"Green Berets" are NCOs and commisioned officers that have passed the Special Forces Assessment and Selection program and reclassified into an 18-series MOS upon completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course. They are generally assigned to one of the 5 active duty groups upon completion of training.

@FreeRideAddikt Nope. DELTA is a SF entity of it's own that recruits from The Green Berets, Rangers and recently they started recruiting from conventional soldiers. Of course, they come to you. You have to be good to be a GB, but you need to be an absolute top performer to be noticed by DELTA.
@KokeJr in a word - "Sort of" MOST of 1st Special Ops Det. 'D' had been in SF, however it's not a requirement. I knew an SFC, gym buddy I lifted weights with (believe it or not a COOK who was a fitness guru and competitive runner) He went to Delta selection (mentioned TDY in WV) & I never saw him again. Anyway - D & SF are separate with separate missions but answer to the same higher up command.

But indeed most black ops are run by the CIA's SAD/SOG but not always i've read that SAD/SOG actually go's into a country prior any forces...even Tier 1 just to collect intel for the Tier 1 units who start taking out high value ennemy assets...hhope i cleared that a bit :)

@FreeRideAddikt Nope. DELTA is a SF entity of it's own that recruits from The Green Berets, Rangers and recently they started recruiting from conventional soldiers. Of course, they come to you. You have to be good to be a GB, but you need to be an absolute top performer to be noticed by DELTA.

@KokeJr in a word - "Sort of" MOST of 1st Special Ops Det. 'D' had been in SF, however it's not a requirement. I knew an SFC, gym buddy I lifted weights with (believe it or not a COOK who was a fitness guru and competitive runner) He went to Delta selection (mentioned TDY in WV) & I never saw him again. Anyway - D & SF are separate with separate missions but answer to the same higher up command.

When you say you support us but don't support the reasons it's okay too, We soldiers do as we are asked, and we help keep the right for you to speak out. Unfurtonetly in Italy there is not the same respect for those peoples who lost their life in battle. I think in the u.s. everyone can feel to be a part of somthing important , can touch and breath the honor and the rispect on the citiizens and of the institutions.

I just finished reading all of the comments - some touching, some intelligent, some rude, some childish. Having served, I have little to say, but will put this forth - it isn't the uniform, but the heart and soul of the person that makes the soldier, no matter what the nation. Three uncles of mine served in WW II.I always remember the respect the paid to the discipline and ferocity of the German soldier. Remember all, choose wisely which hill to die on. PS - Great song back when I had hair!
