you can overtrain them, but you can also do core everyday since your core is not only your abs but lower back as well--something that people forget..you can work different groups of abs
Why would your abdominals be any different than any other muscle in regards to overtraining? THey are made of the same tissue and cells as any other muscle so they are no special case for being "over-trained". Hitting your abs excessively will just deteriorate from heavy core lifts like squats, deads, etc.
No need to get all up in a tizzy, I'm just saying that it is POSSIBLE to overtrain any muscle and your abdominals are not an exception to that. Doing non-resistance based exercises would probably never overtrain your abs, which is why you see people do ridiculous volume bodyweight crunches everyday versus doing some simple heavy crunches or leg raises a few times a week to get the same or better results
You could do your ab exercises with weights and do less reps? Like for sit ups, put a 45lbs plate on your chest or hold it behind your head and do them like that.

Just did this for the first time a couple days ago. I wanted to die. I can only imagine what the bluehaired treadmillers thought of me.

only 5 reps each -- is that sufficient?
or is it shortened for demonstration purposes?
i guess i over-train my abs??
this is my circuit, no rest from A. to E., 4 times, twice a week:
A. 20 no momentum sit-ups
B. 20 hip thrusts
C. 20 side-planks on each side
D. 70 waist twists
E. 50 leg raises
thanks!

I'm not an expert or anything but I'm pretty sure it's impossible to over-train your abs.
Modern day Boxers do 500+ crunches a day.

your abs are like any other muscle.... and your body adapts to volume.. 500 crunches isn't much

Which is why I said I'm not an expert, genius.
When I trained Thai Boxing my instructor told me core/ab work can and should be done everyday.
I still do core work everyday to this day for the past several years and my deadlifts and squats haven't stagnated very much, if not at all.
Just what I was told.

haha oh i think i use "over-train" too loosely
i guess what i meant was:
can i do less reps (like in the video) and still maintain good strength?
though i assume it all depends on what you define as "good strength"
pointless question... thanks tho!

the vid is to show the routine. would you want a 29 sec vid that gets to the point, or a 2 min vid for three excercises. Get Smart!
