I aslo tried to tell this lady whose name is utubehaircare that purefied water moisturizes as well and not hardwater, but she claims water doesnot moisturizes hair at all and that so many girls are misinformed! I mean come on water is what you need to use the leave in conditioner! But she uses BB oil moisturizer in which got mineral oil in it, so she thinks thats how you suppose to mositurized your hair! I mean some people huh lol!
You are right I uses leave in conditioner and my hair has been less tangled ever since, shampoos is very drying, my hair cannot take it! My hair is bra strap length! So I uses deep conditioner which I make, which is olive oil and rosemary let that sit over night and wash it out with the leave in conditioner and my hair is so soft an hardly any hair coming out!
yeah you might already know this.. but shea butter isnt a moisterizer.. its an emoliant that makes hair FEEL soft but it wont really moisterize ur hair.. it just locks it in..
Im glad I watched this. I found that my hair likes cooperates better when I wet it in the morning and before bed. And then say like the next night my hair feels like I dont need to wet it, I can just braid do a braidout for the next day. It does so totally depend on the climate and what you use. All I know is that I go by how my hair feels and what I feel it beeds at that given point and time. Thanks for you r videos :-)
Hey Sis, what do you suggest for extremely dry hair. I'm using your LIC but my hair sucks it up and then its dry again. HELP. I watered down my hair first, not soaked it, then put in the LIC as a sealant. Did I do it right. My hair is so dry, a lot of people are saying the vegetagle glycerin mix really helps. I need help with my dry hair, about every 4 hours I have to wet it again. What do you think is wrong with my hair. Please help, thanks. I have 4b hair, no dye
:( I'm trying to go natural and all these videos are of women who have a mixed background. I have really coarse hair, and I so want to go natural but all these styles my hair will not keep
@Lovallee08 I felt the same way when I first went natura my hair is very coarse. However, dont underestimate what your hair is capable of just take good care of it and keep it moisturized and most of all look for styles on youtube and try to make them your own and be patient. Dont get discouraged its trial and error it'll be great girl!!!
abesykagdfu, I think you use the shea butter while your hair is wet. The shea butter seals in the moister/water. The shea butter does keep the hair very very soft which prevents breakage and split ends.
Some people condition or oil their hair prior to shampooing it. It kind of protects your strands from the stripping process that happens when you shampoo your hair.
hi! this vid was so informative! i've been natural for 2yrs now but i'm still learing and finding my way. i always thought when i shampoo my hair, it's supposed to have the squeaky, clean feeling. Now i know better! lately, i've been doing alot of trial and error things and it seems to be working. i moisturize WAY more and use more natural products. ur vids really help!!
oh honey i got this evil hair like before puberty my hair did it all but after my hair snapped combs, dried up, mad dandruff, didn't take a good perm and killed styles after like an hour.
i've had solan stylist that couldn't do shit with this hot mess and thus i've resorted to weaves, wigs and etc. this dry hair is frivolous!
i really nedd moisturized hair, i live in rockland county newyork, i use the pantene pro v line for african americans,i wash everyday becasue when i wake up it's dry already and i need to pre wet, and i ahve 3c -4ahair
hey there...look up CG method and conditioner only...i also have 3C/4A hair and i dont use shampoo anymore..i wash my hair with conditioner and also use vegetable glycerin and other natural oils..my hair is not dry anymore..hope this helps
not ever.lol i shampoo maybe once a month...you can use just conditioner and your hair will still be clean. most times we use shampoos to clean away the "cones" that can build up in our hair...if you dont use products with these items in them (which i dont anymore) then you wont need to shampoo your hair as often..use clarifying conditioners or mix baking soda with your favorite conditioner or even Castile soap. :)
she co-washes! i've been researching about it. washing ur scalp with a conditioner, cleans the scalp and conditions it. shampoos tend to strip ur off all the natural oils.
instead of washing everyday, maybe you could try co-washing everyday or, a few times a week. it has helped me a lot with dryness. there are a lot of vids on this technique:)
Some ways to tell (if you can't taste it) if your metal faucets, or metal shower heads have green or white stuff that builds up on them. Sometimes it can cause buildup (like a ring or streaks) in a toilet bowl or in the back of the toilet bowl there'll be a greenish or whiteish colored crusty looking ring
what would you recommend i do to get my sides to grow back in.I put a product in my hair a long time ago called rio and my sides have never really grown back in. My hair is natural and i'm a 4a and 3b. my hair is kinky curly put some of my hair strands are fine as well. Please any helpful comments welcome. Thank you in advance.
Can you please tell me if olive oil moisturizer is good for your hair. I want to find an alternative to lusters pink lotion which I have been using forever in my hair.
(fabien82) I can't really say if it is good or not since I have never tried it....but definetly take a look at product reviews on youtube to get some ideas...
water moisturizes your hair. Oil seals in the moisture. Luster's Pink Lotion has petroleum as a main ingredient which blocks water from penetrating the hair. After washing my hair, I use unrefined natural oils on my hair while my hair is wet. Coconut oil is an excellent natural oil which strenthen and seals in moisture (water). Between washings, I spritz my hair with water then seal in the moisture by applying coconut oil after spitzing with water.
Hi Everyone...love the videos Miss Rustic Beauty! My favorite for dry hair...I love creme of nature shampoo, been using it for years. After shampooing, I put on virgin coconut oil and a plastic bag, heat sometimes, rinse a little bit, and my hair is just lovely! VCO...Virgin Coconut Oil is a great hot oil treatment. Next best...Virgin Olive Oil.
Hello RusticBeauty first off i want to thank you for all of your videos they have been such a inspiration for my journey. I guess i am just having a hard time trying to find a protective style for me. I mainly wash my hair once a week and twist my hair like you do & just let it go free. I also just wrap my hair in Bantu knots & release them for the curl. But i don't really do much else with my hair. My hair is about medium length & pretty coarse! Do you have any ideas or advice? THANKS!
(MsRedChick84)Well, I would suggest satin head wraps (all types of colors and designs are available, or satin lined hats.) I don't really know of too many hair- styles...there probably are many. But I think since it is winter covering your hair up now would be just as effective.
