This puppy has the same coloring as my wirehair dachsund puppy. However, the wirehairs are avid hunters, and I'm afraid the bunny would have been killed!
"They are hunters and they may kill other animals in your yard, including birds, squirrels, raccoons, possums, chipmunks, and rabbits. If you're squeamish about real-life natural events, don't get a dachshund or be prepared to always walk your dog on a leash....Dachshunds are friendly to adults and children that have manners, other dachshunds, even a few other dogs and maybe the family cat, but everything else is prey." -dachshundworld website "Typical Dachshunds"
@moearly I have dachshunds for years and years already. Together with bunnies, cats, chickens etc. I have them running free in the forest and they don't hunt at all. Simply because I never stimulated them. They grew up knowing they should leave other animals alone. And none of them ever killed another animal. That website is total bullshit. I had five dachsies AND Jack Russel terrier and I never had problems. It's just a matter of training.
@Saartje05 I'm glad to hear you've never had trouble with it. I've heard of a dachshund who could live peacefully with a bunny before. I don't know a lot about bunnies, but I still think the bunny would be scared while the dachshund "plays" with it. :/
@moearly Not at all. My bunny and my youngest dachs are even big friends. They search for eachother when they get the chance. Mind you, bunnies aren't that defenseless as most people think. They'll attack a dog if they need to. I always had bunnies, cats, dogs together. Never had problems. But I don't raise my dogs saying 'get the cat, get the cat' or 'what's that what''s that' . You can make any dog agressive doing that.
@shaner806 I have two dachsies and two bunnies in the house together. My dachsies don't bother them at all. Not even when they're being left alone. NONE of my dachsies or Jack Russels ever did.
That was too cute. I had a 2yr old mini lop rabbit when I got my Dachshund pup. I always let the bunny get the best of Angel when she was little. She learned to respect him as the Alpha animal. they lived in harmony for 10 years. Angel was sad when her little buddy died.
December 24,2006 at 8 o'clock in the morning, a young 14 year old boy by the name of Scott Jackson was found dead.Doctors couldn't come up with the cause of his death. His mother checked his email to see if she could figure out what happened.Turns out he was still signed into myspace. She found he had gone to sleep after he read and didn't repost a chain letter.if you don't repost this to 6 videos a girl with no face will kill you tonight. sorry don't wanna die
If your going to let your puppy and bunny play please NEVER leave them unattended and let bunny go back to his or her home if bunny is getting scared.
texaschilibowl-- I was thinkin the exact same thing about our fullgrown doxie: she wouldn't "play well" with any rabbit. She doesn't play well with anything furry other than Other Dogs.
This is so cute! My half Dachshund half Jack Russel Terrier dog, Brownie, sees a rabbit, she'll go running after it! I love Dachshunds! They are my favorite type of dog! :D
How mean. You shouldnt do that. The poor rabbit thinks it gonna get its neck broken by the dog and may be suffering shock. Its all well and good for the dog, who looks like he's having fun but that rabbit is fighting for its life. tut tut. Even though you wouldn't actually let the dog eat the rabbit, does the rabbit know that? not impressed. You should introduce them gradually. the poor poor wabbit
I think it can be pretty dangerous to let an adult dachshund near a rabbit. After all, they're hunting dogs. So, try your best to socialize him with the rabbit as a pup ^^'
@beccababy73 I used to have a rabbit that would tease my dog. when my dog was out on a chain, my bun would run up to him, just out of his reach and sit there for awhile, then run and hide. Then do it all over again. My dog would try his hardest to reach the bun, but never could. I miss my bun bun. :(
@beccababy73 I used to have two rabbits. One was aggressive almost to the point of homicidal. The other was paranoid and nervous, and if he was a human, he probably would have been diagnosed as clinically insane. I think these two quirks were related.
@brb941 I always had dachsies and rabbits together. They're so used to eachother they really don't get spooked anymore. One rabbit even was my dachs' best friend and when the rabbit died (he was poisoned) and I had to bury him my dachs got all upset and started searching all over the place.
@Chopinsnocturnes Just don't let them hunt. My dachsies are ok with rabbits and our chickens. They walk around free and the chickens don't even step aside when my dachsies pass.

Dachsunds were bred to hunt down those types of animals. Thats why the dog wants to mug that rabbit.

watch out, when your dog gets older it can bark and scare your rabbit to death.
Trust me, i've heard many stories of rabbits having heart attacks when a dog barks.
Regarding a puppy,it's probably alright.
