Banks SHOULD lend out the money people put there in savings/money market accounts, but should keep adequate reserves on hand.

I also honestly don't think anything short of a full dollar collapse is going to help stir up the majority. In that case, I always wondered if such an event would lead to a great secession/ violent revolution or not. If it does, I'd imagine a domino effect of states and groups of states (possibly even parts of states) calling for independence and huge civil/ secession war.
I just hope that if it happens I'm either elsewhere in the world or already gone.

@95283525 You simply need a gold standard (like the ancient bank shown here) only with proper auditing and regulation from the government to prevent theft. It doesn't (and shouldn't) have to be government run. Furthermore there is no reason to not have competing currencies provided by different banks.
With the current system the US will always be in debt. It can shrink the debt by cutting spending and sending all your taxes to the FED (and bond owners like China).

Gold is only valuable because it's rare, and we envy rare but ultimately useless things. Gold, like money; Won't feed you, cloth you, shelter you or the like it can only convince someone else to provide that all for you.

If every thing was limitless there is no reason to trade. Clearly we are not in heaven and every one doesn't live in abundance. we gravitate towards things like gold not only because its elusive but gold has plenty of uses in electronics, medical, dental aero space, jewelry is just the most popular.
