Windows 7 Backup - Setup Backup

i downloaded my windows 7 ultimate and i dont have internet pls help

I have 3 questions...

1. If I will upgrade my computer from windows 7 starter to windows 7 ultimate, can I do this to make a backup of my files?(I already purchased windows 7 ultimate and my cousin will install it but he has no idea on how to do a backup)

2. Can I save this In a hard disk other than external hard drive?(I have 2 hard disks drive C: and drive D:)

3. I have done a backup and it was saved on drive D: and my question is: Why is the size of the backup 0 bytes?

please reply ive got a disc and every thing but it says the media needs to be formated and will completely eraze all data of media :/ shud i Format ?

Do i have to setup a backup?? because i dont have a and extra hard drive on my LapTop i got C drive then Recovery drive

@LsPasus It is always a good idea to have a backup of your data. You could backup up to a CD or DVD if you have a DVD+-RW or CD-RW drive on your computer.