i agree. the hair itself should be at a 'moisturized state'. during my transition i found out the hair has a moisture retention level. i took me about 4 months to get my hair to a well moisturized state. the difference is the overall moisture of the hair itself without any product. products i tried in my 3rd or 4th month of transition feel COMPLETELY different now that my hair is properly moisturized. this was from continuous conditioning and sealing in moisture. good conditioner is a must.
What kind of shea butter do you use because I have tried one with sage, sulfur & vitamin E included and it burned my scalp. I can't find one that says specifically 'unrefined" so I purchased the product at Whole Foods hoping that it was the best place to purchase it. All the shea butter items that they sell are "organic". Its all too confusing. Help!
Hi Rustic, what do you think of baking soda as shampoo. Have you used it? If so does it strip your hair? Totally organic shampoo is soooo expensive over here.
I have never had a relaxer or put any chemicals into my hair. I have used beeswax to lock my hair (2yrs-but in the process of removal). As a result I think I may have build up. I have never used a clarifying shampoo. I have always washed my hair once every week and followed with a deep conditioner and hair oils. Would you suggest using a clarifying shampoo or natural alternative? I am afraid or stripping my hair of its natural moisture. How can I remove buildup without damaging my hair?
try massaging a baking soda apple vinegar mix into you scalp and then rinse with applp vinegar. that works as a clarifying agent and won't strip your hair.
Hello. For buildup, mix a the castille soap, epsom salts and distilled water in a bottle or spray bottle. Saturate your hair with it and squeeze your hair.. rinse with very warm water. If you have "greasy" hair or locs, dilute Dawn dishwashing liquid, distilled water, and the epsom salts. You may have to do this a coupleof times. Don't panic. the Dawn will get that old grease out, and you can replenish your hair with rosemary, chamomile, and calendula teas. Epsom salts nourish and detoxify.
A great shampoo that isn't stripping is Jessicurl's Hair Cleansing Cream. When I was doing no poo and I wanted to clarify, I'd use the Gentle Lather Shampoo. Neither have SLS.
try using a natural clarifiyer like apple cider viniger and water. and after use a protein treatment sit under the dryer for 10 to 15 min and you should see a difference.
Thanks for posting this. My daughter's hair is starting to grow in and I'm finding that it's really dry and I'm having to moisturize her hair 2x a day. My hair holds moisture so I've never had to deal with that. I always thought it was bad to over moisturize so thanks for making a vid on this info.
Hi RusticBeauty, I love ur vids. If anyone uses a claryfing shampoo it must b followed with a GOOD moisturising shampoo that will return oils 2 the hair. U dont have 2 use a clarifying shampoo everytime u shampoo mayb once or twice a month. It is important to use a CS b/c it helps 2 remove build up from the hair its also good to use after 1 has been sick. BTW im a hairstylist
I can't remember the last time that I've said "my hair is dry." I clean my hair with Dr. Bronner's Hemp Peppermint Soap, that is made with organic oils. Condition with mayo & avocado that I make. I made an oil infusion with olive & sweet almond oils, infused with different herbs. I use a water & glycerin spray. And I use shea butter & coconut oil before I twist me hair. Everything I use has oil in it, so it stays soft and doesnt dry out. And I have thick coarse hair.
Is castile soap awesome as a shampoo? I just started using Trader Joe's peppermint castile soap and I love it. My hair doesn't feel like straw anymore.
It's winter in the Midwest so once warmer weather comes my routine will change, but in general I don't experience dry hair.
Each week I alternate between diluted Dr. Bronner's almond soap and Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner. Because castile soaps can leave a coating, I do regular ACV rinses as well. My leave-ins range in weight from very heavy to very light; all are customized recipes that I use depending on what my hair needs. They (and water) are what make the difference IMO.
I'm going to be a little nitpicky and say that shampoos can't strip hair of moisture because moisture comes from water (and only from water) and water is involved in shampooing. Shampoos CAN strip hair of oils and product residue. Sometimes they overdo it, resulting in squeaky-clean, oil-free, too-dry hair.
Also, I don't believe that you can "train" hair to do anything BUT I will say that since my hair currently sees some form of water EVERY DAY, if I skip a day I can feel the difference.
Girl I love your information!! You are so helpful. I was reading the description box and noticed you said something about touching your hair excessively. I cannot keep my hand (or other people's) out of my head for some reason LOL I think i'm not moisturizing enough or using the wrong stuff, because it's starting to break alot. Just ordered some new products today. We'll see what happens. Great vid!
(ladikira86) I have tried shampoos that got EVERY single drop of moisture (and junk) off my hair and left it SQUEAKY clean. My hair is naturally dry, I do not need products that are going to do that....The couple of thimes I have used them litterally the next day I noticed split ends.
wow...all these years I had it all wrong lol. I thought that when it was squeaky clean I was doing a good thing. Thanks soo much girl. I will definetly invest in a new shampoo.
Many times I have washed my hair with a favorite conditioner. Shampoos and conditioners have the same ingredients, the conditioner just does not have the lathering properties. So I will put some on my hair, let it sit, then wet it and massage my hair as if it were shampoo. i do that a couple of times, and my hair is clean, soft, and not stripped.
Thanks for the information. My hair was very brittle and hard and i recently cut like an inch and a half of my hair off and its very soft and manageable now.
(myjrpics) I had to google that product, it might be great on the hair...but I couldn't pronounce about 97% of the ingredients and one of their products contains parabens.
Sta Sof Fro is not all natural, but man does it do the job for moisture. I'm not joking. I don't have to remoisturize for a week after 1 week of use. It just depends on how nit picky you are about how natural your hair products have to be. I used to use it a lot because I have thick cotton textured hair and it was the only thing that worked. However, I got into the oils fad and stopped using it, but I may go back and just not care how natural it is.
Thanks for the feed back. I saw a 16 oz bottle of Sta Sof Fro today so I bought it. It was less than 4 dollars so if I dont care for It at least I know I didnt spend too much.
Where do you usually find that? I've looked for it in beauty stores close to where I live and I haven't found it. I've also looked in some Whole Food stores and still, nothing.
walmart and local pharmacy chains usually carry it in the ethnic hair section. Another great product is African Royale's BRX Braid Sheen Spray...No alcohol, just oils and herbs! Great Product!
Whats a good natural hair product that does is a good moisturizer and does not contain protein

