Found 17th c. science text mentioning 'luminous water' on Googlebooks while looking up water-compression - it cited a French text saying compressing water makes it luminous. Interestingly - quasars, more specifically masers, have been recently found to have luminous water in them too.
@randomlaughingman so how does one compress water to that level so that it glows. i mean how would we do that on earth, possibly this is what word enlightened orignally refered to
@realityexplorations - i don't really know, sadly the text only shows up periodically even on the google books - ie sometimes it just isn't there. and i can't find any other references to it. i tried looking for the original French text, it was mentioned in another very old chemistry book, but i found like one antiquarian bookshop at the time that had an original for sale......that was it. i think i posted the exact name and author at some steampunk forum, i've forgotten them anyway.
@realityexplorations - no i don't know them. i liked the steampunk idea cause it sounds like the timeline this would be, if the wrong way hadn't happened at the turn of last century. that isn't to say it was 100% ok, just that had it gone the right way back then it wouldn't be nearly as bad as it is now - partly because art&science wouldn't have become separate, so people wouldn't ignore any truths that became realised, as to eg aether problems with any tech they used.
I don't mean to ruin this lovely presentation but is this real?
