Alina: it is better if you got explanations from your "best friends" as to why exactly they turn their backs upon finding out that you are Roma. Yes I have heard explanations, and I expect them to be the similar, and they are needed to build a framework for improving both realities and mis-perceptions.

Good people can become bad through bad treatment, and I know that the Roma have been treated badly for centuries, and are still being mis-treated ... but you must bring out all sides.

Roma or Romani are the politically correct term for gypsies.The Roma(Romani) are an ethnic minority in Romania and other European countries who are believed to have come from India many centuries ago. Romanians are an Eastern European people. The two groups have 2 different histories, origins and cultures.Just because the two words(Romanian and ROmani) sound simmilar it doesn't mean they mean the same thing.

Romanians are not gypsies(Roma) although it is true that there are gypsies who are Romanian citizens just like there are Muslim Algerians who are French citizens or French people who have American or British citizenship.
