Josh is great with his own music but this song has a ton of complexity and this cover version has missed much of that. The guitar style in this is very driven and the vocals are high and earnest. The Church perform this with massive depth and space and the vocals are understated, breathy and trance-like. It can be done differently but I think this has lost something.

@bozomatt What I love about Josh Pyke's music is that he uses a lot of vocal layering in his songs. "The Summer" is a good example (particularly the chorus). I guess he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think 'plain' is a bit harsh ;) haha.
