@SamusDrake "Easy" is just about the *last* word I'd use to describe the rather unforgiving strategy element in the game (which I've never been able to finish), but since there's not much actual depth to it I guess there must be some easily exploitable trick which virtually guarantees victory.
It took me about a week to figure out Dune. The one that makes it super-easy is figuring out how much spice to send to the Emperor...
50% more than what he asks for. You get lot longer until his next demand, and you still have a decent amount of spice.
With attacking Fortresses - keep motivation high by keeping in contact with troopes, and working towards Ecology. Definitely use Gurney Halleck to train them as well. Plant ecology under Harkonnen fortresses. Save before attacking!
@Demiath You probably missed something important. I almost finished it when I was like 9, barely knowing any english. Then I finished it very quickly when I was 17.
@turusan02 I'm probably stupid, then. Tried the game at different times during my life and got stuck as horribly every time. I will always associate Dune with arbitrary and brutal difficulty spikes.
@SilverMcdowell1992 Forget that, I just watched the rest. The dialouge is awful, but I can see that they'd want to keep people from being confused. Nevertheless, I find it funny how everything is explained like Paul fell on his head and lost his memory.
Even without, this is quite possible the greatest way of experiencing the DUNE universe. Every is so mesmerizingly well put together to form a wholly engrossing and believable world.
The music, the visuals and the story telling on display in this game are really quite unlike anything else in the games medium.
This game came with one of my first computers (might have been our first one). I was 8 when it came out. Never could beat it, god damn, to this day I wish I knew how to find/beat it.
@Solareffects Yes, you´re correct. In the movie, Duncan get killed when the Harkonnens attack. In the novel he dies when he defends Paul, Jessica and Doctor Kynes in a desert station. And in "Dune Messiah" he returns as a sort of a zombie, a so-called ghola.
@Solareffects@Solareffects Sorry to correct you: It is Gurney Halleck who is played by Picard-actor Patrick Stewart. (But in the novel Gurney isn´t bald, neither but has "wispy blond hair trailed across barren spots on his head".)
Duncan is played in the movie by Richard Jordan, Michael Yorks partner in "Logan´s Run".
This game is really addictive. I like the idea of discovering new sitches and recruiting fremen. Even though i play games like mass effect and DA:O now, i still get hook on the gameplay in dune and can play for hours
That brings up a lot of memories. I used to play that game on a Commodore Amiga 1200+ computer. It had 28.7 MHz CPU and if I'm not mistaken, 1 MB of RAM. Came pretty far in that game, but never finished it actually.
Sorry about that. The website in question has long since been shut down by its new owners so I lost all my high-res vids. Haven't bothered to remove the links because there are so many of them on my channel, but I'll at least take this one away right now...
I used to play this all the time when I was younger. Thanks for posting this video, it's very nostalgic. I wish I still had my copy of the game but the disk broke in half before I ever got to finish it.
Ah yes, I remember getting this game about a year ago, because someone I knew recommended it. It was quite interesting, I still play it from time to time.
Yes, this is the CD-ROM version which is slightly more difficult to find but well worth tracking down (legally or otherwise). The added voice acting is almost as good as the legendary soundtrack.
Great vid man! Lots of memories! I wish I knew what to do back then when I was fighting the bad guys and trying to meet quotas and training troops and gathering technologies and having a blast! too bad I never finished the game, I still had some of the songs hardwired into my head. (after about 2 years of playing) Good old times. Thanks again.
An extremely easy game, but so well designed that it stands the test of time.
The game is a bit like an old LucasArts adventure mixed with Total War.

I never liked the introduction text to this game. The rest of the game is fantastic though.

Are you serious? This game is almost as bad- maybe even worse- than the film.
It's so black and white "Blarg you are good they are evil!"
I loved the book, this is just disgraceful though....

Dune was loads of fun, in fact I still play it today (thanks Dosbox!). But it would have been even cooler if
1) The battles at Harkonnen fortresses were more interactive
2) Characters such as Dr. Yueh, Piter De Vries, and Shadout Mapes made appearances
3) If there were some locations from the novel other than sietches, villages and fortresses.
4) The Atriedes palace was attacked as in the movie and novel, and you had to defend it.
But hey, it's still one of my favorite games!
