used to be anymore in comparison to other companies. For god sake, even Buick are more reliable than Toyotas these days.

but even right now in 09' i would probably pick the sonata, still a little more luxurious looking, and it's cheaper. Hyundai is at the same level as toyota, if not better.
This competition is real...that is why in my town the Toyota dealship ALSO owns a Hyundai lot! Why would they have both if they didn't see the worth in both cars. We researched both the Sonata & Camry for 6 months. Drove 2 versions of each car and decided on the Sonata limited. Love it!! There's room for both depending on what you prefer. We prefer the Sonata based on what we found out.
they talk about the top of the line stuff but the LX is nicer than the gls... and oh btw, the lx does come with a 6 disc changer so that point of his is rendered invalid. camry still has a tape player though XD

I am currently driving a friends Hyundai Sonata and all I can say is WOW. You can't judge this car by Hyundai's crappy past, it truly is a breakthrough car for Hyundai. The acceleration is incredible, the ride and handling awesome, and it truly is a comfortable car loaded up with features others make you pay extra for. Unless you drive this car you simply won't appreciate it, and I'm a luxury german car driver, so I know quality when I drive it.

I would just like to say i've driven both these cars one right after the other on numerous occasions. my driving instructor had the camry which i actually have hade the opportunity to drive more than my sonata. the sonata has a much more comfortable and luxurious interior. it also handles, accelerates, and brakes easier than the camry. the only thing i dont like about the sonata is its poor fuel economy (20 cty 30 hwy) which actually is a little generous.
I agree with the lady you get it all up front buying the Sonata,you have to spend close to $5,000 USD just get Camry resale value,I did a comparsion test between the 2000 Camry and a 2000 Hyundai sonata it was only a $2,000 difference between resale values, another great thing about Hyundai you get better rebate offers the than Toyota, in my opinion the end result is you save over $3,000 choosing Hyundai.

I think both are good. Many find the toyota just like the Hyundai to be boring looking. Something like the ford fusion is better looking even the Chrysler Sebring but the sebring has the worst quality out of the current midsize sedans. The engines on 2006 models toyotas are puny even the accords made until 2001 had a 210 V-6. Now the match is uneven for the Sonota cause the redesigned 2007 Camry V-6 is 268 HP not a 190 or 210.

I traded in my Cadillac Catera for a 2006 Sontata because I was f***ing tired of all the recalls and then the repair costs after the really pricey extended warrantee wore out. No, the Sonata is not a Cadillac, but at least now I have bumper to bumper for 100,000 miles. The 2006 Sontata LX kicks ass!

they tested the 07' Camry with the 07'Accord and 07'Sonata, and though the Accord was sportier out of the 3, the Camry came out on top and the Sonata on the bottom. yea Hyundai is making its way to the top, but they're still a couple steps behind.
I also own a 2006 Sonata. The best car I've ever owned as well. Totally comparable to my co-worker's Camry. Both are equal in my book but I paid much less for mine. And it's not cheap. The quality is right on par with the Camry. Believe me. Hyundai's quality has been steadily going up and up over the years. This car is superb.
I have to tell you that the Sonata quality is about 20% below Camry quality, the steel in the camry is rated 1 grade over the Sonata Steel, plus it's welded with A7018, but korean Hyundai uses 6013(lower quality) steel.
I own the 06 Sonata LX with all the bells & whistles and its the best car I've ever owned. One poster said the Sonata is cheaper because its cheap, well that is BS, its just plain a much better value and if it were so cheap they wouldn't stand behind it with the best warranty in the business. I bought the Sonata over the Camry & Accord and neither I nor my wallet regret it!
I noticed a couple mistakes in their review about the 06 Sonata; One was that they inferred that the Camry had a 6-CD changer and that the Sonata doesn't...wrong, you can get a 6-CD changer in the Sonata, mine has one. Two they said the GLS was the top of the line for Sonata in 06...Wrong, the LX is the top 06 model and the top model for 07 is called the Limited.

i definitley would have picked the sonata in this case.
but even right now in 09' i would probably pick the sonata, still a little more luxurious looking, and it's cheaper. Hyundai is at the same level as toyota, if not better.

