For the old timers, remember when we could clear a maxed out C-141 in 52 seconds, 140 troops out the door in less than a minute, brigade mass attacks were great. Once I was hooking up while troops were exiting, when I clipped the safey pin I handed it to the jumpmaster. Miss those days greatly.
When I went through in 88, Henry Winkler (the fonz) was there observing for a movie he was making, (My momma wears combat boots) Later became jump master instructor at Bragg with 7th SFG. the thing I rember most is how bad the food was, it was the worst.
Looks like not much has changed since I went through the course in A Co. 31-02. God I hated the SLT. Otherwise, I thought the school was pretty fun. Anyone out there have a class photo from A Co 31-02 or know how to get one?

It's been five years since I did a rear PLF. It's cool to see kids rolling in the gravel. Other than the disgusting roach infested barracks, it was a good way to spend three weeks.
@ibanezgiorocks A Marine would most likely go to Airborne School because he's in a special unit such as MARSOC or a Recon detachment. The Marines don't have their own Airborne School, so they send their troops through the Army's course.
I hope to beable to go to Airborne School directly after i finish Infantry OSUT. I am going to ask for it again the last time i go to MEPS before i ship. the only thing i am really nervous about is the 250ft Tower, the 34 foot tower looks fun but the 250 looks scary as shit
No, from what i understand as a civilian air assault is rappelling from helicopters and airborne is jumping out of planes. and dont get confused with the 101st. Even though they are air assault, they keep the title "Airborne" out of tradition and heritage
There used to be a little white shed on top of the hill behind the bleachers where the free towers were....they(black hats) told us ( class 7-83 ) every day that there were free coffee and doughnuts and AC in the little white shed for anyone who wanted to quit.....no takers....instead we said;
When I went through in march I was in A company and we had a marine refuse to jump out of the tower. So the Sergeant Airborne was kind enough to kick him out!
Hey. Im enlisting in May and since you have been to airborn basic. I was wanting to go to the airborn infantry and i was wondering wat the basic is like and also do you have to go to regular basic training whe you enlist for airborn?
Well if you want to go straight up infantry I would suggest getting ranger in your contract. Or go 18 series if your lucky enough to get it. Airborne will automatically be added on. You will go through basic training with everyone else, we had everyone from medics to truck drivers and electronic repairers(me). The only difference with infantry is AIT and basic are combined for something like 12-13 weeks. My suggestion is get a job that will help you when your out of the army.
oh. my. god. umm any mos you are, and specialties you have in your contract, you still gotta do the 9 weeks of basic. unless you wanna become an officer, but that shits tricky. why are you planning on enlisting in may..just enlist now.
I went through airborne training December 1973. The towers look the same. When I was standing in line there were SGT'S messing with us, making us do push ups. Only ten at a time though, that was the rules, but we had to get right back down again and to ten more. If we weren't doing the Airborne Shuffle, we were doing push ups all day long. I sure was in shape when I graduated from Airborne Training !!!
yah i did ha ha, did u also notice that some of there insignia had the 101st airborne, even though they have the identifier airborne there air mobile division they have been that way since late veitnam war
Nothing better than running off the DZ after your fifth jump. Happy landings from class #37-09

@SPQRsamurai117 ,no Airborne is jumping out of planes, and Airassault is rapelling out of choppers
R3DF0X9 2 years ago
No. Air assault training is done primarily from helecopters. Most air assault training is done at Ft. Hood, Texas.
Airborne training is done at Ft. Benning GA. Airborne training is done to jump from C130 Aircraft and C141
Air assault is performed from helecopters. They are both intensive.
I am AIRBORNE
