Have you played more of Portal 2? And also, who do you think is the funniest character in the game? In my opinion, it's Wheatly, "I AM NOT A MORON!" LOL, those of you that have played, or watch a let's play of Portal 2 knows what I'm talking about.
@videogameguy77 FREAKIN' HACKERS! And I was gonna buy Myst on PSN for PSP too, and I almost feel like swearing but I can't. Now I gotta depend on a flea market that's going to be happening tomorrow at my school, hopefuly they have realMYST, if so, I WILL FREAK.OUT!
The reason Portal 2 starts so slow is because Valve did not want new players to be overwhelmed, although the option to skip that part would have been beneficial for those who have already played Portal, so I see both sides of the issue.
I'm sure where you heard that FFIV was good, it was a horrible failure, but it is a very nice CE! Arc Rise was one of my favorite RPGs from last year minus the crappy voice acting. One of the best battle systems I have ever played. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Anyway, keep up the great vids man!
I think that whereas I agree having an hour or so recap or Portal 1 redux in Portal 2 is annoying, I think it is good to have that for players who did not, or were unable to (ie age, being too young) to have played the first portal game, what would be nice is if you could put in a code from your copy of Portal into Portal 2 or it could read an old save file, know that you don't need that hour recap, and let you start after that point
It took you an hour to get through the "rehashed" puzzles? Oh well, just keep playing. It's a great game, very engaging puzzles. There is a little bit of a slump towards the end, but, granted I watched my friends play the game about 4 times, it ends really well, especially if you are a half-life/valve fan. Great video, Craig, as always.
I don't feel like Portal 2 holds your hand at all. It's nice to feel a sense of progression in a game; if it started off with end-game puzzles it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining or fun. The first Portal explains about using things like momentum to solve puzzles. There are some early Portal 2 puzzles that use the same idea of momentum but that is not explained to you. From the dilapidated test-chambers to GLaDOS waking up, it is assumed you've played the first and know what's going on.
I kinda agree about the hand holding in the first hour of Portal 2. But on the flip side, 2 of my friends who didnt play the original were happy with it. Personally, i would rather have seen Valve put the first Portal game on the disc. Move value, and new players can get eased into the mechanics. I mean, it's an insanely short game.
@Andy993G Well, to be fair FF14 has sold so poorly that these collectors editions have become bargain bin dwellers in certain game stores and are very easy pickings for collectors because of the huge drops in price. Take it from me, here in the UK for a short time the game was being sold in that collectors packaging for around 30 dollars new instead of the original price of 90. This was only about 2 weeks or less after the game was released here.
i rarely find anything at goodwill either if i do its usually a controller ,which a pristine xbox or n64 is at my local goodwill 9 times out of 10 for like $5 - $7
the usual thing i find in good will is board games ,
simpsons , dilbert , skip bo,pente,go for like $2-$5
Wow, what a pile of stuff, love all the commentary you're doing. But do you have a working 5200 controller? I hear they are complete garbage and trying to find a working one is tough.
Portal 2 doesn't necessarily start off with rehashing puzzles to "teach newcomers" it's more so to give you the idea that Aperature is no longer the same place it used to be. Trust me, even if you don't like the idea that the beginning of the game is simply doing puzzles, whether it be for Wheatley or GlaDos, when you progress further, it will be an entirely new experience worth checking out, especially if you enjoyed the first Portal. Besides, who can get mad about solving simple puzzles:p
Well, well, well, look who picked up Portal 2. You lied to me! But anyway, I can see how the rehashed levels from Portal can be at bit annoying. I personally loved it (even after beating the first game 6 times), but trust me around chapter 3-5 the story and gameplay REALLY picks up!
Really do agree about the recap in games, i felt like golden sun dark dawn spent forever going over the past and then every five seconds it's like "hey ur issacs son" "hey I new ur dad issac" actually put me off to the point where I just put it back on my shelf
i agree games should progress not take baby steps... its like developers are scared of making a NEW games, they must make it familiar or n00b friendly or else...
You need to get Mortal Kombat. In my opinion, it is a game with loads of charm and love of the original games. Portal 2 is a knock off of an already great game. I really think the first one is better as a stand alone title, as with every other game, unless it re-invents itself like Just Cause 2 or Saints Row 2. Awesome vid man.
I know how you feel about portal. Most of the beginning puzzles are just boring. It gets so much better when you do glados puzzles. OH the ending it is just epic.
Very jealous of the EU copy of 3rd Birthday, though. The coverart looks really great. Also, I love the coverart on the Atari games. They're so unique for the time in my opinion.
Overall a really nice haul, Craig. You'll have to let me know what you think of Nier once you put a little bit more time into it, because I've really been wanting to give it a shot. Nice additions to the 3DS collection as well. Are you planning on getting Dead or Alive: Dimensions? I'm not too stoked about it, but I'm curious to see how it'll end up playing.
Awesome pickups -- with Ghostbusters, the only good one besides the 2009 game is New Ghostbusters 2. It was released for the European NES, but it's like Gremlins 2 and Blaster Master top down sections. Definitely check that out.
I have wondered, what is your "actual" job? I don't think you've ever said.