I cannot keep my hand (or other people's) out of my head for some reason LOL I think i'm not moisturizing enough or using the wrong stuff, because it's starting to break alot. Just ordered some new products today. We'll see what happens. Great vid!

hi, what do u mean exactly by shampoos that are stripping?
ladikira86 3 years ago

So I will put some on my hair, let it sit, then wet it and massage my hair as if it were shampoo. i do that a couple of times, and my hair is clean, soft, and not stripped.

how can you tell when your natural hair has split ends. I can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks for the information. My hair was very brittle and hard and i recently cut like an inch and a half of my hair off and its very soft and manageable now.

Good advice. Thanks.
What do you think of the product Sta Sof Fro? Its an old school product thats still around so Im assuming its good for natural hair.

Excuse me. I didn't say after one week of use. I meant after 1 day of use. I can go the rest of the week without reapplying, my mistake.

Thanks for the feed back. I saw a 16 oz bottle of Sta Sof Fro today so I bought it. It was less than 4 dollars so if I dont care for It at least I know I didnt spend too much.

Stay so Fro is really good! It has been around for a very long time. I love how it moisturizes, feeds, and coats the hair.

Thanks! I found it at Walmart. They didn't used to have it there, but now they do, so I'm happy. :D

Protein conditioners drys my hair out terribly. It takes me a week to get it back right.