This competition is real...that is why in my town the Toyota dealship ALSO owns a Hyundai lot! Why would they have both if they didn't see the worth in both cars. We researched both the Sonata & Camry for 6 months. Drove 2 versions of each car and decided on the Sonata limited. Love it!! There's room for both depending on what you prefer. We prefer the Sonata based on what we found out.

The 09 sonata HAS beaten the 09 Camry in comparison tests.. Just look up Motor trend's "The Familial and Frugal, Part 2: The Top Five". The 09 sonata beat the 09 camry and the 09 accord.

Folks talk about hyundai stealing from other car companies. Its probably if not certainly true. So what! I have a sante fe and an elantra and both payment combined are less than my toyota FJ cruiser. I like toyota but i got alot more car for my money and a way better warranty from hyundai. Sunroof, leather, great fuel economy and peppy is just a few of the things i really enjoy. JMO.

I am currently driving a friends Hyundai Sonata and all I can say is WOW. You can't judge this car by Hyundai's crappy past, it truly is a breakthrough car for Hyundai. The acceleration is incredible, the ride and handling awesome, and it truly is a comfortable car loaded up with features others make you pay extra for. Unless you drive this car you simply won't appreciate it, and I'm a luxury german car driver, so I know quality when I drive it.

I would just like to say i've driven both these cars one right after the other on numerous occasions. my driving instructor had the camry which i actually have hade the opportunity to drive more than my sonata. the sonata has a much more comfortable and luxurious interior. it also handles, accelerates, and brakes easier than the camry. the only thing i dont like about the sonata is its poor fuel economy (20 cty 30 hwy) which actually is a little generous.

I agree with the lady you get it all up front buying the Sonata,you have to spend close to $5,000 USD just get Camry resale value,I did a comparsion test between the 2000 Camry and a 2000 Hyundai sonata it was only a $2,000 difference between resale values, another great thing about Hyundai you get better rebate offers the than Toyota, in my opinion the end result is you save over $3,000 choosing Hyundai.

I think both are good. Many find the toyota just like the Hyundai to be boring looking. Something like the ford fusion is better looking even the Chrysler Sebring but the sebring has the worst quality out of the current midsize sedans. The engines on 2006 models toyotas are puny even the accords made until 2001 had a 210 V-6. Now the match is uneven for the Sonota cause the redesigned 2007 Camry V-6 is 268 HP not a 190 or 210.

I traded in my Cadillac Catera for a 2006 Sontata because I was f***ing tired of all the recalls and then the repair costs after the really pricey extended warrantee wore out. No, the Sonata is not a Cadillac, but at least now I have bumper to bumper for 100,000 miles. The 2006 Sontata LX kicks ass!

they tested the 07' Camry with the 07'Accord and 07'Sonata, and though the Accord was sportier out of the 3, the Camry came out on top and the Sonata on the bottom. yea Hyundai is making its way to the top, but they're still a couple steps behind.

I also own a 2006 Sonata. The best car I've ever owned as well. Totally comparable to my co-worker's Camry. Both are equal in my book but I paid much less for mine. And it's not cheap. The quality is right on par with the Camry. Believe me. Hyundai's quality has been steadily going up and up over the years. This car is superb.

I have to tell you that the Sonata quality is about 20% below Camry quality, the steel in the camry is rated 1 grade over the Sonata Steel, plus it's welded with A7018, but korean Hyundai uses 6013(lower quality) steel.
The engine materials are lower quality too.

I own the 06 Sonata LX with all the bells & whistles and its the best car I've ever owned. One poster said the Sonata is cheaper because its cheap, well that is BS, its just plain a much better value and if it were so cheap they wouldn't stand behind it with the best warranty in the business. I bought the Sonata over the Camry & Accord and neither I nor my wallet regret it!

I noticed a couple mistakes in their review about the 06 Sonata; One was that they inferred that the Camry had a 6-CD changer and that the Sonata doesn't...wrong, you can get a 6-CD changer in the Sonata, mine has one. Two they said the GLS was the top of the line for Sonata in 06...Wrong, the LX is the top 06 model and the top model for 07 is called the Limited.
