Although "Shoryuken" stands for "Rising Dragon Fist," both Ryu and Ken's names are featured either coincidentally or because Capcom simply took inspiration from Shoryuken to name the two main fighters.

Symbolically, the name "Shoryuken" shows the fact that both Ryu and Ken share this attack as their own signature move.

Originally, both Ken and Sakura set off to rescue a brainwashed Ryu filled with Bison/Vega's Psycho Power. While Sagat holds off Ryu in his raging state, Ken and Sakura team up against Bison. Ryu later regains his senses and assist the two fighters. This story is canon, though as theninjajosh has stated, it is the shame they didn't feature it.

Ken is rad and a significant secondary character to others, but his SFA3 game didn't make a very exciting video. I wish his role in rescuing Ryu with Sagat and Sakura was shown in his game. What's funny to me is, my favorite video so far has been R Mika's. Her character really didn't do anything significant to the overall SFA3 story, so they gave her a hilarious, jokey ending with Zangief. Funny how that works out.
