i mean they're just exploring people, no special screenplay, actors still playing a little like in theatre

    interesting

  • I especially liked the pillow fight.

  • Comic Boxing still has a very similar modern equivalent, the Harlem Globetrotters, they're venue is a traveling comedic basketball troop.

  • this doesnt work

  • you have been linked to by youtube.

  • I love how "copyright 1896 By TA Edision" kept flashing really quickly in the Feeding the Doves clip. It's like early subliminal messaging xD

  • WOW These are great I love I have The Edison collection on DVD along with some Edwin S. Porter films I love these these are better then todays crappy movies.

  • no steroids:D "cockfight" when i saw it, i was like...wtf?

  • no steroids:D

  • If you have a quick click, you can pause at a milisecond of 3:45 to see that Mr. Edison was particularly careful about people stealing his work.

  • i wonder while looking into those peoples eyes, what they were thinking, what they had for breakfast that day, who they talked to. I hope people wonder that about me 115 years from now when they find my old digital camcorder.

  • I read that this was considered almost pornographic back then -- especially the kissing scene.

  • 3:55 should be called samara morgan slumber party

  • I love these old films :)

  • nice abs

  • The Seminary Girls have very long hair

  • The strong man one made me want to vomit. lol! To me, that was nasty, seeing his muscles jump around, like they were high on crack. lol!!

  • The world we live in is 180 degree difference than most people will ever know. And I'm not talkng doom and gloom here, once you free yourself from the lies you find out that history, the present, the entire world is a much more amazing place and themings you'd never imagined may become real. The few have to control the many somehow... And it's through the mind. No way 2% of the worlds population could control the other 98% without psy ops tactics.

  • don't have food but walking around in 125$ Nikes with an iPhone and smoking Marlboros. We live in a society controlled by corporations, did you know that at the very top, 80% of all news we recurve whether by radio, paper, or TV is controlled by one source? Take everything you've learned that was filtered through mainstream sources and throw it out, start at square one again and rebuild your worldview... The puppetmasters work day and night, that you can count on.

  • @pegbars Youve been severely misinformed, the only people that will tell you subliminal have been proven not to work are either ignorant of the fact or they're lying. Eldon Taylor has done a lot to spread the word concerning subliminal advertising and various methods of mind control. There are several levels of subliminals, and not everybody is the same.... Look at how many poor people still by the most expensive gear and knick knacks,

  • 1:06 Thanks Edison....I always wondered what 115 year old package looked like.

  • :D sympa

  • 3:31 . . . Wow. :)

  • Isso é Maravilhoso, não tem valor !!!

Sim, podemos ver como era a vida naquela época sem cenários ou atuações.

Um autentico documento de 116 anos !!! Fantástico !!! Fabuloso !!!

    Obrigado Edison & cellchild !!!!!!

  • Imagine what a big deal this must have been!

  • 1:08 no steroids

  • someone tell me the songs names please

  • One of the best invented from Thomas Edison Company! He was the first Man of Cinema! :-)

  • @Starfighterking no. he stole the idea from someone else, like usual

  • Are we sure that`s a woman he is kissing? Hmmm.....This could have been more risque than we thought,

  • At 3:37 these words flash across the screen, "Copyright 1896 by T.A. Edison".

Was I the only one that caught that?

  • @SaikoTaiko I saw that too

  • @SaikoTaiko and at 3:31

  • @SaikoTaiko it was from Edison's studio

  • @SaikoTaiko I just saw it.

  • It's official: teenage girls pillow-fighting has been around since time immemorial. It's cute. :)

  • Back when bodybuilders didn't know about steroids, I bet even in his 80s he could still beat a buffed up bodybuilder on steroids hehe... good ol' times

  • u think they might still be alive??? lol

  • I can't imagine what it will be like 100 years after I die...if those people only knew how technology has shaped our daily existence.

  • @carcrash714 I know right? lol

  • Nice stuff! I appreciate how these films are run at the proper framerate, instead of being sped-up.

  • :O this is so awesome! i need to make a kinetoscope and this kinda help me :D

go up to your URL bar, put a Q between the words you and tube and then press enter

  • Amaing to think that thoes recordings are over 100 years old!

  • over 114 years old,

when this was made it was,

    only 95 years after Washington

    only 104 years after Franklin

    only 29 years after Lincoln

    Put that in perspective

  • This was so cute. I loved all the little films. I wish I could have been in the pillow fight at the end. It looked like so much fun.

