what i dont understand is..when people look up a song, such as this, and they go to this link..yet they give it a thumbs down...i mean this IS the house of the risnig sun by ~the animals, whats not to like? it LITERALLY cant get any better, because this IS the song. i hate when i look up songs and i see they get thumbs down, mp3's and other things such as this should get only thumbs up
To wear that ball and chain. Wait, on the brain, cause your lame, you need to be tamed, cause you make me ashamed, so please stop being a pain before your potty trained. In a gold clad baby shoe video, lol. So like that other old song, "Turn out the lights", Please Already, I'm not paying your electric bills. Please copy and paste to show your teachers down in the hollow out tree along the river. Life is good.
You say Hannah Montana, I say The Rolling Stones
You say Owl City, I say Led Zeppelin
You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Beatles
You say Justin Bieber, I say Queen

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop over and over again. If you're one of the 5% who still listens to real music, thumb this up, then copy & paste it to at least five videos. Don't let the spirit of rock and roll die
At some point during 1964 I went to see the Animals on one of the UK tour packages. I think the venue was the Woolwich Granada. The group had had a couple of respectable hits out by then, but were still largely unknown. At the end of the set, Eric Burdon announced that their next release would be House of the Rising Sun, and with the stage bathed in red light they performed what would be one of the defining tracks in rock 'n' roll history. At the age of 63, the memory is still utterly vivid.
why cant this sort of music still be alive today??? all thats here now is Justin Bieieber, JLS, dizzee whatsits face and lady gaga. life is depressing >:(
Interestingly enough Eric Burden heard some original black soul music and became inspired by it, then joined this band and sung in a similar kind of style. Nowadays it's hard to be inspired by modern music! Yes I too wish that music still existed today, unfortunately the fat cat record companies are the ones to blame, talented musicians still exist but it's very hard for them to get a record deal. Though maybe one day eh ;)
the Animals really rocked back in the 60's...I loved every minute of it...this video rocks!!Eric's voice was great but lately he embarrases himself when he sings...must need the money
You guys seriously need to stop posting negative comment on this beatiful song!!! if you hate it so much and you think there is something wrong with it then go watch something else! you people need to grow up and get a life because this song and the band members are awesome the way they are so leave this song alone the way it is or you'll regret it!! what if people said shit about YOU? huh? yea i mean it! =.=THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL AND EXPLAINS HALF OF MY LIFE BEAITUFULLY EXCELENT!!!
It's actually a very old song. There are recordings of it as far back as the 1930s and the song itself might be much older than that. No one even knows for sure who wrote it.
@plaxhazor Why's it necessary to compare everything to Lady Gaga? I was raised on this song and Eric Burdon, and I love Lady Gaga. It's like comparing seafood with steak. Some like one or the other, some people like both, some people like the other, get over it, because your way isn't the only way. Music goes to show that.
You know I enjoy the HD video of this song, but I love the fact that this video is louder. I can't stand when great songs are hampered by the fact that the video is too quiet!
the truth is none of the mass produced bullshit we got today comes anywhere close to the power, passion and quality these guys had. More talent in their little finger nail than justin fuckin beiber and lady bloody gaga will ever have

i remember got a keyboard for my christmas about 13 years ago or so. it had the tune of this song. i never learned to play the keyboard, but i've loved this song since then. it's fantastic :)
The intensity of the Animals is what makes this THE version of "House of the Rising Sun". They play and sing this as if they mean it and lived it. And as many others have noted, the simplicity of this video makes it all the more intense. Very powerful version that has and will always stand the test of time.
@glnelson1956 Couldn't agree more. They really seem to FEEL the song, much more than any other. Even in this video, the look in his eyes... haunting (in a good way, exactly what the song calls for).

If only people made them like this still, focusing on the music and not on scenery, pyrotechnics, and special effects hair and makeup.
Nobody knows who sang it first - it is an old folk song. But Dylan recorded his before the Animals. They have said they were influenced by his version. Check out some of the earlier versions (Josh White, Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie, etc.)