  • Those are great little films, like walking back in time. I love the music, too.

  • wow...this is awesome!!! and when it said cockfight...i got the wrong idea...

  • Nice visual art, and that guy's ripped! Naturally!

  • @Zeanu His name was Sandow...he was a famous person in his time. Get more info on him on Wikipedia! :)

  • I know who he is, heh. Thanks, though!

  • haha i watched this in video and film today

  • Doc Emmett L. Brown helped him?

  • LOL Thanks for the much needed laugh. =)

  • I love the way these old films are put together (series)

  • It'd be so cool to be able to say you're descended from the people in the films, because unlike most people, you'd have footage of your ancestor in motion!

  • The barber shop is repeated, if nobody knew.

  • i really didn´t know that there was films in the late 19th century. thank you so much for showing this for us all. it´s fascinating to catch a glimpse of this period in time.

  • yeah there ware movies in the 1880s and even before then i think the 1st ever american movie was created in 1878 by thomas edison? .

  • Feels weird to see ppl frome late 1800ct, geting amazed by just looking how the ppl, looking how they lived that time :/.. Barber shop is my favorite, clip is just catchin the moment at that second and now their all dead and we now more than 100 years old look at internet.. The life is mysterious..

  • Yes, you are so right.

It's eerie to be able to have a peek back into the 19th century, to look at ghosts from a vanished era...

  • Too True! Also, people back then could'nt look at movies of people & events from over a Century ago.

  • @pooway Yeah imagine in 2110 people playing old video games or reading my 104 year old myspace profile. They'll get to see more of the 1900's then we did the 1800's. Watching televsion shows 130 years after it's been aired will be werid. I can't watch televsion shows in the 1800's because there was known. This is as close as i can get.

  • the dancer would look cool in an industrial music video

  • Did you know before any picture of film there use to be bare knuckle boxing... OUCH!!!

  • Anyone know where i can see The Serpentine dances in color like 0:31 in high quality??

  • Amazing. And yet these subjects probably forgot about this the next day and just went on with their lives, perhaps never knowing that we would be seeing them now...

  • The second one would've been really scary if not for the delightful piano music.

  • I Just Love The Cockfight Film From 1896 .

  • These early films were mainly viewed by the working classes

  • I've been in the very room where WKL Dickson perfected the Kinetoscope. ENHS - West Orange, NJ

  • Its amazing that scenes from everyday life in the 1890s can be preserved forever.

  • William Dickson Worked with Edeson .

  • can i find these old films on DVD ? .

  • These were famous dancers and athletes i their day.. The rooster fighting is now illegal. My grandfather used a shaving strap for his single blade till he died... 1972 Zoftig women and girls were considered beautiful..thin was ugly back then.

  • I see these more as performances then movies. But they're great artistic nevertheless.

  • The first girl from the serpentine dance is just like a beautiful fairy!

Just like I've see her in my dreams! I'm in love!

  • What is this new technology??? Me thinks it's witchcraft!!!

  • no thare ware no nurd films back then .

  • why is that lol ? .

  • im sorry.

  • thats ok iwas just asking .

  • At 3:36 I noticed a flashed message, stopped it reads, "Copyright 1896 by T.A. Edison"

Is this just a little bit of stray film or did he purposely place that there (sort of like a subliminal message)?

  • That was Edison's official copyright notice. It's in many of the films, and only on one frame here and there.

FWIW, there is no such thing as subliminal cuts - it doesn't work (after all, you noticed it, didn't you). It's an urban legend.

  • The Seminary Girls scene was so hot. Just kidding. My real reason for posting is I wondered why this Edison is so clear, while others are bad. What was so important about these so that they are preserved so well.

  • my guess that it's just coincidence...

  • The Library of Congress is using new technology to transfer paper prints of these vintage titles. Most of the old clips you see elsewhere are actually deteriorating nitrate prints, while the LOC versions are actually paper copies of the original camera negatives.

  • All of these scenes from 1894-96? Great history of our original movies. One suggestion: Delete the cock fight scene!

  • wow the boxing was so different.. amazing post!

  • Sooo ooolld!

  • Thank you - these were great!

  • Cellchild, Truly fascinating! Thank you for sharing this. Regards, J.
